Avatar f tn Is the relief from long term Predisone worth the risks of being on it for so long?
Avatar n tn Posterior subcapsular cataracts can result from aging, steroid use, or diabetes. Long term use of steroids (especially topical eye drops or oral prednisone) can raise the eye pressure and cause glaucoma damage and cataracts.
Avatar n tn I can find plenty of information that warns against long term or widespread use of potent topical steroids, but I have yet to find any actual definition of long term or widespread use. I have several 15g tubes of Desoximetasone 0.25% Cream, but I am worried about possible absorption and systemic side effects since I saw that it is classified as a Class 2 or Potent topical steroid.
Avatar f tn On the other hand long term use causes a predisposition to malignancies and all kinds of infections.
Avatar n tn There should no long-term harm from a single use of prednisone, even at such a high dose. I do question why you are having a CT scan, because an MRI scan with dye contrast is less toxic (the different dye itself is different) and less dangerous), as well as being less dangerous from the standpoint of radiation exposure.
Avatar f tn The doctor said it may take years for my adrenal glands to return to normal. Do they always return to normal after long term prednisone use? How do they know they will? I would like to hear from those who have been treated with prednisone for several years ( 15 years and up) Have any of you weaned off and had trouble in the years following? Does it get better?
1154802 tn?1266485720 I have been prescribed prednisone to help keep my asthma under control twice in the past three months. I've noticed there are a lot of bad side effects (as there is with any drug I suppose) and I know most of them are from long-term use and ten days isn't really long term use, but they still worry me! I'm on a preventer (symbicort), two puffs morning and night. But I still find I'm using my Ventolin at least 5 times a day (bad, I know!!
2048234 tn?1330814100 They are not addictive and you do not get any withdrawals from them, short term use. But i think as somebody else said long term use over 6 months you do have to be careful coming off them without telling your doctor like any steroid.
Avatar n tn Felt exhausted after serious bout of bronchitis and long term use of Prednisone. Tested positive for hypothyroid and put on Synthroid 50 mcg daily. OK for two days. A little sick on the third day. Thought I would die on the fourth day. My stomach was so upset with a burning sensation. I was nauseous and I developed a bad headache with horrible dizziness. Do you think that I have been mis-diagnosed?

1024532 tn?1380058352 What is termed "morning stiffness" is extremely common in RA patients. That it is occurring in only one area of your body suggests that it could be the position you're sleeping in at night, or you need a mattress with better support for your back. How long have you been taking prednisone? Long-term use (or even repeated short "bursts" over a long period of time) can lead to bone thinning which often manifests itself first in microfractures of the spinal vertebrae.
Avatar n tn i've been on prednisone 80mg for almost 2 months for my asthma, my doctor hasn't mentioned calcium supplements but I do take a multivitamin on a daily basis.
Avatar f tn They certainly hear all the negative media coverage damning the prescription and use of long term opiates. If we influence or change one person's negative attitude towards chronic pain and its management than we are fighting the war against us! Yes the War against Us, Against Chronic Pain Patients. You should not be shamed or harassed into this position, "stop the mess and live in constant pain." Taking your husband to your next appt along with educating him may be beneficial.
Avatar m tn The only reason that I ask is that I've heard on of the long-term side effects on dxm use is being a bit lathargic. I'm that way now and the VA did an MRI of my brain and found that my adrenal glad had begun to shrink so, it wasn't producing enough of the thyroid hormone.....I can already tell I'm got some defects from the long term use in my cognitive abilities. I'm down to 18 pills day. 1 pill every two days. The morning w/draws have pretty much stopped.
