Avatar f tn It has been over a month now and I am still recovering. My knee never lost all the swelling and pain increases with even mild activity; sitting with knee bent 90 degrees and driving (even getting in and out of the car) are everyday challenges. I am now going through physical therapy and pray this works. I have been told several things such as cortisone flare, bursitis, broken blood vessels or damage to the tendon but no conformation on any of these.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the medhelp neurology forum. Thanks for writing in. Sciatica is pain resulting from irritation of sciatic nerve. it is typically felt from the low back to behind the thigh and radiating down below the knee. It is most commonly caused due to a herniated disc or adjacent bone, tumor, muscle irritating the nerve. treatment options include addressing the underlying cause for the symptoms, medications to relieve pain and inflammation and relax muscles, physical therapy.
Avatar f tn s not related to the knee pain, as I have had two previous surgeries on the knee. I already have had the preop physical. Surgery is schedules in two days. The rash is somewhat itchy-burny, and almost reminds me of prickly heat. Its now going down the back of my thighs. I have had the same thing happen twice in a matter of months. No change in soaps or detergents. Each time it happened, my family Dr. put me on prednisone and it cleared up somewhat. Seems odd.
1378884 tn?1315505845 I am just curious as to how Docs figure out which type of arthritis one has. I am also a hashimotos survivor and am concerned that it may be having an impact on my knees which have done things over the years that no one of my size should have done. It's mostly confined to my left knee. I have broken both knee caps in the past, (car accident and Karate Class) had a meniscus tear repaired, which made left knee much worse. Hands and feet are fine.
1797277 tn?1315628907 i have the same problem, in my lower back hip and knee, like a real painfull pain that i cant walk, im sorry im not much help, mines been going since i had growing pains but wasnt bad i thought it was just from doing sports but as ive gotten older its gotten more painfull and more serious to me.
Avatar f tn After the hip surgery the sciatic pain disappeared. My guess is that the hip pain was altering the way I walked, sat, stood, etc, which can easily lead to pain elsewhere in the body. If you've been on mtx alone in the past and it didn't work, try it again and combine it with one of the newer meds like Enbrel or Humira. I was on mtx alone for a long time and though it worked relatively well, I'd still get flares and need occasional prednisone.
Avatar n tn I mid August of 2008, I was in the middle of about a 30 minute walk and all at once I felt a sharp pain behind my right knee. I didn’t think too much of it and continued on. After a couple of minutes, my right foot started feeling a little numb. Again, I continued the rest of the way home and rested it when getting there. The numbness went away within the hour.
Avatar f tn I have been to alot of doctors and all of them say I have Arthritis. My rheumotologist was really funny. His comments were, if you are in pain SIT and when you feel good WALK. Actually that is what I do. I go in the pool 3X a week and stay at home the rest of the time. I am 73 years old and have had both knee's replaced. One knee still gives me pain and the dr says it's probably nerve damage and nothing can be done.
Avatar m tn I am 40 years old and moderate activity , The pain in the left knee is not severe but the pain in the right knee is . Actully pain in the left knee is almost gone .I can take 40 mg of indocin and the pain subsides but when it comes back its just as bad , I am trying to get into a orto again but its a waiting list over 2 months and this is really starting to affect me , Is it ok to keep taking the indocin like this till I can get someone to look at this ?
785373 tn?1236328403 Just a few weeks ago, i went to my first appointment at a pain clinic (after my primary care doc decided that my pain issues were too complicated for her, as I have a HIGH tolerance for pain meds and need them increased regularly to be effective.) When I shared with this new doc my explanation I was given, he rolled his eyes, and then said that he believed my pain was psychological!!!? What the heck?
4823849 tn?1373657829 Wow! A year of pain. Sounds like fun! So If I'm experiencing anything like your BF, then the pain is legit and I'm not crazy. This isn't "meh" pain - it's like I bend my knee and it feels like a nerve is being severed pain. I know these pills mess with your head so much, I'm sort of hoping it's more in my head and less in my joint. I guess I should probably tell the doctor how bad it is... I'm paranoid these days, you know? "What's wrong with me?
Avatar m tn At the age of 33, one day I was fine, healthy etc. Went to bed and the next morning woke up with excruciating pain deep inside my r/knee area. Couldn't get out of bed or walk. That was the start of my (disease)? Went to an orthopedist. Got cortisone injection, gave me anti-inflammatories, sent me home told me to rest. Pain never went away, but it subsided a bit. Pain flared up again after about a month, ortho referred me to rheumatologist. More anit-inflammatories for a while.
Avatar f tn Within two days i had hives and breathing problems so d/c the antibiotic, still continued having hives and breathing problems - allergist said it was a reaction to Prednisone. We did a VERY fast taper on Prednisone (40 mg -4 days) the fifth day I ballooned particularly the face and knee. A week later Went in for my maintenance dose allergy shot and had a systemic reaction to it immediately ( first time).
293157 tn?1285873439 I have often wondered if some of my shoulder, knee and hand pain might be from arthritis or bursitis. Maybe through all these other test, I will find out!! I can't answer the question about inflammation, just don't know the answer. Take care and let us know if the Prednisone works good for you.
Avatar n tn I was put on a course of prednisone. Soothed the pain at the higher doses then came back as I weened myself off the prednisone. (Also, I completely lost my appetite and lost 10 lbs.) I was put on another course of prednisone. Soothed the pain at the higher doses then came back as I weened myself off the prednisone. (This time I couldn't get enough food and gained back the weight.) Then I was referred to a physical therapist. They didn't know what to do for costochondritus.
Avatar f tn Please anyone out there any idea of what is going on with my mother, the doctor just tells her to take prednisone for the pain. However, I want to know the reason behind the pain and why does it seem is moving around?. Please any advice is greatly appreciated, let me know if I should ask the doctor for any additional tests to rule out other diseases.
Avatar f tn But around June 2022, I noticed that I started having some slight knee pain plus heel pain, I didn’t put much attention, thinking it was probably due to my heavy workouts. I would give myself about 3 days to rest and continued lifting weights twice a week. Fast forward to July 2022 I noticed a red lump on my thigh and had it checked out by my dr. who said it was a lipoma.
Avatar m tn What type of pain? (back knee etc?) If you could give a little more info it would be very helpful and we could guide you a bit better..
Avatar m tn It could be the knee is just very inflammed and a course of prednisone or similar steriod would reduce the pain and inflammation. It maybe that the meniscus requires additional surgical attention....or that this is not assocaited with your meniscus at all. That's why an MRI may be beneficial. Please let us know what you discover. I will be sure to watch for your next post so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Again I am sorry fot the tardiness of my response.

Avatar n tn Last day I had numbness in chin and prickly/itchy pins in various body part (along with ongoing back pain, swelling, hip and knee pain (one knee with mild effusion) and general hypertonicity). Doc thought may be MS. MRI showed 8mm atypical vague lesion in subcortical area of left frontalparietal lobe at midline. Spinal tap, slightly high Albumen, but tap no good said neuro since done after low dose steroid. 6 months later, no change in MRI.
Avatar m tn A few years ago..I had gotten to the point I was unable to walk...to the point of walkers and wheelchairs ( I'm only 25)..I was in the Hospital for 6 days..they found nothing. Had EMG's, Thigh Biopsy, Brain MRI's & even a brain CT. Finally a Dr decided to do a CPK test and my levels were over 5000. I was diagnoised with myopathy and sent to physical therapy, but before I even got knee deep into prednisone treatment...CPK was tested again and It was normal.
Avatar f tn I'm new here because I have been taking oxycodone due to knee surgery. I am taking 3--15 mg a day, that's what I thought but my husband corrected me on that because after my last surgery the dr. changed it to 30mg a day and told me to break it in half. Green or blue pills--I wasn't paying much attention becuase I was trying to get mobile again and off the crutches. I'm walking on my own and off all other medicine. The dr.
Avatar f tn When I was 36, I was told that I had DDD, Lumbar stenosis, & disc space narrowing, protrusion on S1 nerve root. I had my back fused in 2000 when I was 38 on the L5-S1. It relieved a lot of pain & only had issues a few times a year. Back in 08 starting having issues, went on prednisone, pain killers ect. This yr prednisone did not work like it did in past. I have spasms almost every morning, deep in lower back does not feel like muscle.
