Avatar f tn I am still Thankful though I received a kidney transplant a year later. Now the only problem is that I might not be able to take the medicine prescribed by doctors for Hepatitis C. I was told by a hepatologist that since I take prednisone (a steroid) and because I am already anemic that these things might cause blood cells count to be lowered even more. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I was diabetic since I was in 5th grade, but five years ago had a kidney;pancreas transplant. Since then I have been on three kinds of drugs for my transplant. Cellcept, Predizone, and Prograf are the drugs that I am taking. With these drugs along with having diabetes up until 5 years ago affect my chances of producing a child. I am also 32 years of age.
Avatar n tn Kidney transplants are a treatment option in extreme cases, and are available at a few veterinary facilities in the US. The College of Veterinary Medicine, in Davis, California has a top notch Kidney Transplant and pet dialysis facility. Long-term management involves monitoring kidney functions with blood and urine tests every three to six months. At home hydration can be monitored by pinching the skin on the back of your cat's neck. Hold it for five seconds, then release.
Avatar m tn 2010(Major Liver Transplant w/full Liver), I died three(3) times during the procedure. After relearning to do everything, swallow, talk, sit, stand, walk, and most every other normal thing a person does, I started to have major back pain. Had a MRI and the Doctors found a compression fracture in my spine. They fixed it and then a few weeks later I had to have another MRI and they found a second compression fracture.

Avatar m tn s kidneys started shutting down about a year ago due to what the doctors think is an allergy to ibuprofen. She was on the verge of needing a kidney transplant. The doctors put her on Prednisone, though, and now her kidney function is almost 100% again! It's all about treatment. Just thank God that we've got that! Best of luck you. I am sure you have a long life ahead of you.
Avatar n tn in most cases the barely functioning existing kidneys are not removed because this has been shown to increase the rates of surgical morbidities, the kidney is usually placed in a location different from the original kidney. The transplant surgery lasts about three hours. Living donor kidneys normally require 3-5 days to reach normal functioning levels Light activity at home is encouraged and movement of legs is important to prevent formation of blood clots.
Avatar m tn I am 26 year old. My kidney transplant 4 year complete but critinine 3.4. how to do high critinine normal range.

Avatar m tn but I assume it would be high due to muscle wasting I am 15 years post kidney transplant; creatnine runs about 2.5 with 25% kidney function currently. I am on rappamune (immunosuppresant) and very low dose prednisone. Any thoughts on what might be causing this and/or treatment would be helpful. At this point the neurologist can not provide details regarding if the condition will spread; will it become ALS; will it corect???? please help.
Avatar f tn They are now placing him on a prednisone gtt. 450mg of prednisone infused in one hour for three days on a row and today is his third day.
Avatar n tn I cannot speak for other transplant centers, but the Nebraska Medical Center has a solid organ transplant floor where every room is private. This floor consists of liver and kidney transplant recipients. The heart transplant recipients are on a different floor, and they have a private room, too. Since the person's immunosuppressant levels are significantly lower, due to the medications, private rooms is the standard for transplant recipients at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Avatar n tn You say you have Autoimmune Hep, Hep C, Fatty Liver Disease, Stage 4 Cirrhosis, and type 2 diabetes. This is a very unfortunate combination of issues. Autoimmune Hep, Hep C, Fatty Liver Disease all contributing to your liver disease. Hopefully your hepatologist by treating your hep C can slow the progression of your cirrhosis while trying to manage your other illness as well. "...
Avatar m tn My husband is 60 years old, 7 years post liver transplant for hep C. Hep C recurred, and the new liver suffered damage--stage 3 or 4. He went through a couple of years of hep c treatment, and has been virus undetectable for 2 years. When his liver failed 7 years ago, his kidneys failed, and never came back. He has been on dialysis since then. He has been in "inactive" status on the kidney list since 2007, and has been undergoing testing to clear him for kidney transplant.
Avatar n tn The reason I am asking is because it is pretty difficult to find information on this. Usually I find info for Chronic Kidney Disease or Polycystic Kidney Disease. I am just curious if it is possible to have FSGS and remain stable for the rest of your life? I was told initially when I got this that the time frame for kidney failure after diagnosis was usually 5-10 years. I have had this almost 10 years ago (diagnosed through a biopsy).
Avatar n tn org/cgi/content/abstract/2/3/563 Liver disease secondary to chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients. Evaluation of patients with chronic HCV infection is warranted to determine stage of disease and the need for HCV therapy.
Avatar f tn Why were you taking prednisone and what is the rationale for taking you off it? If you can get off it, that is wonderful. Steroids nearly did me in.
Avatar n tn I was on cellcept for 4 months, prednisone for 8 and only prograf after that. Ask your doctor why you are still taking cellcept. My hepatologist told me before my transplant that I would be on celllcept from 3-12 months. Too many doctors keep post tp patients on these meds for too long, in my opinion. Good luck and yes, quality of life is important.
Avatar n tn s not clear whether your Father had HCV before his kidney transplant or if he acquired it with his kidney transplant. I pasted an excerpt from a Medscape article which addresses your question but it appears not to definitively answer it. It suggests that acceptable liver histology (decent condition of the liver) pre-transplant bodes well for the liver. But then it seems to question this premise with reference to another study.
Avatar n tn How long has it been since your kidney transplant? Do you still take medications to prevent kidney rejection? One of your greatest concerns as a transplant recipient will be that your body's immune system will reject and attack the transplanted kidney. If not reversed, rejection will destroy the transplanted organ. Aside from rejection, complications of transplantation include infection, relapse, high cholesterol level, liver disease, and weakening of the bones.
Avatar f tn This may help slow the progression of the disease. You should be seeking treatment from a liver transplant center if you are not already. Even if you do not need a transplant you will receive the best treatment available. Any other doctor even though their intentions are good just isn't qualified enough to treat your cirrhosis. Preventing or slowing the progression is critical.
Avatar n tn I have COPD ---had Lung Volume reduction in 1996 . LAtely the desease seems to be coming back but I keep asking Doc about Phlegm stuck in my throat ( thought maybe a trip to ear nose throat man may help? ) making it hard to breathe . I'm interested in knowing if this Medral Dose Pak would help ?? Is it Steroid? Right now I'm taking 20 mg of prednisone to help with breathing .
Avatar f tn The other treatments are to repeatedly remove blood plasma and replace it with fluid or more plasma that doesnt have the damaging antibodies in it. In severe cases dialysis and possibly kidney transplant are neccesary. The outcome varies based on the amount of damage to the organs. Glomerulonephritis can be a complication of streptococcal infections, including strep throat, particularly in children ages 6 to 10. There may be a genetic relationship to susceptability as well.
1433307 tn?1300339642 No steriods!!!!They can make your VL go up .
398059 tn?1447945633 Dec. 11th we were able to do the paired donation. My wife received a kidney and I donated to boy in Minnesota. We are doing well and are still recovering. This was my fist surgery. My wife has had many, though it does not mean it was easy for her.
Avatar m tn I have been dianosed with with Hep C (9 years already) and have a kidney transplant for 23 years, they were not able to detect where the virus came from probably during blood transfusion. There is a way a can be treated for Hep C? My enzymes are elevated but stable.
