Avatar n tn So I was just doing some research for another post on post viral arthritis. It is a kind of arthritis that can set in after you have a virus or the flu. I read that it takes several weeks to months to resolve. I immediately thought of you. Ask your doctor about this type of arthritis and please let us know what you find out.
Avatar f tn This case suggests that interferon therapy may precipitate subclinical rheumatoid arthritis in an individual without pre-existing clinical arthritis. Avatar n tn And after many doctors he was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. A close cousin to rheumatoid arthritis. At first they thought it was "frozen shoulder syndrome" not. After the shoulders then the groin area pains and back began. It got so bad until they gave him methotrexate and steroid medication. Shoulder pains can come from many sources like your cervical area of spine, etc. So I would suggest ruling out some form of arthritis or spine issues to start. Good luck to you.
787406 tn?1339203183 It sounds like it. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as in other organs in the body. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses that occur when the body's tissues are mistakenly attacked by their own immune system.
Avatar f tn Some of the uses of prednisone include treating autoimmune disorders, skin diseases, disorders of the endocrine system, exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, respiratory diseases (such as acute asthma exacerbation) and rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisone has many different side effects associated with its use.
Avatar f tn Because of the long term side effects of these medications within the past 2 months I have been slowly decreasing the amount of these medications in hopes that something else could eventually be used to treat her rheumatoid arthritis. She is down to 2.5 mg of prednisone twice a week and 12.5 mg of azathioprine twice a week. Within the past 2-2 weeks I have noticed that she is losing hair above her hind legs and itching/scratching to the point where she has an open scrape above one leg.

Avatar f tn - I have been to phsical therapy, tried all of the arthritis meds, been on prednisone and the only thing that worked was the prednisone.
Avatar n tn Well, I have suspected I had some form of arthritis for years. It started in my lower back and I had several bad flares that put me in bed and no one believed me. I developed anxiety and panic attacks. Anyway, I managed with this back massage thing I bought for years until one day one of my fingers couldn't bend. From there my wrist on one hand has swollen up and fingers on my other hand. Now my feet hurt and shoulders and my upper back are all painful and inflamed.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if it could be some sort of autoimmune issue. I did have Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis which affected that finger, but have had no problems for years now. Anyone have anything similar or any ideas of what it may be?
Avatar f tn I have rheumatoid arthritis which is controlled by medication. I have developed a burning pain between my shoulder blades with shortness of breath. This symptom has gradually gotten worse over the past 6 months. I have had a cardiac cath which was clear & ruled out heart. I also have had thoracic x-rays, complete G.I. work-up. I was wondering if a M.R.I. would be beneficial. The pain is different than the pain from the arthritis.
483733 tn?1326798446 I am 46 and just found out I have Lupus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis. Right now my symptoms are fatigue, edema, intense itching, and muscle and tissue pain throughout my body. I have a few questions I am hoping I can get help with. 1. Have you had any benefits to changing your diet? I don't eat processed food and eat a pretty balanced diet. Is there anything I should add or avoid? 2. I am taking Plaquenil. Can I drink wine occasionally or do I need to cut it out?
3201003 tn?1345349318 Actually, these names are somewhat misnomers. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and adult onset rheumatoid arthritis differ in some characteristics but the names indicate strict similarity. Juvenile chronic arthritis is a misnomer since juvenile arthritis is not always chronic. Still's disease is a name which should be used for one very specific type of childhood arthritis. There are many links put in JRA into the search engine..and do see a specialist she can be helped ...
Avatar f tn Simple exercise while lying in bed or sitting in front of the TV -- try leg raises, bicep curls and walking in place. I've had rheumatoid arthritis for 11 years and lost 100 pounds with great results. Just walking around the block gave me great pain relief and removed all signs of depression. It took months just to get to the corner but it helped after concentration and prayer during the walk. Buy a walkman or mp3 player.
505094 tn?1240317431 For about 1 month I have had a fever of 99º-101º and my doc has just run a 3rd set of blood tests. My body feels sore and my sed rate and WBC rate is up. So far no virus or bacterial tests came back positive, including H1N1. My doc put me on steroids for a week and my fever and ON symptoms left for about 5 days, but returned and have not left. Antibiotics did nothing. My question is this, does anyone have fever with Optic Neuritis flare ups, or MS flare ups?
Avatar m tn From 3 to 4 days, when i wake up in the morning, i fill pain in center part of the chest and in back( in both side of spinal cord). I think it is muscular pain. But the strange is that when i get up from the bed, pain stops suddenly everyday. please help me.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
2043993 tn?1450875078 Hi, I am 23 years old and have been noticing some occasional stiffness in my hands, feet, knees, and back. My mother suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus and I know both are hereditary diseases. Is it possible to have rheumatoid arthritis at such a young age? and should I get tested?
Avatar n tn My father was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis shortly after WWII. He developed it shortly after being shipped back from England in a coma with a very high temperature. He had the usual symptoms of RA but it was not symetrical. It affected different joints on either side of the body. He died in 1965. About a year before he died, he developed unusual symptoms- loss of taste, areas of de-pigmentation etc.
6757907 tn?1385102265 Hey guys - my mom is 55 and has rheumatoid arthritis, and wants to apply for SSI (disability). She has terrible pains and her hands have become crippled. Do you think this will qualify her for it? She can barely lift up her arms; she's worked in care-giving and now it's impossible to do simple chores/duties.
Avatar n tn A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease, but further specific testing is required to assist in making a final diagnosis. ANA test results can be positive in people without any known autoimmune disease. While this is not common, the frequency of a false positive ANA result increases as people get older.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis since 2007. First the blood work showed RA factor 83. And last year the number were 95. I went to rheumatologist last year. After examining he said even the numbers are high i don't have any pain or swelling he cant give any medicine. Since i am not taking anything. And i don't have any pain or swelling. But i am worrying about the numbers. If anybody have any suggesstions, would be highly appreciated.
