Avatar n tn How long after I start taking prednisone for a gout attack should i feel marked relief in pain?
Avatar m tn Uric acid is now down to 4.6 from a high of 6.9 in Dec. HOWEVER Gout attacks have continued almost every 4-weeks for 4 months and I now have another attack in my right tow and 30-mg of prediizone isn't solving the issue. I haven't tried colchecine. What do you think of my situation.
Avatar f tn Hello I am in the middle of an acute gout attack for the last 36 hours. I have taken 3 500microgram Colchicine tablets 14 hours ago (2 to start then 1 an hour later) but have not seen any relief at all yet, in fact it feels worse. Should I take more colchicine or ibuprofen? I'm not taking any other medication or supplements but have had some apple cider vinegar drinks to see if it would help.
Avatar f tn Hi like you I use Allupurinol to reduce my gout level but last few months have had severe pain in hands shoulders and wrists now using morphine patches for pain relief they cant make their mind up whats wrong with me first its oesteoarthritis now inflamatory now having test for ms
543791 tn?1216381777 Had gout for more than 10 years now. Attack appears in either feet mostly in front before toes and sometimes on heels. Has travelled to leg and knee once as well. Sometimes appears in fingers and wrist too. It was only diagnosed in 2014 and tried to avoid Alopurinol but this last attack I decided to take so went to dr. He also gave colchecine (since endomethacine did not work at all when taken 2 years back). This worked exactly opposite. Made the pain 10 times worse.
107366 tn?1305680375 Anyway, the Allopurinol does not seem to be stopping the attacks. I have had gout twice in my knee in the past two months, several times in my ankles, and now in my wrists. I have Indocin for the inflammation, but all that seems to do is make my stomach upset. I also have Prednisone, but long term use of it causes a whole other set of problems. I'm looking for suggestions on anything else I might be able to do, or any other medication I can talk to my doctor about that might help.
Avatar n tn The doctor I currently have said it started from when I was Taking Prednisone for my Gout. I have since stopped taking Prednisone, and have a new Gout doctor.
Avatar m tn Things like asparagus, mushrooms, etc are high in purines and should be avoided since this will only encourage the gout. Purines are the thing to watch for in any foods you chose wrt gout. Good luck on your recovery.
Avatar f tn It, as a whole, appears to be successful in that the arrythmias appear to be gone, but I have ended up with persistent pericarditis. This had greatly impacted my life in that I am in a great deal of discomfort. I am on colchicine 0.6 BID and indocin 25 mg TID. This has at least taken the edge off the pain but it is still not at a satisfactory level for me. Any suggestions on where to go from here or what else I could try??
Avatar m tn WASHINGTON -- The FDA has approved pegloticase (Krystexxa) for treatment of gout in adults who are refractory to standard treatments. Pegloticase is an enzyme that boosts metabolism of uric acid, breaking it down into a harmless chemical that is excreted in urine. The FDA said the drug can be administered every two weeks as an intravenous infusion. The approval was based on results from two six-month long clinical trials that enrolled a total of 212 patients.
Avatar n tn I treated 3 times and my last ended in June 2004. I never had gout until May 2009. Too often we attribute every malady we have to HCV or treatment but it's more often that not wrong.
541382 tn?1213979801 I went to the doc 7/7/08, I have gout in left ankle (x-ray confirmed), also have a chest cold (but it is summertime). My new doc said my thyroid is swollen. This is the third time this year it has swollen up, but I was only put on Prednisolone by my ex-doctor (which is why she is no longer my current doc). So this new doc wants me to get an ultrasound on my thyroid to see why it's swollen. My grandmother has hypothyroidism & takes meds for it. I think I just have bad genetics.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms can be from many things...Have you been placed on prednisone? Have your kidney functions checked (looking for gout); Look to see what your white blood count is -particulary the neutrophils...(looking for autoimmune, leukemia, other infection...) Get checked for tuberculosis, hypercalcemia, and hyper/hyponatremia (too much or too little sodium)...I'll chew on this some more and get back to you...
Avatar n tn Doctors and scientists believe that the anthocyanins in the cherries is what caused the decrease in blood urates and what causes cherry juice gout relief. They also feel that consuming anthocyanins on a regular basis may help lower heart attack and stroke risk, and are even studying the benefits of cherry juice and how it may have direct applications to the treatment and prevention of cancer. You can buy tart cherry juice concentrate at any health food store.
517981 tn?1216782018 The other thing is my dr was very shocked, the report just came back that morning and she was looking for infection not gout but she said they normally see if in post menapausal woman, I am still pre menapausal. Go figure.
Avatar m tn 00am appointment (I was the first one of the day), I am also of the opinion that he had not reviewed my chart until the moment he entered the room and looked at the file in the computer. The bulk of his comments were in reference to my lack of regular visits for "health maintenance" in the past and only a brief review of the low purine diet and use of meds for the next episode.
444337 tn?1428073510 Two weeks on Harvoni and have had a low grade fever for a week. i've also had a brutal case of gout in both feet for about the same time for which I cannot take pain medication. don't know if the gout is causing the fever or the tx. currently bedridden and cannot walk at all. kidney doc said I can't take anything for the gout or fever and I'm in pure misery. only sleep a couple of hours a night.
186737 tn?1269884660 In 2001, I had positive rheumatoid factor, nodules, but low ESR. I always have low ESR regardless of how sick I was or what infections I had, etc. After first being seropositive I have since then been negative and my ESR is always like 1 or 2. I get tendonitis all the time and have during the whole time. MRI has shown the tendonitis, so it isn't in my head. MTX keeps it at bay. Prednisone does too, but makes my tendons weak. My first rheumatologist of 5 years said I had Seroneg RA.
Avatar f tn Went to the doc today due to swelling/puffiness in my fingers, palms, feet and soles of feet. There are also mild (not severe) aches of the hands, knuckles, feet. The knuckles are red and the soles/palms.There is swelling in my undereyes, but that may just be due to sinus congestion from getting over a cold recently. I also have what the doc says might be cysts on the knuckles.
Avatar n tn you should test your ASO and RA factor and Uric acid ok and you'll have your diagnosis
Avatar f tn They itch and are bright red. The only thing that seems to help is a steroid shot and prednisone pack. My face and ears will peel almost like a sunburn. Does this happen to anyone out there? If I sweat during the night I will get itchy. Gold Bond medicated powder helps tremendously. Put it on before you go to bed in areas that you sweat. Neck, chest and even on the insides of your elbows. It does help!
Avatar m tn Several weeks ago after my physical.. My blood test came in with Trigly at 244 (I ate something which I forgot) instead of < 150 Uric Acid at 8.7 on a 4-7.8 scale and A1C at 6 in a scale of < 5.7. I also taking allupurinol for my Gout (which rarely have problems) but stopped taking it due to sudden body itch all over. After 6 weeks I had stopped taking Allupurinol my body, arms, underarms are itchy and skin feels blotchy. Am I having this problem due to be a predibetic? What can I do?..
