Avatar m tn I just took 10mg of prednisone for my asthma Now i have bad pain in my legs and weakness above the knee and my feet are burning anyone else have this happen?
Avatar f tn m 29 weeks pregnant tomorrow ill be 30 weeks and yesterday I had an asthma attack the doctor gave me prednisone to take for 5 days once he let me go home.
Avatar n tn Wondering if prednizone has any effect on blood oxygen reading on my oximeter. The prednisone has miracuously once again helped my asthma condition, but I've noticed that my oximeter reading has dropoped about 4 points from approximately 97 to 93 since I started the prednizone treatment. Is there any connection or are the two completely unrelated?

If that is not the case, then attempts to control your asthma with (first) medium-high doses of an inhaled steroid. Persons exhibit varying degrees of sensitivity to oral doses of prednisone, so that is very possible, maybe even likely, that you will experience the side effects you have listed below.
Avatar m tn Hello, So I went to the doctor cause I thought I was getting pneumonia and the Doc had me do a PFT (which was low at 70 percent) and a blood O2 test (94 percent) and said that I had bronchitis and put me on some prednisone and a z-pack. After I finshed my meds I still felt the same. So I set up another appointment and right before I went in I started to feel better but my tests only showed I improved ten percent.
Avatar n tn There is the possibility that continued use of prednisone can cause overactive adrenal glands resulting in too much cortisol in the body (this is one of the body's natural steroids). Since steroids suppress the immune system, llike zodiacqueen has mentioned, chronic recurrent infections can occur. Other signs are increased drinking and urination, voracious appetite, hair loss, and enlarged belly.
Avatar m tn Anything that increases overall health will help asthma - exercise (once you get the exercise asthma under control - may involve taking a puff or two of ventolin before you start), eating healthy - limiting sugar, caffeine, alcohol, fatty foods and increasing vegetables, fruits, lean meat, healthy fats and whole grains. Staying hydrated with water is also very important for asthmatics. Identifying and eliminating your triggers are important - you said exercise or laughing/sneezing.
1580703 tn?1651904887 there may be anti-inflammatory compounds in azithromycin which could be a future drug with research my headaches are helped by prednisone and my circulation is better on prednisone. when I have asthma I feel pain at the temples and trouble thinking.
Avatar n tn I took a one time dose of 40 mg of prednisone along with albuterol this past weekend due to being in an asthma attack, and Iam still experiencing side effects from the prednisone. How long does a one time dose of prednisone stay in your system, and how long can the side effects last?

Avatar f tn i have done salt therapies in past , many kinds of therapies like halotherapy , silinetherapy , speleotherapy , they gave me great benefit for asthma , by passing 101 days in a salt cave reduces my asthma that I was feeling that I have new lungs , that was amazing !!!!
Avatar m tn He really needs to see another physician. There are a lot of "missing pieces" to this story. For example, "has he ever been on inhaled powdered steroids". Has he ever been on Foradil? Doe he have an electically operated albuterol inhaler? Does he use it? Has every effort been made to make sure he is an antigen free environment? The use of oral doses of prednisone alone to treat asthma was popular during the 1940's, but few modern physicians follow this practice.
Avatar f tn Fortunately, I was eventually able to get off the prednisone, but still need to go on it periodically for asthma, lupus and arthritis. I do notice a change in my memory status whenever I am on it, although definitely not as bad as when I was on the high doses for so long.
1580703 tn?1651904887 dear ,i am also asthamatic and taking prednisones from three years ,the does starts from 5 mg and now i am taking 50 mg pills for 15 days after every 6 week gap,it happens with asthama that your prednisone doeses will increase by time and your asthma will get worse but i think there is only the prednisones and nothing to treat asthma, because in severe asthma steoroids in puffers dosent work,i am telling u because u should think that u r not alone in your case hope you will get better soon
1125622 tn?1295420118 As a matter of fact you need to be on it longer then a week before a taper is even considered. Using prednisone for under a month will not result in long term side effects. However being on multiple prednisone treatments through out the year is additive and you could experience more serious side effects. Ideally for asthma you shouldn't require more then 1 or 2 prednisone (14 -16 days) treatments per year for asthma exacerbations.
Avatar f tn Yes I have asthma I was taking prednisone, my emergency inhaler, my daily inhaler, and nebulizer treatments. But when I got further along in my pregnancy the only thing im supposed to do regularly is use my inhalers and its important to stick to them if you have low oxygen or alot of attacks it can make you go into pre term labor.
451343 tn?1256250831 Awwww I am sorry your going through this and in some pain. I have been on prednisone a few times and a long time when I was younger, but still I don't remember much about it or any syptoms.
Avatar f tn The second possibility is, while your son may well have episodes of “asthmatic bronchitis” and multiple allergies, that he either does not have asthma or that he has asthma in conjunction with another respiratory disease and that the two combined are responsible for his marked respiratory impairment. This circumstance could account for his less than optimum relief with therapy for asthma.
Avatar f tn What is prednisone? What is it use for? What are all of the side afects you can have when you are on this medecation?
1154802 tn?1266485720 I have been prescribed prednisone to help keep my asthma under control twice in the past three months. I've noticed there are a lot of bad side effects (as there is with any drug I suppose) and I know most of them are from long-term use and ten days isn't really long term use, but they still worry me! I'm on a preventer (symbicort), two puffs morning and night. But I still find I'm using my Ventolin at least 5 times a day (bad, I know!!
Avatar n tn The extra oxygen going into the lungs, with this pranayam, will help your asthma and make the lungs better. Your feedback in 4 months or whenever will help others. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
1580703 tn?1651904887 re noticing an increase in your asthma symptoms. I sometimes need a round or two of prednisone to get my attacks under control when they're really bad. Let me know how you're doing.
Avatar n tn Short term ocasional use of prednisone in that dose should cause no problems whatsoever. You won't experience thinning of the bones on that protocol. Long term daily use of prednisone is another story entirely.
1580703 tn?1651904887 It relaxes and opens the air passages in the lungs. It is the caffeine that makes this work. In the olden days that what people gave their children with asthma. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I would be interested in learning if there are others with the combination of asthma and chronic bronchitis that are on Prednisone and what your dosage is. I attempt to take the minimum Prednisone necessary to keep the air passages open but I continue to worry about the trade-offs. Is it better to stay on high dosage and greater breathing comfort or "live on the dosage edge" (taking the minimum to breath) and suffer from the symptoms of asthma and chronic bronchitis.
