I can understand the antibiotic, but I can't understand the steroid. Kind of odd to mistake tonsillitis for an allergy. The bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotic, otherwise it should have worked by now. I don't know what to suggest that would be efficacious. If it were me I might try using an antiseptic mouthwash and gargling with it.

Hi, I was just put on prednisone for my extreme mono I have had for 5 months- I''m taking 16mg 3 times per day for 3 days then 2 times per day for 3 days, then I'm taking 10mg two times per day for two days then one time per day for two days. Will I have moon face or other side effects when taking this drug short term? I am nervous, I started tonight. I just want to feel better and like myself again.
After having a throat infection for 13 years (Lingual Tonsillitis which has irritated the hyoid bone), I found an ENT who diagnosed me and put me on a few medications to bring down the inflammation. I was put on Prednisone for 14 days, Augmentin and generic Prilosec/omeprazole 20mg. As of a week ago wed the inflammation was down 75% and I was feeling much better after being sick for so long.

However when i went to the doctor last week he suggested that when i saw the consultant at the hispital they should consider throat cancer, this worrys me as i am 18, however i did used to smoke heavily and only recently quit and i am a student so i do drink alot.
I'm a little confused, because if there's one thing any doctor should be able to diagnose is advanced tonsillitis. It makes you pretty sick, and it can feel a lot like mono. I had it once and at first it is hard to tell what's going on, but after a week it clearly showed as tonsillitis. Which is what makes me confused, as you've had it for awhile and so docs should have been able to diagnose it by now.
Tonsillectomy is advised if there is recurrent streptococcal tonsillitis, recurrent peritonsillar abscess and chronic tonsillitis. Recurrent tonsillitis is an indication for tonsillectomy, as the tonsils may harbor the infection which keeps flaring up, or they may develop new infections. Also, sometimes persistent enlargement of the tonsil can sometimes be due to a lymphoma. So, if it is not responding to max, medical treatment, then tonsillectomy is the option.
Yes you can still feel pain and some slight symptoms even after all seven days, the antibiotic continues to work for a day or so after antibiotics are finished. However if it continues for more than 48 hours after finishing the medicine you should go back to doctor....or if it gets worse.
The other thing is you may have a strain that is resistant to amoxicillin and may need to get a different antibiotic altogether.

t respond to sinus pills (or any pills, what are sinus pills by the way). You likely have or had a virus and what you do for a virus is comfort care. That means ibuprofen/acetaminophen for pain relief and inflammation relief, fluids, things like hot tea to sooth, gargle with salt water, those numbing products you spray or su ck on. It should run it's course.
Went to the dr in late November for strep throat and a sinus infection, tested negative for strep but I have cobblestone throat and my left tonsil is inflamed. My doctor said I have some pus behind It & I have a small hole on my tonsil as well. My throat does not hurt and I no longer have any symptoms. I have taken both azthromycin and doxycycline. My throat still looks the same. My doctor has said just to keep an eye on it. Should I just go ahead and go to an ENT?

About a week ago I found I was having difficulty swallowing, as I knew it would take a while before I could get in to see my regular doctor I went to a walk in clinic. The doctor there looked at my tonsils and told me I had tonsillitis (he also did a throat swab). He said he could see little while bumps on my tonsils and prescribed anti biotics.
And you could have oral thrush and be confusing it with tonsillitis. Go see your doctor and get checked for tonsillitis, and if you have tonsillitis (and if it is the bacterial kind and not the viral kind) when he or she gives you a prescription that will probably take care of both ends.
A different doctor prescribed me cefaclor which worked after using it for 1 day. When I finished the prescription, a day after i had a sore throat. The doctor prescribed me cefaclor again, and once again when I finished the prescription, the sore throat came right back. I went to the see the doctor again, and he believes I have an allergy, and told me to use chloraseptic spray. He also swabbed my throat for strept, which came back negative.
Thank you for your help Dr. =), I doubt it is an infection though because i've had this for about 4-5 months but the ENT did mention Chronic Tonsillitis what is it and how do I know if I have it?? What about hyperplastic tonsil as well??
Exactly 3 days later I started feeling like a flue. I think it could be Tonsillitis now but am quiet not sure. Its that 10 day and so far no fever or any other symptom besides weight loss and mild diarrhea. Is that a sign of ARS? Can it be Acute HIV?
ve routinely checked my throat and today there is a small white dot on my right tonsil. Am I getting tonsillitis? If so what home treatments can I use to cope with the painful swallowing?
