I took her back today and they gave her clindomycein and prednisone which she had last year for mono. He honestly said "I don't know what to do with you?" and walked out? SHe can't eat and she can't swallow and white spots are getting worse. WHat do I do next? Obviously not go back to the same pediatrician.
I can't comprehend any doctor treating you for strep throat if they have not tested you for it. If the diagnoses has been confirmed and you are not responding to the antibiotics you mights need something stronger. You should call your doctor's office and let them know how you are feeling. They would be able to call something else in for you or might want to do other tests to confirm what may be the problem. There are very resistant strains of Strep out there.
At the end of February I took a 10 day round of antibiotics to treat strep throat. On the last day of treatment I discovered a largish discoloured, reddish spot on my shoulder. I left it alone, within a couple of days, my one spot had went to a few spots. I tried to get into my doctor and was unable to for one week. Instead I went to a walk-in, they gave me ketocozonole 2% and a steroid 1%. Two weeks later, the spots are starting to lose the redness, just look a little white and dry now.
The doctor did a swab for strep as well and is having the results sent to the lying gp (what for I have no idea cause even if it was positive I would never hear about it now would I?) So that was that and now I guess I will have to just wait and see how long it takes to start feeling good again until the next time right? Hope everyone has a good weekend and stay well and happy!
Also went back to the doc yesterday, the Augmentin had not helped at all as of Tuesday and my uvula and throat were actually beginning to swell up. For some reason they absolutely will not give me a shot (I've always gotten a shot before and it usually cures it right up). They gave me prednisone for the swelling and some sample pain pills called Levacet. The pain pills are awesome but I just want the strep to go away, and it feels like its taking forever.
Finally I called again for another appt and they decided to put me on Solu Medrol for 4 days followed by 6 days of prednisone taper. I didn't have ANY improvement until the 6th day of Pred. I woke up and my legs didn't feel like collapsing, I could walk, even backwards, I was so happy I was back to my old self again! Then after only 4 - 5 days I slowly started getting weaker again, had a fever, ached all over, could barely walk again so I went to the Dr.
tridot test at 89 days result negative Cd4 count test result 1240 ECLIA 91 days result negative HIV PCR DNA 91 days result negative symptoms at 145 days diagnose with strep throat, high fever, diarrhea, body aches are this related to late seroconversion?? i heard it is related to one of the HIV symptoms. have any one converted after 4 months 91 days DNA pcr and antibody test can change why CDC is recommending 6 months 100% conclusive and 3 months 99.
I was on Prednisone for 9 months, 2 years ago for asthma. I am still not able to get rid of the moon face! I lost about 20 of the 70 lbs I gained right away and the rest is stuck. Since then, I've had pain in my back and feet. I've heard that Prednisone encourages arthritis. Anyone else heard this or have problems? For the past 6 months, I'm in constant pain and am now being told it might be Fibromyalgia. One good way to get rid of the pain . . . Prednisone!
Hi I often take prednisone in small doses (5-20mg short spurts) for allergic reactions of a systemic nature and lately Ive had to get cortisone shots for either allergy or tendon shoulder issues. My thyroid tested between 1-2 right where doc wants it but my hair is still slightly coming out down drain (more then normal) and I wonder what the cortisone shots and prednisone will do to my thyroid ? I mean will it tend to make me more hypo needing more synthroid or needing less?
After not having strep throat in many years (at least 8-10), I think I have it a 2nd time in 4 weeks. I have a low fever (99.5-101, down to 97 w Motrin) Tonsils swollen and covered in white patches Difficulty swallowing even water I had a splenectomy in 2011 for hereditary spherocytosis. The last strep infection did not respond to penicillin and within 24 hrs I was at ER w raging infection. It is a weekend. Should I try to wait til Monday, or call Dr?
Anyway the doctor said I had a bacterial infection and prescribed me Azithromycin (antibiotic) and prednisone (steroid) for the pain. It sounds similar except for the eyes. If it is bacterial it can be serious because it can get into your blood stream and turn into something even worse. (So says my doctor.) I'd get it checked out just to make sure.
From April 2009 to June 2009 I experienced recurrent pharyngitis with exudate three times, all of which responded to antibiotic treatment. Tests for strep and mono turned out to be negative. In August 2009 I developed a mild case of suspected bacterial pneumonia which responded well to Avelox. During this infection I had significant night sweats. In the beginning of October 2009 I again developed pharyngitis. It was ultimately determined that H.
It came back as soon as the prednisone was down to 1/day. 2weeks after that I got strep throat again. I was instructed to go to the ER after the nurse looked at my throat because of how swollen it was, she was afraid of an abscess. The ER nurse gave me a shot of steriods an rx for augmentin and a refrl to an ENT. The augmentin did not give me any relief and I went back 3 days later and was given the ZPack which worked enough for me to feel better.
Started last year, with strep throat. Long story short, kept getting strep, turned into chronic tonsillitis, which inevitably led to me having my tonsils taken out. Cut to the last six months. I have been having episodes where my the back of my throat starts to swell, i have trouble swallowing, I feel like I can't breath, and the glands under my chin are huge!
The doctor said she thinks is a viral infection and prescribe to me some antibiotics, prednisone, and an oral lidicaine for the pain. She made mention that my throat was very red and there was an area that looked like an ulcer. If it were just these conditions without the sore on my face I wouldn't think anything of it but things worries me. I have no had sexual interaction with anyone but my girlfriend. We have been in a monogamous relationship for 5 years.
I am 33 years old, and currently experiencing an allergic reaction to what my doctor said was bronchitis as I am writing this. Benadryl, prednisone, Sarna, the usual. I had always thought it was strep, but since my last few reactions occurred after a respiratory infection and strep came up negative, I realized that my body reacts this way to respiratory viruses especially when my symptoms are severe chest congestion and cough.
Now the last doc I saw wants me to have a biopsy. I have been feeling like there is something caught in my throat for the last couple days now. It's at the base of my throat, under my adam's apple, right in the dimple where my collar bone comes to a V. I can't feel anything externally at all. It's all inside my throat when I swallow. It gets scratchy at times but doesn't hurt and i have to clear my throat a lot, but that doesn't help.
I've been to the hospital and they ran tests and concluded that it wasn't from Strep or another infection. They prescribed me Prednisone and sent me home. I believe it is all due to my Acid Reflux, but I'm not sure. I was in the hospital three days ago, I had pressure in the Forehead region and was concerned with the headaches I was having. They did a Cat Scan and told me I had fluid on my left ear drum.
My surgeon is now working with the gastro and is setting up some motility tests for me. I am a teacher - imagine what I've had to go through for seven years with my throat going totally hoarse during lectures. I lay in bed at night and clear my throat for 1-2 hours before I can sleep. I've absolutely had it with this condition. If anyone finds any cure for this dispicable ailment, please let me know. I can't even share a room at conferences because my roommate would end up hating me.
swallowing problem/other throat/neck issues. Primary was going to refer me to a GI specialist for swallowing problem, but friends suggested an ENT with the other neck issues I have (left jaw swelling, jaw/ear pain). Would an ENT help identify if there is something structurally problematic w/ the nodule? OR, if Hashimoto's is the case, would getting treated for the antibody issue potentially clear up some of my other issues-swallowing, ear/jaw pain?
for the past 16 days I have had an extremely sore throat. it started off mild enough. dr put me on amoxil for 7 days. finished it up, by the time I finished it, my throat was worse. then i was prescribed biaxin xl for 10 days, today is day number 10 and the past 2 days i have felt like i'm swallowing razor blades (no exaggeration) when i swallow drink or eat, it's so painful. tylenol and naproxen are no longer working.
ENT said it was viral and prescribed the same prescription vala.... but for a duration of 4 days along with prednisone to help with the swelling. The ENT doc. didn't exactly give a direct answer on the lip sores/ulcers. The swelling has gone down since. The roof of my mouth remained sore/sensitive for 2 days. There was canker sores on my lower gum and upper palate, which healed in 2 days. The yellow/crusted portions where the blisters were are peeling away now.
He is now be managed on only four mgs of prednisone. No more Enbrel shots. About three weeks a go he started complaining of a sore throat. He was and still is experiencing a fever in the afternoon and late evning. He visited the dr. and was put on an antibiotic. Strep culture negative. after about another week he was no better. Went to the dr. again dr ordered ct scan and he was put on Z pak. ct scan showed no mass. enlarged and asymmetrical lymph nodes.
28th, she was tested for strep throat, and the flu, and both were neg. It was determined she had a virus. On Oct 31st she was still not getting better, she was started on Amoxicillin 875mg 2 pills 2x a day. Promethazine 25mg for upset stomach and Prednisone 5mg 6 day pack. She got worse and on Nov 2. She was tested for Mono it was neg. She was given a shot of Toridol( that is probably misspelled. Her headache and dizziness continued to get worse.
Anyways, about 2 days ago I woke up with a horrible sore throat. I only slept for 3 hours, and to the best of my knowledge I had no sore throat proir to going to bed. I had smoked earlier in the night using a vaporizer (something i rarely do) as well as a spliff. I examined my throat in the mirror (something I've never really done before) and noticed that the back of my throat had various sized fleshy bumps (by fleshy I mean the same color as a healthy throat).
After taking Azathioprine for 3 and 1/2 weeks, I came down with a virus of some sort (tested neg. for strep and mono). Sore throat, cough, runny nose, chills, etc. Day 2 into the 'virus' I developed true hives. Large, dark pink, raised itchy places all over my body. My doc (primary doctor, not my Hepatologist)put me on Prednisone to knock the hives out. That worked great.
I was placed on Amoxicillin 500mg and Prednisone for inflammation. Two days later my sore throat and fever had subsided but I continued to have the white patches on my throat for another 10 days or so as well as the back of the throat being somewhat red. By this time the guilt had taken full control over me and I could not eat, drink, sleep, etc. Eight days after the encounter I had a day or two of more frequent urination but never any burning.
This sounds dumb, but he told me to not just brush my teeth 3x a day Morning, Lunch, Before Bed -- but also gargle with Listerine in the back of my throat for a minimum of 30 seconds and as long as I can take it. I've always had good oral hygiene. Obviously now it's even better. He read a study linking bacteria in the mouth, especially at night, to frequent sinus infections. For whatever reason, I'm prone to sinus infections. I was super clean before.
