Anybody have success taking prednisone for sinus congestion and possible infection?
She told me she thought I might have COPD, and if things did not clear up she also gave me a prescription for Prednisone. I told her I do not want to take it, but she gave me the prescription anyhow in case I needed it. I am looking for some information myself as to what is it supposed to do for you.

I have been prescribed prednisone for a hearing loss issue today. Ive been und since July 2011. I have not yet taken my post tx vl test although all my blood work looks good. I was wondering if anybody has any info on this. I looked on past posts and found it all to be old and not real specific. Thanks ahead of time!!
I have had an ongoing sinus infection for over 5 years. Under the care of different doctors, I have been prescribed different antibiotics which have had limited success. The infection always returns once the prescription ended. My symptoms start with front and post nasal drip which is a reddish color, and sinus pressure.
It would be best to visit your doctor for proper evaluation and management for the sinus pain as well as the anxiety. I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
I have been on and off prednisone for over the last 3 months to due to sensitivity to dust and mold. I take either Allergra D or Zyrtec D normally, as well as Flonase and Singulair. My skin test were negative, as well as RAST. I have also had blood work and chest x-ray and CT of sinus. Everything normal. Out of concern of the side effects of prednisone, I have weaned off it(under doctor's supervison) and took last dosage 5 days ago.
HI, Thanks for the comments. Yes , I did call My Dr. and went in to see him. I do have Asthma for sure they repeated the breathing test on me and then with the nebulizer with some med in it. Some of my problem seems to be coming from my sinuses. Nothing seems to help to dry them up . The excessive mucus from my sinuses are agrevating my asthma from what the Dr. said. The ENT that I have seen said I am of the 1% that they can't help with getting rid of the mucus.
My daughter had a severe sinus infection with fluid/ear pressure buildup so painful, the doctor prescribed 20 mg of Prednisone, taken 3 times a day (60 mg) for 7 days, reduce to 2 for 2 days, then 1 for 1 day to keep from 'damaging her ear drum because the fluid buildup was so bad'. She's been taking it for 5 days and feel sick to her stomach, headaches - the only thing that has left is the pain in her ears. Is that an overdose what they gave her? Are these the side effects?
Could this be related to my WG or caused by prednisone? I took 40 mg for about 7 mos and have been above 10 mg for approx. for the other 16 mos. I just started fosamax 9/01. I tried physical therapy which helped the soreness but not the dizziness. My neurologist isn't familiar with WG so I would just like your opinion. Also, would I be limited in physical activities. Thank you.
I took prednisone and then later inhaled steroids for COPD. I developed high cortisol, anxiety and panic attacks. I quit the steroids and was treated for the adrenal problem (still not entirely solved). However, if the prednisone they are giving you is only short-term your adrenals might not be affected.
You really should be using a steroid nasal spray for you excessive mucous production for your sinuses. Antibiotics help acute sinusitis infections. I often do saline irrigations of my sinuses, that helps remove the excess mucous that is in the sinuses. Also gets rid of infected material. These irrigations should be done twice a day. I've also noticed that when you have excess lung mucous you will feel it rattling around deep in your lungs before it makes it's way up.
I am having surgery on thursday to clean out the sinus cavity...YUCK!! anyways...my concern is that they are wanting me to take a pred pak afterward to help keep the swelling down. I told the dr about the elevated cortisol levels and my concern with taking prednisone, but he said it would be no problem. Now, this is a ENT doc so I am doubting he even knows about elevated cortisol. Do any of you have any info you could pass along or websites that I could check into this?
I am so scared because I got really sick6 weeks after the risk and I was put on 3 day 40mg of prednisone. I went for and hiv test at 8 weeks from risk and it was neg I also went for another hiv test at 16 weeks also neg. 1. Can 3 days of 40mg of prednisone cause a false neg? 2. My 16 week hiv test was 7 weeks from my last prednisone pill is that enough time to have prednisone out of my system and have a reliable results. 3.
Having so many attacks would indicate to me that his medication isn't working to its best effects and I see no preventative medication on your list singulair is not a preventative medication and all the other drugs you listed are for sinus or for short term relief. his asthma is not under control for some reason it could be allergic reactions to carpets, dust mites, damp, dust, food allergies like milk , the medication itself anything!
HI...I AM ON PREDNISONE FOR AN MS FLARE UP. THIS IS ALL NEW TO ME. I AM INTO MY 6 DAY OF PRED DOSE AT 40 MG. BAMB A NASTY HEAD COLD. THE ISSUSE IS I CAN NOT GET THE MUCUS TO STOP FLOWING. I HAVE TO SIT UP AND FOWARD TO DRAIN. I HAVE AN IRRUGLAR HEAT BEAT AND CAN NOT TAKE MOST SINUS MEDS. CAN'T GAT A HOLD OF MY DOCOTR. AM I THINKING RIGHT? I AM ALL BALLLONED UP W/ FLUIDS AND COULD THIS THIS BE THE CAUSE OF THE EXTRA MUCUS? TEA AND STEAM HELPS UNTIL I STOP THEN THE MUCUS STATRS AGAIN.
I have taken prednisone on and off for years at the tapering dose you are discribing. I needed it dermatology issues. Since rashes are a possible sx, I discussed it with my hepatologist and she said that it would be ok to take that small short term dose on tx. Before HCV, it was my treatment of choice for my skin issues, but because it suppresses the immune system, I now consider it a treatment of last resort. You are still UND, so it seems there was no negative impact on your tx.
I have had MS for 30 years, been on Copaxone for 8 years and haven't had problems until this Spring. I had a horrible cold, sinus drainage, etc. that would not go away. Dr. gave me antibiotics, didn't help. Then he gave another antibiotic, felt a little better, but still not well. Had a fever for over a month too. Finally I saw a different Dr. and she sent me for a CAT scan that day, I had TOTAL opacification in my sinus.
I was on prednisone 30mg for three days with no taper for a sinus infection and laryngitis. A few days after stopping the prednisone, I had extreme anxiety lasting 24 hours. My heart rate would not slow and I had to her put on propranolol to lower my pulses. It's helping a little. Has anyone else heard if this happening after prednisone? Will it go away? I e never had panic before, just general anxiety without physical symptoms.
I went to the doctor 12 days ago was told I had bronchitis and asthma Got z pack and prednisone and prednisone shot. Not any better - now slight cough, headache, congestion, dizzy and flushed and at night wake up all sweaty.
The patient from the study I posted had been receiving intravenous methylprednisolone (125 mg) every two weeks for 6 months as well as intermittent prednisone for asthmatic episodes.
I have 10 mg Prednisone tabs with me but the directions are to take 40 mg for angioedema and gradually decrease dosage. I know that if I take this dosage I will be up all night but am really uncertain about how much I should take. Using Aveeno to sooth the welts with minimal effect. I empathize with anyone going through this experience. Any suggestions appreciated. Am thinking of thinking an immunologist since the allergist was absolutely no health.
Chronic bilateral maxillary and ethmoid sinus disease ... what is the typical course of treatment? I had a CT scan where this was diagnosed. Further it states: possible superimposed acute right maxillary sinusitis. Obstructed left osteomeatal complexes and possibly on the right as well. I finished a course of treatment with antibiotics and feel no improvement. Does this disease usually require surgery? I also have diminished lung capacity.
i have had a sinus problem that almost seems unprecedented this has gone on for about 15 years during this period i have seen a number of different doctors, been prescribed various medications etc and nothing has worked x-rays have come up negative i have learned to tolerate this condidtion for the most part however lately it has become worse and almost to the point of unbearable i am congested all the time 24/7 i have to continually spit, blow my nose etc i can only sleep for short periods of
twice a day, plus prednisone for 5 days twice a day . As previously mentioned, I have taken Avelox 400 mg. for 7 days and 8 days of Levaquin 250 mg. twice day. I also just saw a report yesterday about antibotics not really helpful for sinus infection. Have you read this? I believe it was small study that was done in Britain. If antibotics are now used to treat sinus infections, how will doctor treat the infections. Thanks so much.
I am on my third round of anti-biotics for a sinus infection and cannot get any relief. The first round was 14 days (cannot remember name) along with a one week supply of Prednisone. The infection seemed to get better, but came back very strong 3 days after my meds were finished. My head hurt so badly that I was crying and had to use an ice pack to help ease the pain. My doctor gave me Levaquin (10 days), another 7 day supply of Prednisone, and Lortab 10mg.
I've been constantly spitting and clearing my throat of phlegm or mucus (its clear/transparent and stickyish) for what seems to be 2 years now. I've finally had enough of this problem and finally went to some doctors. One looked inside my nose and looked at my throat for a few seconds said I had PND and suggested some nasal sprays and some flu medicine. Didn't really helped.
I will be having sinus surgery next Thursday, 10-21-10. This is because I have had repeated sinus infections that have not cleared up after 2 rounds of the strongest antibiotic (orally) they could give me. The ENT will go in and clean out everything in there, sounds gross. Due to these sinus problems going along with the hypothyroidism, I am wondering if it will do any good, or if it will just come back. Anyways....
