Avatar n tn my 9 year old dog has been on prednisone for 6 weeks for ITP and we are weaning her off now.
Avatar f tn He is currently on prednisone and theophylline. For the past couple of weeks, his belly has been very distended and hard to the touch. This is making his breathing more difficult. He is slightly overweight, so I have cut down his food intake. He drinks about the same amount of water that he always did, even thought the prednisone is supposed to increase his thirst. He is releiving himself regularly. His last checkup last month the vet told me that he had a good heart.
Avatar m tn I live in a rural area, and there are few vets around. My last Chihuahua developed Cushings Disease because of being on Prednisone for seizures waaaaay too long, when he should have just been on K Bromide. He got real sick, and they gave him fluids and drowned him. I am very skeptical about allowing this vet to treat my dog, but he is "the best" in the area. She has been on Ursodiol about 3 years. She is starting to have horrible breathing problems, and her nose is always running.
Avatar m tn Hello..... my 8 yr old dog has been diagnosed with IVDD. He is recovering with medicinal treatment. He has become very active as of late and is exibiting some anxiety that may be related to the prednisone that he is on. I would like to know if I can give him some Benadryl to quiet him a bit. He is currently taking 20 mg prednisone 2x daily, 100 mg tramadol 2x daily. Can he have Benadryl without signifigant side affects ? Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn The vet gave me this ickey brown stuff for my dogs wounds. Is there anyway to stop the dog from biting it's paws without medication? Or is it just something I'd have to watch.
Avatar n tn I took my sweet three-legged dog Jazz into the Vet Friday because I couldn't get rid of his fleas (frontline wasn't working) which was causing him to constantly to scratch and get red marks on his body (from the licking and biting himself). I took him to the vet friday and they put him on steroids (prednisone --5mg/1 tab 2x's a day) and a hydroxyzine (25mg) and omega 3's. Suddenly I came home today and he can't walk.
Avatar f tn I recently had one of my dogs treated for a disc problem in her neck. She was given a decreasing dose of Prednisone to take over 10 days which helped her considerably. Now, my other dog (same size and age) is showing symptoms of the same condition. I want to try the Pred on him but I don't have any left. Instead, I have a large bottle of Prednisolone. If I gave Ruby 40 mg's of PredNISONE, would I now give 40mg of PredNISOLONE? Or would the dose be different?
Avatar m tn My dog jumped up on the counter and got my other dogs Med bottle and ate all the pills and chewed the bottle before I saw you. Will this hurt her?mit was a very low dosage of prednisone about 7 days worth.
Avatar f tn I took my dog to the vet Tuesday to get his rabies shot & anal glan cleaned. After the vet I noticed my dog won't move so I called the vet & they said it was normal after the rabies shot. Later on that night I took him out on go potty but he couldn't move his legs & he wouldn't stand on his own. Yesterday he ate a little but he still couldn't stand up.
Avatar m tn He is on Denamarin ¼ tablet for small to mediun dogs, 1 Prednisone tablet 5mg in the morning, ½ 250mg Metronidazole pill in the morning, and ¼ Prilosec in the morning! At night he only gets ¼ Prilosec! He has been holding his own for about a year now. Yesterday he started the head tilt and really stiff walking. He pants and drinks lots of water. He was diagnosed with high liver enzymes. He does also have some mouth/teeth problems but can’t go under the anesthesia to get a dental!
Avatar m tn this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. Prednisolone does not cause or treat seizures, but it can create some severe symptoms and primaryt conditions that can lead to a dog having seizures.
Avatar n tn My 70 lb lab mix is on Prednisone and doxycycline because he tested positive for heartworms. He has had excessive thirst peeing and panting, increased respiratory rate and heart rate .I'm concerned about this but the vet says it's necessary in order to prepare him for the immiticide injections. Anyone have a similar situation?
Avatar n tn My dog is 118 pounds and has a skin condition that causes him to break out and have open wounds and now has caused lymph node swelling in groin and back leg. My vet has put him on prednisone 100 mg twice daily for 5 days and then 100mg daily and tapering down from there. This seems like a really high dosage and I'm concerned about giving such a high dose. He is already weakened from the illness and don't want to make him worse.
Avatar m tn Our dog Lilly has lymphoma and has been on prednisone for the last few months. She now has iatrogenic Cushing's and it is getting really bad. He can barely use her hind legs. We cut her Prednisone in half, but I have no ide if this will work or not. I can't make her suffer... Does anyone have any success in this type of situation?
Avatar m tn I agree that your dog probably has a disc issue. My dog was on both meds but for different problems. Prednisone for Epilepsy and rymidyl for the back problem. You really need the advise of a vet before you give both meds. Also the sooner a back condition is treated the better the outcome. My mom delayed care with her wiener dog and she needed surgery. She's now permanently paralyzed because she put off the surgery. Please let us know how you dog is.
Avatar n tn My boy has had this horrible cough for almost a year. It sounds terrible. Very deep and almost like he's choking and trying to clear his throat. He's had an echocardiogram, results showed minor leakage from both valves (normal for his age as per the vet). Vet said he's allergic to something or a lung problem. All xrays normal. He put him on Theophyline twice a day and then added prednisone once a day. My boy became very hyper and panting terribly. Vet said cut prednisone down.
Avatar f tn My dog was put on prednisone a week ago for low platelet count. She was diagnosed with thrombocyclopenia. They put her on two tablets of 20mg each, twice a day, and she ways 83 pounds. Today they decided to put her on another tablet so now we're up to 60mg twice a day. Her breathing seems more shallow, she's not panting, but not normal either. I am worried this is too much for her system to take. Does this seem right??
3116756 tn?1341922971 It sounds like your First week of the induction period is over, but you still need to be watchful...(Since your dog has too much prednisone/ cortisol ) It will take a while for the prednisone to get out of your dogs system, and the next dose of lysodren may do the trick. It may also reduce too much coritsol...in which case, you may end up having to give her another Prednisone....! So keep the Prednisone handy, and keep watchful for signs of lysodren overdose/ toxicity....
Avatar f tn When I spoke with my former vet on the telephone (after my husband took my dog to the ER... I couldn't wait anymore for her to return my call), she sounded sort of stunned.... like she had just realized that she made a huge mistake. I think I will write her a letter... it will be very polite and formal. I will also attach a copy of the amount my husband paid for the ER visit.
793908 tn?1294705109 Do you know why my dogs neurologist would prescribe the prednisone for my dog with Cushings and my vet would suggest treating the Cushings disease with Trylostane? He did mention if the tumor on his P Gland was big enough it could cause his breathing problem and seizures. They wanted to try the steroid for 10 days. What if this hurts him more than helps him. How are we supposed to know who to listen to? My husband said the specialist for sure.
Avatar m tn In January, my beloved dog of 17 years, Taylor, a American Eskimo mix, was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. This was done thru unusual results in his blood test and was not confirmed by ultra sound. At 17, it seemed worthless to confirm a diagnosis that nothing could really be done. He was growing very weak, had episodes of collapse, not knowing where he was, onset of blindness. His blood sugar was very low(40). The vet said to treat the symptoms and put him on Prednisone, 5 mg, twice a day.
Avatar m tn I use Atopica (Cyclosporine) for my Bulldog and it has been great for him.He has been on all kinds of other meds for his allergies in the past and the Atopica has been the best med of them all.He takes 100mg 2-3 times a week. When he first went on it ,He took it every day for a month then every other day for a month and now he is down to 2-3 a week. His skin was so raw before he went on it.
Avatar f tn Yes, I would like a recipe to make treats/biscuits out of his normal diet. Since birth, I've noticed he has had unusual problems with his digestive system and extreme allergy-type reactions. There has always been 'espisodes' enough for me to mention that 'something is severely wrong with my dog and I should take him to the vet-emergency!' He would throughout his short life, get up from rest as if something was intolerable and then pace!
