Also, its optimal dose is yet undecided. Pyridostigmine (Mestinon) is the usual first line treatment for MG. Mycophenolate mofetil should be used with caution in individuals who fail on azathioprine (Mycophenolate mofetil substitute) and corticosteroids.
Avatar m tn Our dog Lilly has lymphoma and has been on prednisone for the last few months. She now has iatrogenic Cushing's and it is getting really bad. He can barely use her hind legs. We cut her Prednisone in half, but I have no ide if this will work or not. I can't make her suffer... Does anyone have any success in this type of situation?
Avatar f tn s probably different for each pet, but I want to know what to look for and be able to prepare myself and my family for what's coming. Can anyone offer some insight or past experiences?
Avatar f tn do all people of stage 3 and 4 lymphoma experiences b symptoms i mean the other symptoms like fever weight loss itching, etc.??? how is the itching of caused by lymphoma?? i mean it comes for week and goes again and comes again or it is continues?? is the itch recurrent??
Avatar m tn t think of this because she has had PCP appointment and oncology visits AND her prednisone was doubled. Looks like full blown lymphoma. They have given her a drug called decadrol, if you know any thin about it please reply. I would appreciate it. Thanks again.
Avatar n tn Took her back for one week checkup and vet explained large breed dogs some times react negatively to Prednisone by getting lethargic and haivng muscle atrophy. Cut her Prednisone in half and wanted to start her on Chlorambucil 2mg. I looked up that drug when I got home and learned it's used to treat cancer - and needs to be handled with gloves. I'm hesitant to give my dog that chemo-like drug.
Avatar n tn I pointed out the little dots he did not say anything... He did prescribed prednisone which I will try. Maybe the rash is gone for good but Well today my rash decided that it was not going to appear! Just in time for my doc appointmet. I felt like a fool... Doctor didn't want to hear about the nodes then told me he could not see any rash of course...i felt really lame... :( like a con artist. He said usually people know what causes their rashes...
514349 tn?1272801633 My cat is on oral dose Prednisone for lymphoma. It's been a struggle every day to give it to him and the vet said it was only "buying some time". When this bottle i have is getting low, I want to discontinue it, but I know it cannot be stopped suddenly. What is the procedure for "weaning" him off it?
Avatar f tn I'm 21 years old. I've been sick for about 6 weeks now. My symptoms are extreme fatigue, weight loss (about 12 pounds), difficulty breathing, and bruising very easily. I just checked out of the hospital yesterday, where I was admitted for pneumonia and a high WBC count. When I checked out, I was told my WBC is still too high, and that I'll need to get it checked soon.
Avatar f tn They did an ultrasound on my inguinal wall and found a swollen lymph node. Now they are talking lymphoma again. I go for a second ultrasound the 24th to see if there is any change. Is it possible that this isnt lymphoma? Is it possible that if it is that I had lymphoma 2 years ago? What happened with the prednisone?
Avatar f tn I am taking him to an oncologist tomorrow for a more informed opinion where I am told we will have the option of doing a fine needle aspirate and/or biopsy to determine if it is lymphoma.
514349 tn?1272801633 Hildie was diabetic and we were treating her for that and the lymphoma was being masked, until we thought she had gone into remission. I hope you are able to give your kitty more good days than bad.
910930 tn?1242959206 Just try not to keep her on Prednisone for a long time as it can cause health problems like diabetes. I know this, because I have an IBD cat. IBD cats are usually treated with prednisone along with other things. As the IBD gets worse, the dosis increases (until the cat has to be put to sleep) So then you have a diabetic, IBD cat. But, after all, medication for a long time has its side effects, right?
483733 tn?1326798446 One of the scariest side effects for me was the fact that long term use of it can cause lymphoma. My doc said for every 1000 people on Imuran one person will get lymphoma, That is not a statistic that I want to be. Prednisone is also one of the worse drugs on the market that anyone could possibly take, but I hvae had to a few times. I would rather take the prednisone anyday then the Imuran. Currently, I am on Pentasa and it is working amazingly well.
Avatar f tn Hi, my fiancee and i have a cat with lymphoma. She started taking prednisone for a week and a half. Aas each day passed we noticed her breathing was a bit off. She began to breath much heavier to the point where she was breathing through her mouth. We took her to the emergency room where they ran a battery of tests. It turned out that she had existing heart disease (dilated cardiomyopathy).
Avatar m tn I have a 8 year old male (neutered) indoor only cat, diagnosed last month with lymphoma (confirmed through rads and outside lab cytology). He is on 1 ml of prednisone once a day and recieving vincristine injections, once a week, for the last 3 weeks. He has had intermittent vomiting, mainly from the pred, since we switched from liquid pred to pills, the vomiting has decreased. Rads show that the tumor, in the thoraic cavity, has shrunk significantly since beginning the vincristine.
660616 tn?1236450400 You are having symptoms for over a year now, the cause of which is still undetermined. Lymphoma can be one of the considerations. I think you can still wait for the public aid. If there is a symptom progression or worsening, you may opt to have the biopsy done as soon as possible. Take care.
Avatar f tn On February 3rd I had looked in the mirror and noticed that my right tonsil was larger than the left. I had zero pain or soreness but started checking for swollen glands in my neck and found 2. This drove me crazy for a week or so then I went to a Dr who referee me to an entire. In the time waiting to see the specialist I had 2 instances of spitting up several tiny stinky stones the last incident was about 2 weeks ago.
611067 tn?1458591483 I understand it can cause liver problems in cats and that it is not necessarily recommended for them. But, in my situation, my cat is dying of Lymphoma and so to keep her comfortable until the time is right, our vet recommended it and we chose to do this for her. Like I said, it works! She's no longer struggling with pain, jumping on furniture again, walking great and jumps up in bed with me at night again. Between that, the Prednisone and the Pro Gut, she is much better!
403156 tn?1290150018 I have posted on here in the past regarding my dog being diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma in August of '08. She underwent the CHOP protocol for 16 weeks and upon completion she only lasted in remission less than 3 months. Her condition deteriorated quite rapidly and we began treatment with lomustine and prednisone as a last resort. We realize this won't extend her life very long, but we are trying to make her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible.
Avatar f tn I too have started taking prednisone and azathioprine and have the same concerns you do. First off, how much weight did prednisone cause you to gain and how long did it take for you to notice the weight gain. How much were you taking? I am really concerned about that. Secondly, I too was told the azathioprine can cause certain types of cancer, I think the most common is lymphoma and some types of skin cancer but it says to watch for any unusually lumps, bumps and bruising you might have.
Avatar f tn I have had to take Prednisone many times for asthma and bronchitis. I am almost always given a dose pack for one or two weeks at a time. While I am taking the Prednisone, I almost always have pain in my right side under my rib cage. Sometimes I have the pain when I am not taking the steroids, but I can count on the pain when taking them.
1765114 tn?1313541596 After years of pushing that there was something wrong with my thyroid, my doc found thyroid cancer in 2011 and removed my thyroid. Ever since, my neck has been swollen off and on, sometimes it is very painful. Both ENT and endocrinologist said they couldn't find anything wrong (bear in mind the whole time up until my thyroid was removed and pathology was done, they couldn't find anything wrong with it either). It has gotten progressively worse.
