Hi I'm on prednisone. 5 mg is a small dose for a human but for a tiny cat it would be much different. Prednisone has helped many people but it does have side effects, espicially long term use. It causes mood changes, depression, erritability, anxiety. Humans need to take Calcium and vitamin D daily because it affects the bones. Some of the other side effects:, increased appetite, weight gain, water retension, stomach problems, muscle atrophy, difficulty sleeping.
Okay I have another question for you regarding my newly adopted cat Van Gogh. He's a love, and you all helped me with prior things, but since he is here now going on 2 weeks, His stool is still not always firm, and I caught him dragging his butt across the rug like the dogs do. Not all the time. I changed his food (gradually) to Royal Canin for sensitive stomachs and he seems to like it, but still likes the canned food.
Once a month I take hin in for a shot of predisone and antibiotics. at home he is on 1mg. of valiun and prednisone every other day. He gets reglan if he vomits a lot, and I am getting good at giving sub cutunaeous fluids. He is on science diet sensitive stomach and hates it. It is such a relief to find someone else struggling with this in a cat. I am going to get that supplement and talk to the vet about the food.
I do not know how it is for cats? It sounds like your cat was on prednisone for a very short time in comparison. i would not think about or dwell on the Cancer posibility. I mean there are photographs of animals like skeletons on the internet and then in fantastic condition. Do not give up hope and lets try everything!! We need patience and perserverance.
