I'm taking Prednisone for buzzing in the head/ear and it stops it. I was prescribed 1 20 mg tblet per day for 5 days. The awful buzzing stopped for 3 weeks after I used it for 5 days. Then it started again. So I went to ER and they said I had so much wax in my right ear that it was impacted and covering my ear drum so they cleaned it out. I had no buzzing for two days; also they prescribed the Prednisone again for 5 days. I took ONE AND REALIZED IT WORK IMMEDIATELY. The awful noise stopped.
I have been prescribed prednisone for a hearing loss issue today. Ive been und since July 2011. I have not yet taken my post tx vl test although all my blood work looks good. I was wondering if anybody has any info on this. I looked on past posts and found it all to be old and not real specific. Thanks ahead of time!!
has it caused depression? It just came on to me last sunday...never had problems before. I'm on prednisone now, for it....I've heard it can be caused by many different things...may go away...may be relieved if the cause is uncovered....may never go away...damn, it depresses me....I wouldn't want to live like this forever....
he put me on a 21 day taper of prednisone. The ringing still hasn't gone away! I am on day 10. ANyone know about this?
My hearing test showed I have substantial hearing loss in my left ear. The ENT has put me on Prednisone for 2 weeks in hopes of clearing this up. I have been on the Prednisone for 6 days now and my hearing condition just seems to be getting worse. The ringing and ear pressure is getting unbearable. It has not let up any! Currently I am on Lyrica, Restoril, and Voltaren gel and now Prednisone. I am now more concerned about my hearing than my cervical pain.
I had considered the medicatuons for the tinnitus but it wouldn't makes sense for the ear popping, pressure and pain and for my throat issues. I have almost come to belive that GERD aggravated by infection caused this. However, I'm back on the PPI, I'm drinking lots of water and can't seem to kick it. I've taked a couple of courses of antibiotics and an antiviral medication. I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks.
I was on Prednisone for 9 months, 2 years ago for asthma. I am still not able to get rid of the moon face! I lost about 20 of the 70 lbs I gained right away and the rest is stuck. Since then, I've had pain in my back and feet. I've heard that Prednisone encourages arthritis. Anyone else heard this or have problems? For the past 6 months, I'm in constant pain and am now being told it might be Fibromyalgia. One good way to get rid of the pain . . . Prednisone!
I have had horrible buzzing and ringing in my ears for about 6 months now. Every single day it feels like I have a flourecent bulb or a balace that is out in my head. It is not as bad in the morning, but starts off after lunch time. Its HORRIBLE. I thought it was from taking thyroid medication, but I am off of it now so its from something else. I have had every single test known to mankind. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this ??
i went back and said i have fungal infection. he stuffed my ear with lotrisone cream and gave Rx for prednisone to take for 3 days.i think the antibiotic create a moisture environment for the fungus to grow. i hope this method of stuffing my ear with this cream for two days will get rid of it and not cause any damage to my hearing.
Try local honey for ear popping- I have had chronic sinusitis for 4 years this month. I have also had awful allergies for 8 years. I never used to have a problem with my ears until I became very sick in Aug of 2008. I have had popping and crackling in both ears, but mostly my right ear since. I hear it every time I swallow and every time I open my mouth. It is, to say the least, very annoying. My dr said I had blood in my right ear due to my allergies.
Thank you for writing about your autoimmune disease of the inner ear. This diagnosis has been mentioned to me as I have "issues" going on with my right ear (I am deaf in the left). What were/are your symptoms of AIED? Was there a test to diagnosis?
constant nasal drip in the back of my throat every time I swallow 24/7, light headaches on my left side of my head every once and while, spinning / dizziness or light headedness sensation (lightly feel the fainting symptoms), can’t focus, if I close my eyes tightly sometimes my right ear pops a little and lastly very rarely but happens a ringing in either ear that quickly goes away. I don’t have a congested or draining nose (all clear), only back of my throat drainage.
I just stepped down from 20 mg 2x day to once a day, with the prednisone, and all the problems- which had gotten better- returned. I have the ringing in my right ear, right side of head feels full, face below jawbone is tender, throat is sore and I feel somewhat dizzy and just generally it's difficult to carry on today. I have a CAT scan scheduled in 10 days because he wanted me better for it. I called the ENT and they have me coming back in in 5 days(!) to be rechecked... I need relief.
The next day all of a sudden after a regular anxiety attack my left ear started to feel numb, lost complete hearing, intense fullness with a sort of guitar flanger like ringing and swooshing. My right ear could only hear certain pitches, when a plane would go by it would sound as if I was listening to it with headphones, and thats all my ear would be able to hear. This was the case for a few days but started to get better, with hearing starting to come back.
I am from Ireland and have had problems with my ear as far back as I can remember. For years my right ear has been getting blocked on and off and will clear itself for a few weeks/months - never fully, and then out of nowhere it will be blocked again. Symptoms include; 1. Fullness in the ear 2. Crackling noise that sounds like your ear is blocked 3. Reduced hearing 4. Constant popping 5. Swallowing of fluid down the back of the throat 6. Tinnitus (comes and goes) 7.
Struggled with the initial diagnosis and now I have had a mystery ear problem with my left ear for about 6 years. Help!
I have tried the steriod sprays, the M drug with D and decongestant that you have to sign for and the sinus rinse. My ent gave me prednisone which upsets my stomach and can't take that. I never had anything like this until our weather here in Virginia dropped drastically and blasted my sinuses. Don't know how many boxes of Kleenex I have used. The ENT says that they can draw the fluid out of your middle ear and put tubes in - appreciate any suggestions..........
My daughter had swimmers ear 3 yrs. ago, then followed with an ear infection. We treated her with antibiotics and the ear infection was gone. However, since then every 2 months 'TOO' the day she gets vertigo right when she wakes up in the morning-sensitive to light, vomitting, dizzy etc. This lasts a couple hours then will go away until she goes to sleep again.
I was on the prescription Reactine and Flonaise, but for some reason the ear and nasal swelling occurred anyway. I dislike the Reactine because it makes me retain water (10lbs) and makes me extremely drowsy because the prescription form doesn't come in non drowsy, and the regular form was no longer strong enough for me.
The next day, I jumped on the trampoline again, and while on it, my ear was getting clogged and there was ringing and buzzing. When I got off, I was extremely dizzy for a few hours. That went away and I never experienced the dizziness again. A week later, I went to the doctor and there was no wax, but my ear drum looked "dull". My hearing was normal after a couple of weeks, but my ear kept feeling as though there was fluid in it, and I could feel/hear my pulse in my ear.
Took it for about a day and a half and it really did nothing because by Friday afternoon I had a tremendous ear ache in right ear. The sore throat was gone but in return I felt like I was underwater. By Friday night I was in bed with mega pain I haven't felt in a long time. Finally as the pain increased, so did this constant "swooshing" in both ears, obviously fluid, and after a few hours the levy broke and the fluid started to drain from both ears.
When I went to the doc a couple weeks ago for the Prednisone, he told me that anxiety can make the inner ear pressure worsen, so If the inner ear pressure is causing the brain to produce anxiety, and the anxiety makes the inner ear pressure worsen, then how will I ever win this battle?? I have tried Dramamine, hasn't helped. Yes, I've heard that a mixture of local honey with cinnamon (one tsp. 3/day) is a good antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral solution.
3 weeks later, lost it again, this time paired with terrible stabbing pain in my left ear. Ent is confused with no answers, except, prednisone taper again, which again is working. Here is the thing: even though my big nodules were benign, there was a tiny one, 2mm, that was papillary carcinoma.
My left ear started bothering me Sept. 1, 10 - feeling of fullness and loud white noise (the noise you hear when the tv goes off the air) and the onset of a feeling of hang over ... dizziness in the head. Went to doc - was diagnosed with BPVV (Vertigo) put on meclizine, nose spray and sudafed. Nothing helped. Dizziness got worse. While on business in FL - went to ER for CAT scan - nothing found. Followed up with ENT in FL ... did hearing test - left ear was bad - right ear was ok.
i have started, as of 2 months ago to do your breathing suggestions for my ear problem. i have had this for over 2 years now, which started with a cold and then dizziness. after countless doctors none could help. i started by doing the breathing in one nostril and out the other then in that one and out the other. (sorry don't remember the actual name of the practise.) i originally was only doing that one once a day, after having misread your recommendations.
Here are my symptoms... Right ear pain Right ear fullness/ringing Pain behind right eye spot headaches on right side grinding teeth at night stiff neck - going into my shoulders I had an MRI/MRA back in Oct and all it showed was chronic sinusitis which I am being treated for by my ENT however he knows the pain is not coming from my ear. I am worried. Could this be an aneursym? I know a tumor or something like that would have showed on MRI.
For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
I'm taking a diuretic for the fluid for 6 mo. then we'll go from there. The ringing went away temporarily on the first day, but is back and my hearing has fluctuated several times so we'll see, but it is a relief to know that the mri was normal ! Good luck and I am so sorry about my tinnitus misstatement.
can't think of any specific event that caused this fuzzy distortion in my LEFT ear. so weird!! everyone's affected ear is the left one...odd. for me, high frequencies really trigger it. sometimes i'll go quite a while without experiencing it. sometimes i can kind of control (with popping or manipulating it with my finger). i lost my insurance about a year & a half after it started, so i've never had it checked out. a bit relieved to har i'm not the only one, but....i want it to go away...
He did say there was fluid behind my ear which makes sense for the antibiotic. But the audiologist I saw (same doctors office I took my test 5 minutes prior to seeing the ENT) said it was probably viral. So it seems contradictory. I think I am going to continue the steroid and antbiotic medication and try to see another ENT as quickly as I can. One more question. In terms of something like this, what exactly would a MRI accomplish? What are they looking for?
