I've been on 3-10 mg of steroids (prednisone is how it is called here) for the last five months because I continue to have mild to severe attacks that need me to have a portable oxygen tank a nebulizer and of course my broncodilator inhaler wherever I go.
This dosage has worked well for me, varying it depending on my symptoms.
My dog jumped up on the counter and got my other dogs Med bottle and ate all the pills and chewed the bottle before I saw you. Will this hurt her?mit was a very low dosage of prednisone about 7 days worth.
My vet has put him on prednisone 100 mg twice daily for 5 days and then 100mg daily and tapering down from there. This seems like a really high dosage and I'm concerned about giving such a high dose. He is already weakened from the illness and don't want to make him worse. He has had multiple tests and a biopsy and they still don't know what the cause is. thanks for your help.
Has anyone had to take prednisone during their pregnancy? If so did it harm your baby in anyway?
You really should be tested for allergies, if you haven't already. GERD can be silent and produce a cough as it's only symptom. If another cause can't be found then an increase in inhalers is a good idea. How many puffs/day of your Symbicort do you use? You can use safely up to 8 puffs/day. I have done it for a long time, but my doctor switched me over to pulmicort 400ug x 4 puffs/day and Oxeze 12ug x 3 puffs/day.
How can you ask IF prednisone is safe for a cat than go on to state you can give advice on dosages.....
I have primary progressive MS and have had foot drop which has gotten worse the last few weeks. My Nuero Dr. gave me a prescription for Prednisone, 7, 20mg tabs a day for 3 days without any weening off before stopping.
Isn't 140 mg at once too much? I am also scared of all the side effects.
My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
I took the medicines couple of weeks longer than I should have. Also, is taking 10 mg of the prednisone for 7 weeks considered taking it long term and high dosage and could it cause permanent side effects like the ones I have? Or are these related to the hypothyroid? I thought all the symptoms would go away with time but it doesn't get any better. Could these be a symptoms of the cushing syndrom?

The body becomes dependent on Prednisone and is unable to synthesize its own cortisol. It takes awhile for the body to adjust. During this period, the bleeding might come back a bit. Your doctor should be able to tell you whether or not you need to be concerned.

I recently got poison ivy, which I normally get once a year really bad and get the little punch pouch of of prednisone (6-5-4-3..). My medical insurance changed and now I need to get generic everything. So when I got the bottle I expected it to look different put the directions was very different. Often I can keep my patients comfortable on prednisone if I start to reduce the dosage to find the minimum effective level. Prednisone is not like antibiotics in such that they do not need to be given at a minimum dosage...resistance is not a concern. Atopic dermatitis can be proven by a veterinary dermatologist though usually a regular vet can "tentatively" diagnose it. Shampooing once a week with a medicated shampoo helps remove allergens from the skin.
He told me something got in my lungs and literally ate my lungs, I now have about 45% left. He prescribed a high dosage of prednisone 70mg daily for 2 weeks then slowly began tapering it down. This made a huge difference but, once the prednisone wore off the rash back full force. I returned to my doctor and was prescribed Prednisone for longer and a higher yet decreasing dosage over 7 days. Sure enough, the rash dried out and healed, itching subsided until about 2 days after finishing the course of Predisone. Now, im itching again and the rash is returning! it's like if I'm off Prednisone it will come back but, i cant keep taking prednisone over and over. What's going on?
