While both steroids are in the same class of steroids, cortiscosteroids, the dosage in Advair is DRASTICALLY smaller than what you would get taking oral corticosteroids. Advair's steroid is some thing like 100 mcg that is a a 1/10,000TH of a gram, where as taking oral steroids you usuallt take at leat 10 mg. The oral dose is roughly 100 times larger than the inhaled does.

a dermatologist prescribed prednisone starting july and tapered off on november 2007 and they disappeared for a time but would show up once in a while (even when i was on prednisone). the doctor would increase my dosage of prednisone (and thus lengthened the tapering off process), that's why i ended up taking it for about 5 months. however, i still have them.

At first it was seasonal, only in winter months.Now, it is severe and every day. Prednisone works, however, I have to be on high doses and there are other serious side effects. I would be interested in learning if there are others with the combination of asthma and chronic bronchitis that are on Prednisone and what your dosage is. I attempt to take the minimum Prednisone necessary to keep the air passages open but I continue to worry about the trade-offs. Is it better to stay on high dosage and greater breathing comfort or "live on the dosage edge" (taking the minimum to breath) and suffer from the symptoms of asthma and chronic bronchitis.

hi just a question about steroid use. I dont have MS but was recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis after having a brain biopsy 3 weeks ago. Several months ago I was on IVIG which really didn't help my symptoms, so now I'm going to try a trial of prednisone. My neurologist wants to start me on 60mg then slowly taper my dosage. So you've had much more of this than you'd thought. The side effects are pretty similar for both substances though, and Prenisone is a big component of IVSM.
Did you have bad side effects with the IV? If so, you won't necessarily have them with the oral Pred, given the much lower dosage.
It was so severe that I did a two week course of Prednisone. When I went off the Prednisone, the rash came back immediately in all the same places so the Dr. prescribed another 3 week higher dosage (he had thought it was poison ivy initially but I disagreed wholeheartedly but still went along with the treatment). After the 3 week course, as I predicted, the rashes came back right away. I now have an armpit rash and this arm rash.
My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time.
