Avatar f tn I'm starting my prednisone today and I'm really scared - could anyone who has taken this medication for this condition give me any advice? Did it seem to help? How long were you one the prednisone? I'm already obese and am really worried about the weight gain from prednisone. I'm hoping that I won't be on this medication long.
Avatar f tn How can prevent getting moon face from taking prednisone and weight gain. Even im not eating and exercising 2 hrs everyday, it seems like nothing is working for me. Pls help!!!
444932 tn?1273980797 My adopted daughter was on prednisone for lupus for 5 years and YES it makes you puffy and probable weight gain, but have heart when she stopped the moon face went away, BUT she was on a LOT of prednisone. Keep being strong and hopefully you can get off the pred soon.
Avatar f tn The doctor quadrupled my dose of Lialda, and again more weight gain around my stomach and nowhere else. This is very frustrating. I have always been a very thin person and do not like looking like I am pregnant when I am not! Has anyone else had this issue with Lialda. How about knee pain? Itching? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have had chronic Sinusitis for 2 years now, tried and did everything. My Dr. just started me on a 6 day course of Prednisone...I was wondering if the swelling/weight gain associated with it happens after long term use or if it will happen to me in the next few days? It is my Anniversary this weekend and I'd like to be healthy of couse, so I started taking it, however, I'd like to look attractive as well. If anyone knows how Prednisone affects one, please let me know! Thank you!
428506 tn?1296557399 I have been on prednisone and methotrexate in the past, which both having side effects of weight gain. The other yucky side effects is insomnia and feeling hungry. The hunger pangs will come eventually, but if you are careful with your diet, and it sounds like you are going to be diligent on this front, then don't worry about the weight as it will come off after you discontinue the drugs. The weight does not drop off over night, but it will come down.
Avatar n tn I cant lose any weight that i gained from the prednisone. I try to eat a healthy diet of protein, and vegetables every day and usually starve everyday... I had my thyroid checked and it was at .42 Could everything that I have gone through thrown my body way out of kilter could there be another cause for not being able to lose the weight it just adds to my depression... I am 60 years old.
Avatar f tn t really been able to loose the weight from the prednison, and I will gain then maintain that weight then then gain a little more and maintain. I have been noticing not only from the last past year i have been having food sensitivities my face with blow up from eating things with hight salt content like cereal, ice cream, or even dressings on salads. So if anyone is having any of these similar problems and has some idea about how to handle it, that would be great.
975514 tn?1324997938 I have seen several people I know that were on high doses of prednisone for a life threatening illness. Weight gain, water retention, and moon face are the side effects. Hmmm, sounds just like hypo? 20 some years ago, I got kenalog (corticosteroid) shots for hay fever. I gained 30 stinking pounds in 60 days! My Dr. said he had never heard of this. Maybe I was just hungry? My little sis gets kenalog shots all the time and she is 99 lbs. It doesn't effect her weight at all.
1523893 tn?1301579774 I took my three days worth of pills hoping I would see a difference, but have yet to feel any better. In fact I am worse and I am wondering if I should see a physician about my symtoms. Weight gain, no energy, facial swelling, horrible fog, painful skin on my neck and shoulders. I feel like I am drunk. I drove to work this morning but quite frankly I am feeling so out of it I am not thinking that was such a good idea. Is this normal when coming off of such a high dose?
Avatar n tn And i have been on 60 mgs of prednisone for a really really long time.... And i gained 20-30 pounds. and it hurts me and bothers me.. and i am now on 15 mgs. and i have only lost 5-10 pounds.. and people keep on saying i well lose 10 more pounds when i am completly off of prednisone.. is this true?? I am very active.. i am active on a high level for 2 hours 5 days a week... and i am still seeing the weight in my stomach were prednisone has taken over. my moon face is semi-gone..
Avatar n tn Cooked ground beef with cooked rice and a tsp. of veg. oil is easily digestable and MAY help w/ weight gain.....I am familiar w/said condition and Prednisone seems to be the drug of choice...ask your vet.
82818 tn?1206989814 I had this with the Dachund I had, they gain a lot of weight on Prednisone ,and he drank copious amounts of water, I may have been unlucky but he got diabetes and the Vet said the prednisone certainly hadnt helped, have you ever thought of googling in case there is any Natural remedy out there, I will also check around I go to a great Health food store they may have Animal stuff. .
Avatar n tn Weight gain he discussed is caused by long term use of prednisone. A few lose weight while others gain. That is why it gives people "moon face." GERD and allergies have nothing to do with the actual weight. Some can drop the weight while others it throws out of whack and doctors give the same suck it up response you did. I spent years trying to drop weight with my conditions. Nothing worked well because of unaddressed health issues. Recently I started dropping weight without trying.
Avatar m tn Not only will you gain weight, you will destroy your immune system and weaken your bones. And in my case it caused adrenal fatigue with consequent anxiety and panic attacks. The is not an uncommon side effect and a case of the cure being worse than the illness. I switched over to natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics and am happier and healthier for it and there are no side effects. How bad is your COPD? What stage are you in?
Avatar m tn I'm 52 years old and have been dealing with periods of rapid weight gain (anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks) for nearly 4 years. My worst are 16 pounds in 3.5 days and 12 pounds in 2 days. Stress probably is a factor, although cortisol tests have been coming back normal. I'm spending thousands of dollars and so much time with doctors and tests; finding a doctor with an open mind and didn't believe that I was "cheating on the side" took a lot of time and money.
Avatar f tn I have lost weight but I exercise as much as I can and watch what I eat. I simply do not want extra weight as I get more disabled. This is easier said than done. Also I drink only water and herbal tea unless it is a Special occasions. I only eat goat cheese, lean meat, live almost gluten free, eat tons of vegetables, some fruit, grains, and stay clear of all the processed food. I adopted this diet since I got MS.
Avatar f tn I am taking it now! Only on it for a week. How long will you be on it?
Avatar m tn In three days? That's fluid not fat.
Avatar n tn Clinical tests to diagnose my unexplained weight loss of 26 pounds over a 9 month period have ruled out a variety of cancers and standard panel blood tests were normal except rheumatoid arthritis factor - is there a relationship between RA factor and weight loss and if so, what are the possible mechanism(s).
Avatar f tn If you take steroids this is your problem. My son has craniopharyngioma and the steroids (Prednisone and Cortef) made him gain a lot of weight and he can not loose it. It is not you it is the medicine doing this to you and my heart bleed for you.
Avatar n tn I am very concerned about this sudden increase in weight, as well as irritated by my steady weight gain since being prescribed Prednisone, and was wondering if this might have a physical root in the thyroid.
8221281 tn?1397570972 I am a Lupus patient who recently treated with Prednisone on top of being on a medication that is commonly associated with weight gain. One causes both causes hunger and the Prednisone causes fluid retention and changes the way insulin is used and the adrenal glands function. I'm off of it now but gained 20 pounds in less than two weeks. I have a 50 degree cervical spine curve, a 28 degree thoracic curve and an additional lumbar curve.
Avatar n tn He knows I will gain weight and retain water, but he says it will all be temporary. That is hard to hear and absorb when you know how it will affect your life, even if it is only for 8 weeks. It will be very hard to get that weight back off. I have been feeling pretty badly for 2 months, and this last weeks has been truly horrible with severe joint pain and fever. Today is the first day I have felt semi-normal in a long time. I hope you are doing okay. It is not easy news to receive.
Avatar m tn I was put on Prednisone due to my severe allergies, and I had a problem with weight gain as well, not severe, but enough for me to notice. But as the poster before me said, I changed my diet to especially my sodium intake and I'm now back to my normal weight. So, there is hope!
Avatar n tn This is only for a couple of days until her RA is back under control. This med is very potent and comes with a long list of side effects. The two most common are weight gain (puffyness) and lower resistance to infections. The aloe vera juice is a great idea too.
