Avatar f tn Started my dose of 20 mg three times a day. The next day went in to do labs and my tsh is .25.
158939 tn?1274915197 I know that long-term use of prednisone can block thyroid absorption but would a 6-day course of prednisone (METHYLPREDNISOLONE 4MG DOSPAK 21) block absorption enough to bump a TSH from 0.11 to 22.06 even while taking the required thyroid supplements???? The last time I *had* to get my TSH this high (for RAI) it took me 4 weeks and the low iodine diet to get my TSH this high (and I still had remaining thyroid tissue). BTW - my Free T3 1.8 (down from 3.9 three months ago) and my Free T4 .
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
1379583 tn?1294260171 One doctor said it was because of the prednisone and it will come back. Other doctor said it means all ANA is now gone and will not come back. (even Hashimoto's) Can someone clear me up on this? I am so confused..... Thanks.
Avatar m tn So I started taking prednisone again. Prednisone is very effective at suppressing the symptom (the pain) but taking the supplement seems counter-act that. Now I don't know what to do. Is the symptom after taking the supplement the so called healing crisis or could it be anything in the supplement that is causing the pain? Was it a mistake that I took prednisone after taking the supplement? Should I continue taking the supplement? I am desparate looking for an answer.
Avatar n tn She has lost 6 pounds in 4 weeks yet has no other symptoms. Does anyone know if there is a relationship between prednisone and thyroid? She tested negative for thyroid antibodies which is what the drs. first thought. Any input would be welcome.
Avatar f tn I went to an Endo who asked for thyroid panel and ultrasound on my neck. The thyroid panel revealed that I had subclinical hypo as my TSH was 13 with normal free T3 and free T4. The ultrasound revealed that the two lobes of my thyroid are enlarged. My thyroid anti bodies came back negative. Therefore,I was diagnosed with subcute Thyroiditis. My Endo was surprised as he said that fever is expected to happen in the hyperthyroid phase of subcute Thyroiditis.
3061629 tn?1405458990 I took prednisone 60mg plus 2 steroid dose packs plus a short acting and long acting steroid injection in the past 6 weeks. I have been off all steroids x 3 weeks and am suffering from weakness, tremors, shaking inside and out, feelings of anxiety, shortness of breath, muscle cramps in my legs and feet and extreme lethargy. I'm thinking this must be an adrenal issue. Has anyone had these symptoms after prednisone? I am so anxious and shaky from mid morning until late afternoon.
Avatar m tn Ever since 2007 that I have been having the thyroid issues and took the prednisone and PROPYLTHIOURACIL my left side of face is swollen - cheek and undereye bag. I am also growing a lot of coarse hair on my chin and my cholesterol - triglycerides are high. I gained some weight and have a hair loss. I wanted to find if taking the prednisone and propylthiouracil could be cause of all these? I took the medicines couple of weeks longer than I should have.
Avatar f tn About a year and a half ago, I had a severe asthma episode and coschondrits for the first time. I was put on a 2 week coarse of Prednisone along with ibuprofen. By the end I had developed an issue swallowing pills. Even my small thyroid ones felt like they got stuck. Then it progressed to coughing up small hard bits of food, severe reflux, etc. After too much testing, the problem mostly resolved except for lingering occasional esophageal spasms and the thought that some was just hypersesivity.
Avatar m tn Inadequate levels of D and ferritin also affect metabolism of thyroid hormone. You need to get those tested and supplement as necessary to get D to a level of 55-60, B12 to the very upper end of its range, and ferritin to 60 minimum for women.
Avatar f tn I took my daughter to the er for strepthroat and when the doctor was nearly done with her I told him my throat had been a little sore he looked and said its a little red but I had no other symptoms but was going to treat me as if I had it as well we both rec predisnol and 2 antibiotics and a presc for the z pac. We both left d hosp got mmeds and took the 2.
1129232 tn?1360800358 Kris I was on prednisone before but was very careful to always stop it before ovulation would occure because it can cause birth defects though the chances are low especially in doses under 20mg. I would for sure talk to your dr because most meds you have to wean off of and pred can be harmful to your heart if you stop suddenly. Short burst pred packs are ok.
Avatar f tn been on high does of Prednisone and toxic levels of thyophille and have been find on them I have in the last 10 years have had a up and down reading on my thyroid. now my iron is going down. Had a transfusion and now is again goind down. I am at my end. I cant do daily functions and even bbe a good mom to my 13 year old... Just want some suggestions.
1297586 tn?1274105947 This sounds like an ENT problem and not from thyroid. If you were put on prednisolone, then you have inflammation? I don't understand why they would be giving you B12 shots for hearing loss though.
3204124 tn?1349746274 Why were you on prednisone? General health and other medical conditions can also affect thyroid hormone levels. Furthermore, you were increased from 100 to 125, a pretty hefty increase. So, you had a number of things going on there that alone or in combination could have affected your levels significantly.
Avatar m tn It most certainly cannot regrow hair if you have thyroid and adrenal malfunctions. I used prednisone and inhaled steroids and for COPD, It not only resulted in hair loss, but CAUSED me to have an adrenal problem. I got off that junk and now rely on natural anti-inflammatories.
Avatar f tn I somehow missed the IGg4 -related disease, probably because it was only part of the title and not mentioned in the post again. Nonetheless, if you were on any steroid treatment for longer than recommended, it would have easily compromised your adrenals and your thyroid (the thyroid might have already been an IGg4 targeted & affected gland/organ). This would definitely explain adrenal and thyroid related issues. Please post details about your IGg4 treatment.
Avatar m tn If you were truly hypo (and you would have had to have blood tests for that), rather than just some similar to the oxycodene side effects (see wikipedia), and you had thyroid medication and the Prednisone, then there is a good chance your hair will come back, after your hypo levels stabilised. I think what has happened in your case, is that your pain relief medication, Oxycodone has had some issues in side effects very similar to being hypo.
Avatar n tn There is no such thing as 20% prednisone. Prednisone is prescribed in mg.'s. That's probably what you meant. It is unusual to prescribe hydrocodone for this problem. There are many missing pieces to this story, including your lab results.
Avatar f tn I am concerned that my eye disease will get worse with this treatment but do not want to take prednisone for the related health issues that are associated with a steriod drug treatment. My question is how frequently does the eye disease worsen during the RAI treatment.
Avatar f tn First let's clarify a few things... You said your TSH is extremely low at 11 --- that's not low; it's actually considerably higher than normal, indicating hypothyroidism (under active thyroid), since TSH is counter intuitive. TSH is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormones, so it increases when thyroid hormones are too low and decreases when thyroid hormones are too high.
Avatar f tn Finally, my doctor recommended me to an allergist. The allergist had me taper off the prednisone and put me on 100mg Allegra in the morning and 10mg Zyrtec at night. She tested me for every allergy. I came back to being allergic to nothing. We also did a blood tests for my thyroid, cancer, graves disease, and various other diseases. My thyroid levels came back normal but my auto antibodies came back high, over 400.
Avatar n tn i have antithyroid antibodies - mine are not too high (they were in the 100s but since being on synthroid and cutting out gluten etc, they have gotten much lower and one of them is in the normal range now) Anyway - I just did IVF (after almost 2 years of trying to conceive a 2nd child) and was put on prednisone about 2 weeks prior to transfer and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I'm still on the prednisone (dr wants me on until 12 weeks).
Avatar n tn Also, be aware that prednisone, and other steroids deplete your body of potassium, Vitamin C, B6, and zinc. You may need to supplement these things. If you can afford it, work with a good nutritionist. This was extremely helpful with my son. Definitely let your doctor know how you are feeling asap.
