Avatar n tn I am 47 years old and have had asthma for 20 years Recently I had a viral infection (possibly H1N1) and experienced shortness of breath and rapid heart resting near 110. My doctor had me do a stress and echocardiagram which indicated nothing was wrong and that I was in good shape. We determined that taking Mucinex expectorant was contributing to the tachycardia.
19471740 tn?1478312837 Yes, prednisone can cause both tachycardia and sweats such as you describe. *However,* I am going to post a warning here: Temporal Arteritis, also called Giant Cell Arteritis, occurs *only* in older people, generally those over 50. This is not a joke: http://www.rheumatology.
Avatar m tn My regular cardiologist thinks that the prednisone COULD have caused it, my otther doctor doesnt think so. What are the chances it was the prednisone? Im really worried its ARVD and its killing me inside, this ruined my life, i dont leave my bed, not even to shower, and it ***** being really worried and paranoid about dying all day everyday.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed amiodarone January 2009 and in July almost died from this. I am 67 years old and up to now in good health. I'm currently on prednisone suffer from extreme shortness of breath and dont have the energy to even wash the car. My cardiologist never did any follow up on this drug even to this day he has not contacted me. I have a tentative appointment with a new cardiologist hopefully soon, and also with a respirology specialist some time this month, with catscan etc.
Avatar f tn My resting heart rate is 106 and rises to 114 when speaking. My PCP put me on a 9 day prednisone taper (starting at 60mg) and is hoping that the tachycardia will subside when I am feeling better. My PCP also told me to rest as much as possible. My PCP did not seem really worried, but the wait and see what happens makes me worry.
Avatar m tn Which I have never felt anything like it. I remember a day and a half before that i was given 60 mg of PREDNISONE at a hospital for an allergic reaction. It has a half life of 20-36 hours. So im hoping the medicine caused it. I had a similar episode 2 weeks before that, where i was given prednisone 60 mg, the next day i had extremely fast heart and palpitations, i wasnt wearing a monitor so i dont know what it was exactly. Its been 3 weeks and i havent gotten anything since. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn is trying to overlap the prednisone until the methotrexate kicks in. Tachycardia persists and is relieved with Metoprolol 50mg 2 x day. I have palpitations and skipped beats. I'm very tired, fatigued. I have not been able to work since September of last year. CT Scan shows evidence that my pericardium is thickened but I am not constrictive at this point.
Avatar f tn At the time, it was misdiagnosed as some type of odd reaction to prednisone and my adrenals. I just recently had a second episode And was admitted overnight to the hospital. I passed out at work and then they discovered the heart rate in the 150's. It was officially diagnosed with a suspected onset after a sinus infection. I was told not to be too concerned about it, to drink more water, eat more salt, and started on Metoprolol 25mg twice a day.
446896 tn?1237802742 This is my first time taking Prednisone and I have had a TERRIBLE experience on this drug! I usually have anxiety, but the last 14 days I have had unbelievable restlessness, panic, insomnia, severe heart palpitations/tachycardia, face swelling, etc. I have spoken to my nurse and two pharmacists who say that these are indeed side effects of prednisone, and that they should get better once I stop the medication.
Avatar m tn You would have to ingest oral steroids, such as prednisone, in sufficient quantities for an extended time period to affect your immune system. I would not worry about getting the swine flu because of your inhalers. However, if you get bad asthma exacerbations from viruses, then I recommend that you get the swine flu shot. I understand that this particular flu tends to go deep into your lungs and having asthma on top of that puts you at high risk of complications.
Avatar m tn One night on december 27 i had an allergic and went to the ER, where they gave me prednisone. The next night i felt palpitations and my heart racing extremely fast which made me think i was dying so i called 911. They ran a few ekgs and blood tests and nothing was found. They also gave me a 30 day monitor to calm me down that i had to wear around. Whenever i had symptoms i would press a button and record.
Avatar m tn I had an allergic reaction about a week and a half ago and was given prednisone upon leaving the ER, told to take 2/day for 5 days which ended on sunday 11/20/16. I did have an ekg which showed sinus tach w/T-wave abnormality ( I work in a hosp ) I am not sure if to be concerned with a high heart rate all the time or if it has to do with coming off the steriods? could you please advise?
Avatar f tn You can order a saliva test online, which is supposedly the most accurate test. Just make sure you overnight the specimen.
38309 tn?1270890103 Wow, I can't believe I was able to post a question! Thanks for time. I'm under the care of Carl Pepine, MD for microvascular ischemia. I don't have diabetes, am not overweight, but began having heart-related symptoms during my recent third pregnancy. The palps I describe have worsened over the past few years. I thought they were related to prednisone (a med I've taken over the years for colitis and asthma) but I haven't been on the Rx for months.
1284766 tn?1272809789 I'm on 200 mg Plaquinil twice a day and my heart rate goes up with any type of exertion. With light exertion it goes to 110-118. With moderate exertion it goes up to 140. For obvious reasons I don't even try heavy exertion!! Sitting still and doing nothing brings it back down into normal range. I'm off Prednisone and all inhalers and have been for quite awhile now. I also feel pretty sick when my pulse gets that high.
1558471 tn?1331222035 ve also heard of oral prednisone reducing PVCs. Oral prednisone I think becomes cortisone when taken orally or at least they are very similar.
Avatar f tn In addition, Prednisone can also CAUSE anxiety, panic and depression since it alters the hormones and neurotransmitters of the brain. It's little wonder why none of these doctors you mention want to take responsibilty. Don't blame you for standing your ground and seeking relief anyway possible.
Avatar m tn 4 months ago I began a therapy with prednisone (25 mg per day) and one month lather I got tested for hiv 1-2, the result hopefully was negative and all my blood exams were normal (but antibodies against HBV positive, without virus). My doctors said me that hiv is not a problem for me. However i began to worry again because it was been told me that prednisone is an immunosupressant and I fear that it could hide my hiv antibodies. What do you think about? Sould I have to get another test?
1284766 tn?1272809789 not terrible but still, it increased it. I know prednisone can make you anxious and irritated, and make you have a more pounding heart rate, but the doctor's assured me it shouldn't be doing that. And another weird one, which I'd never noticed before, probably because I was on plaquenil while taking it, is Ibuprofin: after taking it my heart rate went from about 75 - 80 to 92 (again not terrible but why the increase?).
Avatar n tn I would not be concerned about someone taking prednisone having sex and passing it to their partner. Are you allergic to prednisone for why you are asking?
Avatar f tn gov/pubmed/114570 Abstract The effect of exogenous prednisone on serum thyrotropin (TSH), thyroxine (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations was investigated in four patients with non-functioning thyroid glands receiving T4 replacement therapy. Orally administered prednisone, in a dose of 20 mg each day for nine days, resulted in a significant decrease in mean serum TSH levels (p less than 0.01) without significant changes in levels of serum T4, T3, and thyroxine binding globulin (TBG).
3061629 tn?1405458990 I took prednisone 60mg plus 2 steroid dose packs plus a short acting and long acting steroid injection in the past 6 weeks. I have been off all steroids x 3 weeks and am suffering from weakness, tremors, shaking inside and out, feelings of anxiety, shortness of breath, muscle cramps in my legs and feet and extreme lethargy. I'm thinking this must be an adrenal issue. Has anyone had these symptoms after prednisone? I am so anxious and shaky from mid morning until late afternoon.
