Common Questions and Answers about Prednisone and rashes

I was taking 20mg prednisone twice daily for 3 weeks, and my last dose was monday night. Today is Thursday, and I am developing an itchy rash over my whole body, do you think it is related? Also, my heart rate is also 104 at rest and I have a dull headache.
I have been feeling better however after recieving the antibiotics beginning with amoxacillin, I have been getting red blochy rashes on my neck, chest, back, and biceps. My rash does not itch but does feel very hot. Most importantly my rash will appear for no longer then 10 minutes and then dissapear. Hours or so later it will come back in the same spot with minimal if any swelling. I was wondering if any of you guys/girls could help me out. Thanks.
I called the drug company that made Incevic and they told me to take Prednisone for the rash and Diphenhydramine for the itch. This is what my dr. gave me.I was going through this during the winter months and I would go outside shirtless and cool my body down to get rid of the itch before going to bed.During the day I would ice myself down with ice packs.I kept my clothes in the refrigerator.I took cold showers.I had the rash from head to foot. All this helped in my discomfort with the rash.
will I ever get off of prednisone, would like to as I have some weight gain and do have a moon face... what can I expect???
But generally speaking, rest assured there are a large percentage of SVR people out there that are using steroidal creams/shampoos (which are absorbed into your body and do have an immunosuppressive effect) for rashes, and/or are using steroidal nasal sprays for congestion, and/or are taking steroidal inhalers for asthma, and/or in rare instances have used strong steroidal meds like IV solumedrol to suppress a serious allergic reaction (like from a bee sting).
I can feel that it hasn't really taken off but there is a huge difference. And now that I have tried the Prednisone and it helped I feel AMAZING! I am a horse trainer, and there is no way I can go out and train horses during the day. I can do very minimal work even still. But it makes me happy and that is the best drug out there!! Your mind set can change everything. My boyfriend has Cystic Fibrosis and he is the same way.
I am diagonsed as graves too, and i am recently had hives, big rash on my head, legs , all over the body, I went to er and got benadryl , did not help, then dr prescribed me prednisone.
I am basically living on hydroxizine for the itching and am currently taking prednisone. I have done all of the checking of the soaps, lotions, detergents these are not causing it. I have also tried watching my foods thinking it was a food allergy --none that I can tell. I do have an appt with an allergist coming up just in case.
I tried Doxepin too and had to stop because of the side effects, I have urticaria too and take some Reactine, Benadryl, Zantac and on some treatment that works for me, you don't know what his causing the urticaria????
but unfortunately 4 days before 6 months test I had a meth prednisone injection for my dry mouth and white tongue and skin rashes . later found out that this is type of medicine which can suppers the immune system and following that no antibody production .I was in deep anxiety and stress science these 6 months window period (sleep 4 hours per day and very sick) ,again I'm under stress right now MOSTLY BECAUSE OF INJECTION.
I have taken prednisone on and off for years at the tapering dose you are discribing. I needed it dermatology issues. Since rashes are a possible sx, I discussed it with my hepatologist and she said that it would be ok to take that small short term dose on tx. Before HCV, it was my treatment of choice for my skin issues, but because it suppresses the immune system, I now consider it a treatment of last resort. You are still UND, so it seems there was no negative impact on your tx.
He gave me prednisone and told me to contact my dermatologist. The prednisone was like a miracle drug. The rashes disappeared after a few days and my skin was clear and normal again. But they came back after the pills were gone. This time I went to my regular dr. She gave me prednisone too and said to call my dermatologist. I was going around in circles.
The Dermatologist prescribed 60mg of Prednisone for 3 days, then 40 mg for 3 days and finally 20 mg for 3 days. Three days after stopping Prednisone my face got that harsh rash again, increasing in intensity from day 1 to day 3. Finally on day 4 redness is starting to subside. QUESTION: Can oral corticosteroids like Prednisone cause steroid rosacea like the topical corticosteroids can ?
I started to develop a serious rash around week 5 or 6 and was off the VX by about week 8 (after going on prednisone, off prednisone and then back on). By the time I stopped the VX, I had developed such a nasty allergic reaction to the drug, my body just continued to behave as if I was till taking it (even though it has a short half life and is out of your system within a few days). The rash continued and got worse as time rolled on.
Hi, I started having rashes(hives) about 6 months ago. At that time, they outbreaks were intermittent and not too often. Went to the first doctor (told me it's an allergic reaction) and he prescribed me some anti-histamines that i was suppose to take over the course of 1 week. Then the rashes went away for a while but once a while i still get some itch.
I hate prednisone and consider it vastly over prescribed. I'd try something else for your rash before starting that nasty stuff.
My husband has had Parkinson's for about 10 years and recently took 5 days of 20mg. Prednisone tables twice a day for a pinched nerve. It completely removed his symptoms; he was tremor ... [More] free, clear thinking, strong voice, no walking problems, no slowness - NOTHING! It was like a miracle. He is now done with the Prednisone, and is back to where he was before. There must be something we can do with this information to help people with their symptoms.
Then, almost 2 weeks ago, my sister said that when she had ringworm, it looked similar to my rashes, so I bought some Lotrimin and it seemed to work a little bit, but what has worked the best is tea tree oil. So after this, I assumed it was ringworm and got both kittens tested for it. Today, after 11 days, the test came back negative. I thought for sure that it was ringworm but now I'm not sure.
The itching was so unbearable that I wasn't able to get a min of sleep for days. I went to the doctor on the fourth day and was prescribed 30 mg of Prednisone for 7 days. It has helped somewhat but at night once the meds wear off, I am back to intense itching and no sleep. I am on my 3rd day today. Today I am starting to take 10mg at a time 3 times a day..hoping that it will help me during the night if I spread it out.
but I had it soo bad three day burst of prednisone knocked it out for a while...I have had adrenal fatigue, and possible exposure to environmental chemicals, fungus (breathing in)...scabies?
Now instead 4 tables on first day we started 3 tabs on first day and today is second day and she has not taken prednisone yet. My Question is after taking those 3 tablets on yesterday(1st day) can we stop this prednisone because now she does not want to take it and she is feeling better with anti histamine and topical prednisone... I read a warning about abrupt discontinuation of prednisone and that is why am asking this question.
My wife has CIDP type neuropathy (no reflexes, inability to destinguish hot and cold in extremities and SEVERE burning pain in the affected areas.) The neuropathy is mainly in her feet, lower legs, hands and face. Her pulse was about 120 with high BP (151/101), symptoms of congestive heart failure (chest pressure, dry cough). Blood work looks ok... ANA neg sed rate and c-reactive protien slightly elevated. Frequent low grade fever, but no infection.
My son is 10 years old and has suffered from asthma and allergies since he was 2. He has had 3 sinus surgeries and still have far too many asthma attacks. For 2 months he has been having anywhere from 5 to 10 attacks a day, has been on prednisone 3 times in six months which I understand is dangerous to other aspects of his health. Are there any other options for him after prednisone is tried? He is miserable!!
Hi!!! I still have the same rashes that I had while I was on tx. and I've been off tx since Nov!!!! I hope you can find the "culprit" soon. I also was put on a "pack" of predisone that you take some many the first day...and then less the next day...and so on and so on! I was "seeing" things...like when I dozed off...it was like I saw a cat...thru a screen....etc. My 80 yr old neighbor, just happened to come to check on me...
I had crooked ring like rashes all over my body which would come and go. Then I went to an allergist and he put me on Prednisone steriods. After the 6 day coourse the stuff had almost completely gone from my body. I found out I am allergic to brufen though. I had a blood test done in which my white blood count was 5 normal being (4-10). around very early feb maybe 4th. I got another blood test done this time with hiv test included on my request.
It is safe, all natural and very effective for most skin conditions like these rashes and itches and psoriasis. Now I know this has nothing to do with Asthma and I know that in some severe cases prednisone is needed short term. Certainly 9 days does not sound long to do any harm, or turn you into a pumkin head Meki ;), especially if you are going to be able to breath again!!! I agree with most here, I doubt it can bring the virus back....
08 at the beach and was taken to the ER. She had puffy swollen eyes and itching, burning. They gave her prednisone and a shot of epi. which cleared it up. Then a week later it reappeared and same thing back to ER.
In april of 2009 i was walking in a store when suddenly my legs got heavy and I felt as if I could not lift them. The next day I had double vision all day and then my eye turned red and became painful. I eventually went to the doctor for my eye and was told that I had Uveitis. The immediately tested me for auto immune issues and Ms but said that it was all negative. The Uveitis lasted 10 months.
Since taking the prednisone 3 months ago, she began having blurred vision, which I hear is a common side affect. But she has had lingering side affects of skin flushing/rashes and the worrisome side affect of a sensation in her head as she describes as a wavy electric current that lasts very briefly and feels like water rushing through her head. She has had an MRI, EEG, a neurological workup and several visits to an environmental allergist. So far all tests have shown up negative.

She tells me these electrical surges can be anywhere from 3 to 300 times a day.
