1096523 tn?1257646845 Do some research on the long term effect of prednisone, and you might want to reconsider (prednisone can cause damage to liver as well...). Since your liver is targeted, look into taking milk thistle (silymarin..protects liver from toxins) as a supplement. Orthodox MDs seldom give much attention to letting the body heal itself, they need to prescribe toxic drugs.
Avatar n tn I am 32 and have suffered from migraines for about 3 years. They started pretty much out of the blue, however, a lot of people in my family suffer from them. I have tried nortriptaline, amitriptaline, verapamil, all without success. The first two didn't do anything for my migraines, and the verapamil made my blood pressure so low I couldn't function.
Avatar f tn Just wondering as I have never heard of this before except with Osteoporosis. My mother has Osteoporosis and I am worried about her as she is not on anything for it except 1000 iu per day Vitamin D and she is almost 75 yrs old. They wanted to put her on a med called Forteo where she has to give herself an injection once per day every day for 2 yrs to grow new bone. I have read up on it and it says it caused bone cancer in mice so we have not put her on it yet.

Avatar f tn said that my Sed rate was elevated, but not enough to be RA and that my potassium was low. He felt that the arthritis was from my psoriasis and gave me pain meds to take. That was 5 days ago, I still have pain in my shoulders, not as bad though, my fingers are all swollen and my wrists, knees and ankles are swollen. Another thing I've noticed over the last 2 or 3 nights I have been sweating a lot.

Avatar f tn I'm with you - I HATE summer colds especially! I'm sorry you're feeling poorly. I can only speak from my own personal experience and unfortunately, I don't know that that is going to answer your question much, because as with any medication, it's effect can vary from person to person.

Avatar m tn t swelling and foamy urine. Now that I have a diagnosis, I am on pill forms of Prednisone every other day and Cyclosporine 2x every day. I have been on the meds for over 1 1/2 weeks and noticed that the foamy urine amount has doubled, my face swells unbelievably, and walking is difficult, as the bottom of my feet and ankles cause me severe pain. I checked with my Nephrologist and she states that it will take a little while for my body to adjust to the medicine.
1627204 tn?1302012537 5 mg tablets once a week of methotrexate but go Monday to adjust those to lower the prednisone and up the methotrexate . I have been on them about 4 months and the plan is to go off prednosone by 6 months and let the methotrexate do the heavy lofting and be on it about a year if not longer. Ive been lucky and as much as o hate tge side effects they are livable and could be worse. No miracles but my gm has improved some at least how often i have had to get drainings so om optimistic.

Avatar f tn High dosages of prednisone, infusions, weak oral treatments, shot treatments, blood transfusions, and last but not the very least, e.r. and hospitalizations. I am 24 and my colitis is very aggressive and is in remission maybe 10 percent of the year. Many treatments have came and gone but the only one that can control my UC is the prednisone and many of it. I cant go below 20mgs or else i will flare, thats why my average dosage is between 50-60mgs.
Avatar f tn I am 40 years old and have PMR. It has just been 2 years since I was diagnosed and I don't seem to have any signs of this going away. Can anyone tell me if this really does go away after 2-3 years? In addition I've been having extreme pain in my mid back, seems to radiate up and down my spine, but is generally based in the middle near my ribs, and across my shoulders. This is much worse at night and when I lay down, very tough to get a good night's sleep.
Avatar f tn Factor in that the medicine in Advair is being inhaled and used directly in your lungs, not being digested and spread through your intire body, the amount of steroid that gets into your system is even less than 1/100th the size as with oral steroids. For this reason, the side effects of oral steroids, such as moonface, necrosis, osteoporosis, diabetes, ..., do not occur with Advair or any other inhaled corticosteroid. I hope that makes you feel better about using your Advair.

Avatar m tn And long-term use of inhaled steroids has been linked to thinning bones and osteoporosis in both men and women, weight gain, mood swings, stunted growth and acne–just to name a few. While no one should give up their inhalers without talking to a doctor first, there are other ways to help breathe easier and limit or even eliminate the use of meds. First, if you’re obese, lose the weight.
Avatar f tn Prednisone, especially when taken long term, can cause a wide range of serious side effects, including diabetes, thinning bones (osteoporosis), broken bones (osteonecrosis), high blood pressure, cataracts, glaucoma and weight gain. Azathioprine (Azasan, Imuran). Azathioprine, another immunosuppressant medication, is sometimes used along with prednisone. Using both medications may allow you to take a smaller dose of prednisone, reducing its side effects.
