Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
1378884 tn?1315505845 In a nutshell, osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear on the joint. It can happen at any age, not just to "old people". It can be brought on by an injury, a congenital deformity, overuse in a sport or job. RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability.
572823 tn?1217209089 However, I have had many allergic reactions to the Imuran and others and therefore had to withstand numerous cycles of high-dose Prednisone tapers to get back to normal liver functions before attempting another medication. I have now been through 7 different types of medication, half of them not even commonly used for AIH but used for Lupus and R.A.
Avatar f tn 5120 homogenous. Aditional blood being sent to Oklahoma for scleroderma 12 panel and he told me it would take up to 3 months to get results. Since I have symptoms of both lupus and scleroderma he's waiting to make a dx. Has anyone else had this kind of testing? He started me on prednisone and plaquanel. Anyone else started on this combo off meds?

Avatar f tn Anybody that has an input would be greatly appreciated. Anyway I am 24 and used to be very active in lifting weights. Now I have carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel. Starting to notice it in my shoulder as well. It all started with a pain in my wrist which I thought was from doing too many bicep curls. It has been getting much worse. By my pointer finger knuckle on both hands it is swollen. In most parts of my body I have tender joints. My ribs evn grind and Crack sometimes. Weird feeling!
Avatar n tn Her arthritic doctor has done blood work and diagnosed her with bursitis, borderline RA, oesteoarthritis (from xrays) and put her on prednisone. She also sent her to a neurologist thinking it might be a pinched nerve. She has also been doing physical therapy 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Nothing is giving her relief. Should she have an MRI or be on arthritis medication instead of prednisone? Anyone going through this also?
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
529224 tn?1400648219 The other knee was about to be replaced in 2012 and an emergency came in and my OP was postponed.I took up hill walking, despite it hurt, aquafit twice a week and swimming lengths (not breaststroke!) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn t tried it myself yet, only because I HATE taking pills, but have heard a few success stories about Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar m tn I have osteoarthritis in my neck moderate and mild in lower back. Can and adjusment help? will they even do an adjustment me? i seem to be losing sensativity in my legs but dont know if iy du to oa in back nad neck.any help would be great. thank you.
Avatar m tn t expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn Does osteoarthritis generally cause an elevated Sed Rate and and elevated C-Reactive Protein? Anyone have these tests elevated with your condition? Thanks!
778803 tn?1244640352 So I just got dx with facet arthritis.. I am on Plaquenil and low dosage prednisone for Sjrogen/lupus. I am also currently starting a treatment of Vit D at 50,000 units per week... for deficiency... Could Facet arthritis all come from this autoimune problem... I do also have osteoarthritis on my knees and arthritis on my shoulder... Any advice out there is welcomed.
Avatar f tn Hi,thanks in advance for any responses...much appreciated and my drs. do not know. I've been menopausal since Nov.2011(my last period) and I've been diag.hypothyr.about 3-5 yrs. I'm currently on estrogen patch+progesterone+150 mcg synthroid. Wondering if anyone has had experience with hip (actually where the leg and hip meet)pain that disturbs their sleep? Also on another note wondering the best labs to target any such problems, whether hormone or thyroid related.
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar f tn Hi, I am 43 yr old female.I have osteoarthritis in my neck, get migraines and fibromyalgia (all dx) I have recently seen a Neurologist who said its not worth having an MRI. I disagree, and my osteopath is also worried. I have very gentle treatment on my neck, every few weeks, pain killers hardly touch my pain..I am getting giddy spells, severe pain in shoulders neck and occipital area.
Avatar f tn So I started taking Indocin but stop my maintenance pills--- Colchicine and Allopurinol. Next day, cripple pain is worse now on the left than the right. 3rd day, my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, 4pills for 2 d; 3 pills, etc. BTW, I was diagnosed with gouty arthritis when I was 35 yrs. old. This is the first time that this happened, red, swollen feet on both feet? I thought gouty flare ups attack one joint at a time? How come this one? When blood work, x rays, etc.
272434 tn?1228607209 I also have carpal tunnel and I have osteoarthritis. Both very painful, and I also need surgery, and I told them not right now. I take a long time to heal, and that alone is enough for me not to have surgery. I also use splints at night, and I have had to cut back on my quilting, but I refuse to stop all together. The osteoarthritis I have in all of my joints as well as RA, I have a triple whammy.
Avatar f tn If you had pain, stiffness and swelling and the prednisone took it away, clearly there is some kind of inflammation going on in your body. There are over 100 different types of arthritis. A person can test positive for the RA factor and never get it and can also test negative and have the disease. Also check the labs to see if they tested you for a gene marker HLA-B27.
1205076 tn?1310609559 sarcoidosis (lung, liver), fibromyalgia, osteopenia, chronic cough, high blood pressure (controlled), and severe osteoarthritis.
