Avatar f tn I am still Thankful though I received a kidney transplant a year later. Now the only problem is that I might not be able to take the medicine prescribed by doctors for Hepatitis C. I was told by a hepatologist that since I take prednisone (a steroid) and because I am already anemic that these things might cause blood cells count to be lowered even more. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Avatar n tn Kidney transplants are a treatment option in extreme cases, and are available at a few veterinary facilities in the US. The College of Veterinary Medicine, in Davis, California has a top notch Kidney Transplant and pet dialysis facility. Long-term management involves monitoring kidney functions with blood and urine tests every three to six months. At home hydration can be monitored by pinching the skin on the back of your cat's neck. Hold it for five seconds, then release.

Avatar m tn Patients with kidney failure should be evaluated and treated for chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder, including renal osteodystrophy. Secondary hyperparathyroidism, in particular, should be treated. Treatment is indicated in the immediate posttransplantation period irrespective of bone mineral density because further rapid bone loss will occur in the first several months after transplantation.

5536514 tn?1373500002 It does not sound like that is the position you are in. Many liver transplant patients have kidney problems both before and after transplant so it is not uncommon for hepatologists to manage both. Please don't waste your time and stress yourself over something that is not a real issue. Get a doctor you can communicate with then focus on your next steps. Good Luck.

Avatar f tn Tristan...I'm a kidney transplant recipient and also have lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. I like to use natural herbs, such as Turmeric, curcumin, parsley, and many others in my food. Certain herbs help inflammation go down which helps pain go down. I am also into essential oils, preferably Doterra, which helps with some of the pain. You have to mix most of them in a carrier oil such as coconut oil, before you rub it on your skin. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn s kidneys started shutting down about a year ago due to what the doctors think is an allergy to ibuprofen. She was on the verge of needing a kidney transplant. The doctors put her on Prednisone, though, and now her kidney function is almost 100% again! It's all about treatment. Just thank God that we've got that! Best of luck you. I am sure you have a long life ahead of you.
Avatar n tn I work with kidney and heart transplant clients at a hospital, and I work with preparing people to receive and return home after a transplant. At our facility, we generally have people in the hospital four to seven days after a kidney transplant. Told that there is nothing more they can do. They are sending him home and now what happens???? Is there a time frame to all this??? He is in a hospital about 3 hours away and I just don't know what to do. Thank God again, he has 2 daughters that live near the hospital so he can stay there as long as necessary.
Avatar m tn The good news is the kidneys will usually bounce back after a liver transplant and have as good outcomes as those patients who underwent transplantation without being treated for HRS. Some whose kidneys become too damaged need a liver and kidney transplant to recover their health again. There are types of hepatorenal syndrome (HRS): Type I shows a rapidly progressive reduction in renal function as defined by a doubling of the initial serum creatinine to a level greater that 2.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with MSK 10 years ago and after numerous procedures and ops have just had my left kidney removed due to infection. I Went for a check up today and have just found out my creatine levels are high and they are worried I may have an infection in my remaining kidney. Avatar n tn I cannot speak for other transplant centers, but the Nebraska Medical Center has a solid organ transplant floor where every room is private. This floor consists of liver and kidney transplant recipients. The heart transplant recipients are on a different floor, and they have a private room, too. Since the person's immunosuppressant levels are significantly lower, due to the medications, private rooms is the standard for transplant recipients at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Avatar m tn I had a liver transplant about 15 years ago and it was from hep c from a tatoo...well, I have done great until recently, I have hep c back, I am yellow, tired, feel bad but, now the dr. says I have kidney disease too. Avatar m tn My husband is 60 years old, 7 years post liver transplant for hep C. Hep C recurred, and the new liver suffered damage--stage 3 or 4. He went through a couple of years of hep c treatment, and has been virus undetectable for 2 years. When his liver failed 7 years ago, his kidneys failed, and never came back. He has been on dialysis since then. He has been in "inactive" status on the kidney list since 2007, and has been undergoing testing to clear him for kidney transplant.
