Avatar f tn The good news is about 70 to 80% of patients with ITP respond to prednisone therapy and splenectomy (removal of the spleen).
Avatar m tn The reasons I have been on prednisone include sarcoidosis and autoimmune hemolytic anemia and ITP. I also have CLL and my IGG/IGA/IGM are low. For years I have been diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, but recently my ANA has been normal, after 15 years of being elevated. I consider hypothermia an oral temp less than 94; they have been as low as 89.
1472647 tn?1297191572 But now any natural medicine doctor who reads this can start testing and treating their patients with ITP for Helicobacter, and in many cases curing the problem without Prednisone. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition with a connection to Helicobacter. (H PYLORI ) Even “conservative” medical circles have started to acknowledge that there may be an association between Helicobacter eradication and improvement of rosacea.
437079 tn?1222438840 with them as they are better suited to treat this type of disease. Do you bruise and or bleed easily? Basically ITP is when the immune system malfunctions and begins to attack platelets as if they were foreign substances. Did this rheumatologist give you any answers as far as how to treat the ITP. You need to ask for copies of your blood work and keep a file for yourself.
Avatar n tn Hi my name is Heather I've had itp for 4 going on 5 years and yes it can before I knew I had itp my period almost killed me my pallets dropped down to 3 and I was bleeding out through my menstrual I ended going into the hospital just in time and having to receive blood and ivig because it was bad now that I'm aware that I have ITP there are precautions I take you can speak to your daughters doctor about birth control and as well as taking a medication called lysteda to control the bleedi
Avatar n tn Is there anything that anyone knows about that can help ITP and raise the platelets? The specialist said that her bone marrow is healthy and producing platelets, but the spleen is over active and eating them up. I would like to try to find anything for her to give a go, before she has surgery, which will be in a couple of weeks. Thanks.
Avatar n tn My daughter has ITP and had a bone marrow biopsy and was diagnosed with this 2 yrs ago. She has been on prednisone on and off for 2 yrs, but not it is not working that well and her platelets are dropping low even on the prednisone. Her last count was 12 (which in USA is 12,000). They never seem to go over 32 (32,000). She is now having a spleenectomy in a couple of weeks. I was just wondering if there is anything anyone has found to help increase the platelets? Much appreciated.
1111202 tn?1262528841 m afraid, I have not read your previous posts. ITP in adults are usually mild and may not require treatment. Just regular monitoring of the platelet levels is enough. Treatment is usually aimed at increasing the blood platelet count. Continue with your prednisone and if it does not help, talk to your doctor about this. Removal of the spleen may also be considered.
Avatar n tn Hi. I am 33 years old and was diagnosed with AIH 12 years ago. I have been managed successfully--first with prednisone and then with imuran. My enzymes have been 'normal' for 8 years or so. However, I am hoping to get pregnant and so my Dr. slowly weaned me off the imuran and now I am on prednisone 20mg. My last dose of immuarn was tuesday--25mg (down from 100mg). Now my dr. wants me to wait 2-3 months to start trying to get pregnant!
Avatar f tn Her platelets got extremely low several years ago and after being diagnosed she was put on prednisone, for several months I think. She slowly weaned off of it and has never had a recurrence of low platelets. In the meantime she's had cardiac bypass surgery and was fine.
Avatar f tn Has had significant hair loss for the last 5 months. Cortisol AM is normal. My duaghter also has ITP and is considered chronic, it usually manifests during a UC flare up. Is the Lialda a possible culprit.
Avatar m tn My son, who is 21, has been recently (Feb.2013) started feeling ill and went to his regular Dr. He was having stomach pain and diarrhea with bloody stools. First thought it may be ulcer or stress related as he is a University student with a hectic schedule and carrying a lot of units - hit at finals time so therefor stress related. Blood tests revealed low platelets and elevated lipase so he was referred to a hematologist.
563571 tn?1232491190 I once read about an early researcher who transfused himself with blood from a patient with ITP and he himself developed ITP. In ITP the body creates antibodies which consume the platelets shortly after they are made and the body is in constant overburdened platelet production. That is the immune type, which I have, anyway. The antibodies in the blood sample must have caused his body to produce these antibodies on it's own.
451343 tn?1256250831 Awwww I am sorry your going through this and in some pain. I have been on prednisone a few times and a long time when I was younger, but still I don't remember much about it or any syptoms.
545538 tn?1295992017 Kathy, Back in 2003 I was found to have low platelets and sent to a Hemotoligist who dianosed ITP. I had all kinds of test run(including bone marrow biopsy) He never tested me for Hep C even though low platelets is a symptom. Three years later my new primary care Dr. thought that my liver enzymes were a little high and sent off a hep c test and it was positive. My liver specialist thinks that I never had ITP (an autoimmune disease) I was misdianosed.
Avatar m tn To determine the effect of HCV infection on the incidence rates of ITP and AIHA, researchers analyzed the inpatient and outpatient records as well as pharmacy data from HCV-infected (n = 120,691) and matched uninfected (n = 454,905) veterans. The diagnosis of ITP and AIHA was identified via hospitalization codes. Those with a prior diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disease, HIV, or cirrhosis were excluded from the analysis.
471161 tn?1317190950 My daughter is on a higher dose of prednisone for ITP and has not lost any hair. However, I heard as well that MSM (sulphur) works wonders and have not tired it yet, but am going to start myself. It's worth a try.
382218 tn?1341181487 She was getting more and more tired, this went on for months, finally daignosed with ITP and started on oral prednisone. She had all of its nasty side effects but has been off the meds for more than a year. They keep a close eye on her platelet count, and fortunately it has remained stable even since going off the prednisone. No idea how she developed it, so it's just called idiopathic. Before this happened I had never heard of it.
Avatar m tn Hi All, Just joined the group and wanted to say 'Hello' and introduce myself. I was diagnosed late in 1993 (late 20's) but, can remember symptoms, symptom rather - pins and needles in my right arm, back when I was 15-16. The majority of my symptoms have been neuropathies. I was in the lottery for Betaseron. When my number was drawn my doctors didn't want to give the 'official' diagnoses of MS. I later started Betaseron and had allergic reaction to it.
Avatar m tn i am 15 years old and i have chronic itp so it could be an unknown symptom from itp but i have had itp for almost 9 years now and this is the first time this has happened. i am guessing that the "boogers" are a mixture of puss and blood so it could also be a bladder infection or something. i have also felt the need to urinate more frequently but all in all i urinate the same amount of urine as before, only over more times. can anyone help me?
639124 tn?1223422596 ) So I went home and did some research, read about ITP and TTP, and thought maybe it was just due to being pregnant that they were low. No biggie for the time being, right? WRONG. All day yesterday, I had a pain under my arm, which I thought was my underwire from my bra cutting into my skin. Upon further investigation, I realized it's not from that, it is a swollen lymph node. I haven't had a swollen node under my arm since I was about 12 yrs old.
Avatar n tn My four year old niece was in a car accident, after which she had a full blood count taken, and was then diagnosed with ITP; i'ts now six weeks later, and she has lost vision in one eye. The doctors are not yet sure what has caused this and if it wil be permanent. Prior to this loss of vision, her mother noticed that her eye became very red (her child would also rub the eye a lot), and a day later the redness in the eye went away, though the eye colour darkened considerably.
Avatar n tn She did clear the virus and has had negative RNA since. In June, 2008 she developed ITP which is Immune Thormbocytopenia. It is an auto-immune disorder where her body is destroying its platelets. I know there can be a relationship between Hep C & ITP, but her doctor didn't think there would be a connection almost 9 years after treatment.
Avatar n tn Eurona Earl Tilley February 26, 2009 — The incidence of 2 severe autoimmune cytopenias — immune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) and autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) — has been shown to be elevated among individuals infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). Research published in the February 23 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine reveals that HCV-infected patients in the Veterans Affairs (VA) health system were at increased risk of developing ITP.
Avatar n tn I have had ITP and it is in remission. I want to have the hair on my top lip removed by lazer. Will this present risk to my health and starting up the ITP again or the bleeding that goes along with ITP?
