Avatar f tn About a year and a half ago, I had a severe asthma episode and coschondrits for the first time. I was put on a 2 week coarse of Prednisone along with ibuprofen. By the end I had developed an issue swallowing pills. Even my small thyroid ones felt like they got stuck. Then it progressed to coughing up small hard bits of food, severe reflux, etc. After too much testing, the problem mostly resolved except for lingering occasional esophageal spasms and the thought that some was just hypersesivity.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it is two different problems, allergies and GERD or if the GERD can also cause these symptoms.
Avatar f tn It has the disadvantage of raising blood pressure, and very expensive, but it works very well and in some cases can eliminate the need for oral prednisone and all other medications. The manufacturer has a special till December and will give a months free supply to any physician making a request.
Avatar m tn Endoscopy (to determine cause for GERD, i.e. Hiatal hernia, LES dysfunction, etc.) and 24hr PH or Impedance study and see if you even NEED the high dosage of Nexium. GERD is very complicated and can indeed make Asthma worse for some patients, but you need to be checked out by a GI and then get treatment.
Avatar m tn It is related to both asthma and sleep apnea. Prednisone should help with asthma symptoms and GERD can give you the exact same symptoms (I'm proof of that - wheezing, lowered peak flows, positive lung function tests, coughing). The best test for this is 24 pH monitoring or impedance testing - it measures the reflux over a 24 hour period to diagnose.
144586 tn?1284666164 I take nexium and zantac for my GERD. treating GERD may help asthma and sleep apnea. perhaps the acid causes inflammation. it may also be better to avoid any spicy foods, allergic foods, nuts, milk, lemon, acidic foods prednisone may cause brain damage long term to the hippocampus and the neurons there. so getting steroidal injections or taking high doses seem questionable in some situations.
Avatar f tn I know so many people that rushed to the ER thinking they are having a heart attack only to find out it was GERD. Search the net for GERD, Apple Cider Vinegar and you will see folks describing what you mentioned here - except for the jaw/leg pain. That may be a coincidence. And when you say you feel it at rest, that points to anxiety which works with GERD to make you miserable. Any health food stores (like Sprouts) or vitamin shop will carry it.
Avatar n tn Took 2 antibiotics, 3 bottles of Prednisone and 2 shots of Solu-Medrol, an inhaler, a nebulizer w/ albuterol and lot of rest. My pulmonologist thinks I got the bronchitis from GERD. I have aspirated stomach acid into my lungs and scar tissue has formed. He thinks I have done that again and caused the bronchitis. I also had shortness of breath and chronic cough. Recently I have started having heart palpitations after I eat. Also lot of headaches and occasionally spike a 99.2 fever.
Avatar n tn I have GERD and RADS. Does GERD also cause breathing difficulties? I was exposed to Sahara Winds and dust, which I didn't recognize for what it was and was outside in it for 4 hours. A few days later I had severe asthma like symptoms and burning in the lungs which is something I never had this bad before. I am taking 40 mg prednisone for 4 days but only helping a bit. Is the GERD aggravating the breathing difficulties?
Avatar f tn He prescribed Nasonex and Patanase as well as recommended a GERD friendly diet and recommended some OTC GERD medication (Prevacid). After the appointment I took two squirts of the Nasonex - and miraculously the next morning I felt much better. I continued with the Nasonex and Patanase over the next few days and now I feel probably 80% better. The cough has diminished from an all the time debilitating cough to one that is just occasional.
Avatar n tn Motrin will give you all that pain. It's very hard on the stomach and causes reflux and gerd. Take a Prilosec and walk. Get the gas out. Gas pain can be extremely painful and stressing about it will just make it so much worse. I know this is an old post but wanted to help anyone reading.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis in 2004, and when my anemia did not clear up after 6 months of prednisone and other meds, another colonoscopy was performed and the colitis was completely cleared up, revealing a tumor in the hepatic flexure of the colon. This turned out to be stage 3C colon cancer. While Hurricane Katrina was pummelling New Orleans, I had a partial colectome and underwent 6 months of FOLFOX 6 chemo, concurrent with 12 months of Avastin as part of a study.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have rectal pain and blood- when I have a bowel it seems to improve my wheezing near my stomach and GERD and I feel better. Prednisone also helps and when I take it I often have a bowel movement.
Avatar n tn The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people.
Avatar m tn Consider talking to you doc about doing a longer course of PPIs and in addition consider following a GERD-friendly diet. You can find a representative example at www.gicare.com and click the diet button. You may have to be on PPIs for several months to try to clear things up. When you start to come off of them, do so very slowly. There can be a condition called rebound reflux that occurs when the acid pumps turn back on.
1580703 tn?1651904887 thanks a lot- yeah I've been on the HC and then prednisone for 25 days now- I still have bleeding I think from the hemmarhoids
Avatar f tn Hello. I have had severe heartburn and difficulty with swallowing for many years and finally went to a GI doctor who did an EGD. During the scope, my esophagus was torn and the MD was unable to view my entire esophagus. I went in for a second scope after my esophagus rested and a biopsy was taken (and I recieved another small tear). It was determined that I have Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE).
Avatar n tn Ear, nose, and throat specialist said to keep doing what I am doing and contact him in 2 months. I also have GERD and am currently taking Nexium since last May 2007. I also just bought an air purifier to put in the bedroom as a last hope. No one seems to be able to help. The allergy medicenes such as drixoral, etc. seem to cause a cough.
Avatar f tn The ENT said GERD. I have been on protonix My GI says it is not GERD. ad endoscopyseveral months afo and was negative for GERD. The pulmonologist said it was laringer spasms and a viral infection in vocal cords. Hospitalized for 3 weeks. Home on 20 days of oral steroids, flovent and nebulizer treatments. I am not feeling better. The coughng and the raspy, hoarse voice is still there and the gasping for air and choking continues but has gotten a little better.
471161 tn?1317190950 s a prescription cream. I have gastritis and gerd and wanted to spare my stomach. When I got the tube and read it, it stated that it may upset the stomach. Guess it does get into your blood stream.
20293666 tn?1494392823 I have been to see the doctor 4 times. I have been told it was a cold, I have been told it was GERD / acid reflux and I have been told it was bronchitis. I have been on antibiotics and Prednisone twice. I was also given an albuterol inhaler and none of these things helped. I have also been having difficultly taking in a deep breath and feel out of breath if I walk up steps. Other than the coughing and shortness of breath I have no other symptoms.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I also seem to have some sores in my nose and sinuses. I have GERD and had a colonoscopy which showed rectal polyps, neurofibroma. My flex sig biopsies were negative- so both tests neg for Crohn's/UC. Is there still a chance I could have Crohn's or UC that was missed? When I take prednisone I have a bowel movement soon after and feel a little better.
Avatar n tn m on bipap now to see if that helps (I also have GERD and COPD which are major components, plus sleep apnea, which makes you wake up multiple times during the night (unknown to you) and gasp for air (the gasping is what they think is causing the gunk to hit the lungs, as well as a few episodes of reflux from the gerd - waking up chocking and coughing). My guess is that your enbrel is what's causing your immune system to go on strike and make it easy to get infections.
