Avatar f tn My question is I was on prednisone for both these tests, and I’m finding out now that prednisone can drastically reduce the size of enlarged lymph nodes. I am soo concerned about this. Is this true ? If so, how long should I stop the prednisone for in order to repeat the tests and have a accurate result.
Avatar f tn My friend she had a chest infection for a while and they did all kinds of tests and found no cancers in the lungs gave her prednisone and was on it for a year now has lung cancer. My mother was prescribed the drug for inflammation of the eye and she developed smouldering myeloma cancer and a TB that had be dormant has shown up in her tests. Another was a rear prostate cancer and this man had regular check with private specialists. Another was lymphoma cancer all after being on that drug.
Avatar f tn They are now placing him on a prednisone gtt. 450mg of prednisone infused in one hour for three days on a row and today is his third day.
Avatar f tn I do not have Graves but I did have RAI following my thyroidectomy for cancer and I was given prednisone to help with inflamation in my salivary glands and gums. Only, I wasn't very smart and I didn't take it after the 2nd day because it made me feel even worse than I already did. I should have taken it though, I ended up having issues that could have been prevented. Don't know if this helps but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Avatar m tn Some dogs will survive Lymphoma, it all depends on how fast the cancer is growing. My first dog got this and he had a fast growing cancer and I went throught all of the cancer treatments and he lived 6 months longer. I had to make a finacial choice to allow him to go, it was hard to allow him to suffer, will it was only the last two days that he could not breath well when laying down.
Avatar f tn I was just diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis 2 weeks ago. I too have started taking prednisone and azathioprine and have the same concerns you do. First off, how much weight did prednisone cause you to gain and how long did it take for you to notice the weight gain. How much were you taking? I am really concerned about that.
Avatar m tn In January, my beloved dog of 17 years, Taylor, a American Eskimo mix, was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. This was done thru unusual results in his blood test and was not confirmed by ultra sound. At 17, it seemed worthless to confirm a diagnosis that nothing could really be done. He was growing very weak, had episodes of collapse, not knowing where he was, onset of blindness. His blood sugar was very low(40). The vet said to treat the symptoms and put him on Prednisone, 5 mg, twice a day.
Avatar f tn Enlargement of lymph nodes under the arm is common. It can be easily confused with malignant breast cancer and requires thorough pathology review as there have been cases of patients who were thought to have had a malignant disease that in some instances resulted in inappropriate radiotherapy and wide resection of breast tissue. As this is a breast cancer forum our expertise regarding breast cancer. You may want to consider seeing a breast specialist for advise regarding this condition.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry to see your girl has liver cancer, your vet has made a wise choice to NOT do surgery in this case. Our Rottie Zena had cancer in her left rear leg she also had arthritis, you might ask your vet what he/she thinks of using Tramadol to see if this would give her some relief. This is pain medication,Zena was using Chondroitin 1,200 mg. and Glucosamine 1,500 mg.- 2 tabs a day (crushed in her food) for the arthritis.
Avatar m tn Metastatic prostate cancer is the beginning of the end game with prostate cancer and may be treated with chemotherapy to slow things down and/or radiation (to reduce the size of the tumor(s), and/or diminish any pain (palliative therapy) they cause). It's not a great future we have but then there are many folks who have beaten the odds and are alive and well years after biochemical failure following prostatectomy and years after developing hormone refractory PCa.
Avatar f tn My father had lymphoma for two years and never had unusual CBCs, except as the result of medications. E.g., prednisone can elevate WBC - but so can tremendous stress. The odd feature in your case, I think, is the steadily increasing number. Docs can see indications from scans on whether cancer is involved. You might instead have some unusual condition involved with your immune system - especially if you have an Fx of that.
Avatar m tn m not sure if you are aware of this, but there is an excellent bladder cancer forum, hosted by the American Bladder Cancer Society. You might want to join that (if you haven't already) and post this question there. http://www.bladdercancersupport.
Avatar m tn I have it extremely bad as you d. I am prone to about four lung infections a year and only prednisone helps. I too was in the hospital unable to breathe properly and was givn prednisone overnight. They almost had a fit when they discovered that i had a double heart beat every fourt or fifth beat. Suddenly it was EKG scan, the works. Then, as is usual with me, when I relax quietly my heartbeat drops to about fifty or less.
403156 tn?1290150018 I have posted on here in the past regarding my dog being diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma in August of '08. She underwent the CHOP protocol for 16 weeks and upon completion she only lasted in remission less than 3 months. Her condition deteriorated quite rapidly and we began treatment with lomustine and prednisone as a last resort. We realize this won't extend her life very long, but we are trying to make her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible.
89592 tn?1391274422 My platelets were 93 but I always run a low platelet count since I have medicine inducted neutropenia being that I am on meds for rheumatoid arthritis....enbrel and prednisone (5 mg). My platelets have run in the 100-120 range for about three years. All other lab values were very good.....and he saw no problem anywhere else. I am a 60 yr old female....with r/a since 1983. Post menopause. Could you give me an idea of what could have caused this?
7020218 tn?1426544951 I have had some cough past 2-3 weeks. Initially I was coughing with some throat pain for a few days but later I don't have pain, just prolonged cough. I saw urgent care and they gave me prednisone, azythromycin, hyrdromet and benzonatate. My cough hasn't gone completely yet - just low level and my legs have been achy. I have no fever, no nausea, no vomitting. 2 docs I saw in 2 weeks said my lungs are clear.
Avatar f tn I hate to say this, but it sounds as though your cat has multiple conditions, infections, and inflamations and possible cancer that is affecting multiple internal organs. I suspect the prednisone is to help delay symptoms and pain by managing the inflamations. In most cases, steroids are not advised long term, but in this case, it could well be the best course of action to prolong kitty's life and keep him comfortable.
Avatar f tn The Dr admits he has never seen Sjogrens cause these severe ulcers inside both cheeks and on my tongue, but he also says he has never had a Sjogrens patient that has had the previous tongue cancer and already have bad probl ms due to loosing saliva glands with the cancer surgery. Getting desperate and miserable, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have survived 2 bouts with tongue cancer several years ago. Constant visits and biopsies with my surgeon has kept it away. Almost a year ago I developed severe mouth ulcers and the cancer Dr is very concerned that all this inflammation will lead to a mouth full of cancer. Scary stuff. It took 3months to get into a rheumatologist and he ordered a biopsy to confirm Sjogrens. He said it is very rare to have Sjogrens cause this much damage. He ordered steroids for 2weeks, then colcrys.
Avatar f tn , now they have added Keppra to his phenobarbital and after a visit with an animal neurologist, who believes my dog has a tumor based on some exercises he put him through, and added prednisone to the mix, I feel all of this is excessive and unsafe for my dog but he's never had any medical conditions before so I don't know what is 'normal' in doggie meds - are pheno-barbital, Keppra and Prednisone commonly prescribed together for seizures?
Avatar n tn I have a 15 year old male cat that was diagnosed at the end of July last year with mulitple myeloma. He had no outward symptoms but over the previous 6 months had lost much of his muscle tone which is what led me to take him to the vet. His globulin level was 8.0 and total protien was at 10.9. X-rays showed that he had punctate lesions in one front leg. I took him to several vets to try to get advice on treatment.
Avatar f tn Been off all muscle relaxants and prednisone for 3 weeks now. I will schedule complete opth exam to rule out any underlying eye problems and do you mean physical therapy might be warranted given whiplash diagnosis and still recurring problems?
Avatar f tn My mom is a Hodgkins Disease survivor who now has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and she's experienced fevers, drenching night sweats; weight loss; rash and frequent (often, uncontrollable) itching. Like the other symptoms, I believe that the itching is a result of the body's immune system reacting to the Cancer. Her symptoms went away during chemotherapy (ABVD)... but, every now and then, she'll feel some faint tingling sensations, kinda like a distal itch.
Avatar f tn With many, many prayers and treatment, he has now been diagnosed as cancer free. (Yes, we are aware that cancer can come back but this is good news in spite of the negative report we first received) SO... if you are a spouse of someone with cancer. It's so scary. I can relate. But what I've learned is there is hope. I'm so greatful to the Lord for healing him! I will pray for you all and pray for anyone who requests prayer. God bless you!
Avatar n tn Thanks Dr. Hook, My girlfriend was told she has the high risk type, and thus she doesn't have any visible warts. An ENT said it was cobblestones and put me on the Nasacort but it seemed like he didn't know much about HPV when I asked him questions and he was surprised the Prednisone didn't do anything. That's why I was concerned regarding the use of a steroid inhaler for a seemingly long time of 4-6 weeks and the fact that they're still there after all these months.
1548207 tn?1303454180 We did a combo of prednisone and methotrexate for 4 months then stepped down off of prednisone and upped the methotrexate. Its a Long term treatment plan and just adjusting as we go. I say do as much research on options as possible, find a doctor or doctors u trust, and find a treatment you want to try and advocate for your own care is my advice. There is no magic cure and not everything works for everyone but there are a few options.
