Avatar f tn The difference between prednisone and prednisolone is that one is the precursor to the other. Prednisone is activated by enzymes in the liver to turn into prednisolone. They do have similar uses but prednisolone is more readily absorbed by the body. Prednisolone is usually used when there is liver toxicity or liver failure involved. There is no great difference between them, other than the above, however ...
Avatar m tn A few years ago, I was put on Prednisone to help with chronic sinus infections. I noticed within 10 days COMPLETE relief from all of my Lyme symptoms (pain, visual disturbances, skin issues and HAIR LOSS). I could see my hair growing back in. I did a search recently that eluded to Prednisone being capable of regrowing hair IF the cause is from an infection. I know Prednisone can regrow hair if the cause is bacterial or fungal... I don't know if it's capable if it's viral?
577603 tn?1217700205 He is always over here looking for something to eat. It is so good to see him feeling better and eating. Good luck to you and I hope they can determine which you have soon.
Avatar n tn Also, for prednisolone and prednisone, the doctor doesn't just"advise" you to taper.
Avatar m tn this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. Prednisolone does not cause or treat seizures, but it can create some severe symptoms and primaryt conditions that can lead to a dog having seizures.
Avatar m tn hello , I had an exposure 11 weeks ago and used prednisolone between weeks 8 to 11 , and after that got a negative ag/ab elisa hiv test . (11 weeks after exposure) . my question is that :as prednisone is an immunosupressant , could it hide my hiv antibodies ? if yes , how about hiv ag ? and is my hiv ag/ab test after 11 weeks (with 3 weeks use prednisolone) accurate ?
Avatar f tn Patients taking prednisone may have falsely increased cortisol levels because prednisone is converted to prednisolone after ingestion, and prednisolone has a 41% cross-reactivity with cortisol. " Is that true for a 5mg dose or just for huge suppressive doses (e.g., 50 mg)? It seems very strange for me to have such a low serum cortisol reading after taking the prednisone. Two immediate family members have a rare form of hypertension - apparent mineralocorticoid excess.
5584541 tn?1371137015 anyone took metformin and prednisolone to help prevent them miscarrying.....I have been on it since trying to conceive now I am 9 weeks pregnant but my doc says he will take me off them at 12 weeks....I had 2 miscarriages both at 7 weeks so I was wondering if anyone else was on it and came off and had a successful pregnancy....
Avatar m tn The above doesn't answer the question. It does say how long the stuff works for, but doesn't indicate how long it is stored in the body. I don't know the answer, it depends on whether any part of the drug is fat soluble, which means some of it could be stored in the liver for quite a while. Doesn't mean you notice it.
446896 tn?1237802742 Hello, I had an allergic reaction to an unknown substance two weeks ago, and was given a taper regime of Prednisone, after my visit to the ER. The first 5 days I took 60mg, the next 5 I took 40mg, and the last 5 days 20 mg. Tomorrow is my last day/pill. This is my first time taking Prednisone and I have had a TERRIBLE experience on this drug!
Avatar n tn For the present episode or for some other problem, how long?sure prednisolone can cause stomach problems.Did not the prescribing doc told you to withdraw in phases?
277836 tn?1359666174 Why should I still be having upset stomach I thought that the prednisone was working but as my dose has tampered down it has seemed to come back everytime I eat its instant please advise if possible. Also should I seek a second opinion???????
665797 tn?1225283365 My husband has suffered with cluster headaches for 12 years, he was prescribed Prednisolone in a high dose then reducing, the headaches would stop. He did this for a few years, but unfortunately he started to have chronic cluster headache for about a year, he tried & tried the prednisolone but this did not work.
1298409 tn?1272846202 s not known if prednisone does actually work and it was up to me if i wanted to take it. I was prescribed 10mg 1x a day. i did get pregnant but miscarried 8 weeks later due to a chromosome abnormality. I have heard of RE's having prednisone as the standard prescription for IVF as well. good luck!
9214378 tn?1408881584 I am very concerned your vet stopped the prednisone suddenly, as this could have caused the dog to become seriously and potentially fatally ill. Prednisilone should never be stopped abruptly. It should be slowly tapered off, generally over several weeks. Hyperadrenocorticism (Cushings Disease) can be caused by an abrupt stoppage of the drug.
1433307 tn?1300339642 I had an acute organ rejection episode and was administered intravenous prednisone to stop the process. I later achieved SVR so, though I suspect that my viral load increased with the prednisone, prednisone did not preclude successful treatment.
7002065 tn?1443073614 m a little depressive from the Prednisolone but this temporarly i guess and improves with reducing dose. Most important is, to stay on as less Prednisolone as possible. The adrenal glands produce about 25mg cortisol per day which equals 5mg Pred. < 5mg / day Pred. is a safe and effective immunosuppressant and i will stay on it as long as i have to! all the best to anyone out here.
1297586 tn?1274105947 The only advice I can give is not to take prednisone. It gave me adrenal fatigue which has taken a year to cure (actually I am not totally cured yet). And - the adrenals interact with the thyroid. You have no idea how awful adrenal fatigue is. At times I could not walk across the room. And I had terrible panic attacks. This reaction to prednisone (or inhaled steroids) is not unusual. Merely devastating.
Avatar m tn Hi, Yes moon face is common to happen with such huge dose of prednisolone and it does come down with reducing dose. Usually with in 2 weeks of stopping the drug there is a slight change, while with in 2 months time noticeable change can be seen. Also, these changes are individual to every patient. Flare ups are common with abrupt discontinuance, but not with proper weaning of prednisolone. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar m tn Prednisone and prednisolone are variations on a theme. The liver turns prednisone into prednisolone. Many docs figure you might as well save a step and prescribe prednisolone.
1716896 tn?1308880762 I had the same thing happen recently, when I was treated for Stevens-Johnson syndrome brought, a reaction to allpurinol. I was given prednisone in very high doses, tapering off gradually, usually over three week period. Each time I tapered down to about 10 MGS, the rashes and itching began. I want to know if the rash will remit on its own, because I've had four short rounds of prednisone already and would prefer to stay away from it if I can. But the itching is fierce!
Avatar n tn By all means use the prednisolone
Avatar m tn So i have taken omnacortil10mg(Prednisolone) and Gabaneuron for the past 45 days only in the night due to some neuropathy problems. I have taken 2 hiv antibody tests after 8th and 12th week. Both are came back negative. I have read that the above mentioned steroids can delay the seroconversion period. So my questions are 1)Is these steroids affect my 12 week HIV test? 2)Do i need further testing?
