is it posible to have gout in the big toe and ankle. I have had gout in my right big toe sevral times but this time my ankle started hurting first and swelling and the next day my big toe started hurting I started taking naproxen 500mg two days went by and it was not doing the trick. I called my Doc. and he done some blood work he said that the uric acid was on the hi side of normal. He started me on Methypred this is my 2nd day of that. Can I take Naproxen with that are not?

I went to the doc 7/7/08, I have gout in left ankle (x-ray confirmed), also have a chest cold (but it is summertime). My new doc said my thyroid is swollen. This is the third time this year it has swollen up, but I was only put on Prednisolone by my ex-doctor (which is why she is no longer my current doc). So this new doc wants me to get an ultrasound on my thyroid to see why it's swollen. My grandmother has hypothyroidism & takes meds for it. I think I just have bad genetics.

this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. I've been told to go on prednisolone for 3 months or so in order to bring down my slightly elevated liver enzymes. I am worried that the prednisolone might react with the oroxine therapy which I am taking daily for my Hashimotos hypothyroidism. I have reoccurance of Gout every time I eat liver, liverwurst, cabage or spinach. I personally do not know about other drugs.

Woke up with bad case of gout. I have not been taking my Allopurinol. If I start it back up today do you think it will help with the gout pain and inflammation? I am taking Ibuprophen and soaking in epsom salts/hot water.

I was recently diagnosed with gout and although I do have pain in my big toe (mainly left, but also some in right), I'm having more trouble with my fingers - they are where the pain is worst and where I've got some tophi. How common/uncommon is it to have gout more in the fingers than the toe? I know it can affect other joints other than teh big toe, but just not sure how common it is and if it makes it any more difficutl to treat?

My daughter had pain in her big toe that moved up to her knee and is now in her hip. My first thought was "gout" but she said her doctor did not mention gout. Her pcp said she thought it might be arthritis and gave her some "Sulindac". She is also taking Flexiril which I have; and buspirone. I am not familiar with "Sulindac" and haven't "googled" it yet, but wondering if anyone had any thoughts about her pain?
