Avatar m tn It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. Prednisolone does not cause or treat seizures, but it can create some severe symptoms and primaryt conditions that can lead to a dog having seizures. Talk to your vet straight away and start a diary of seizure events, describing how and when they happen. This information will be useful to your vet.

577603 tn?1217700205 How many mgs a day? I was on them for weeks started at 40 mgs for 2 wks then tamper down. Yes you will have side effects as the drug gets in your system Acne was my biggest one. Then being hyper then down this will happen also. There are lots of side effects with prednisone it really just depends how long you are on the drug itself.
Avatar f tn I had been in a treatment with prednisone and Methotrexate for one year but the abscess goes away and comes back, so I guess that the medicine is not working in my body, at less not for the GM, b/c is killing me with the side effects. I would like to start think on the mastectomy but i am really confused. yesterday I was on the Dr and actually I have a drain until tomorrow when the Dr will change it.
Avatar m tn Hi Guys, I am newly DX with chrons two weeks ago and have been placed onto Prednisolone 50 mg a day. I was wondering how these drugs worked for other people? Other than the fact that they hav brought my D under control, I am still having really bad stomach pains. How quick did you guys get results with these drugs? Was it long term effects bad on you? I was told that they should work straight away, but no such luck! Since starting them, I have had UTI AND A KIDNEY INFECTION.
Avatar m tn My GP then prescribed Predsol (Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate) drops - one drop three times daily for five days. The list of side effects looks quite scary and so far I havn't used them. The side effects include: "Glaucoma, blurred vision or problems with sight, enlarged pupils, drooping of the upper eyelid, thinning of the cornea or sclera which can lead to perforation.
Avatar f tn I recently had one of my dogs treated for a disc problem in her neck. She was given a decreasing dose of Prednisone to take over 10 days which helped her considerably. Now, my other dog (same size and age) is showing symptoms of the same condition. I want to try the Pred on him but I don't have any left. Instead, I have a large bottle of Prednisolone. If I gave Ruby 40 mg's of PredNISONE, would I now give 40mg of PredNISOLONE? Or would the dose be different?
Avatar n tn Also, for prednisolone and prednisone, the doctor doesn't just"advise" you to taper.

Avatar m tn I dont really want to put her on phenobarbitol, read to many bad side effects. Just found a site called allergicpet.com that has a natural seizure medication thinking about trying it. just wondering if anyone else has used this medication from this site.
Avatar m tn The prescription was a 10 day course and I was not informed of the side effects that I was to suffer. Because of my harried state at the clinic I neglected to ask what those side effects might be. I would know soon enough. I immediately started bloating and gaining weight. My appetite became insatiable. My moods became erratic, I became irritable, and depression set in. From what I've read online I was most likely given a generic form of Prednisolone. It has been awful.
Avatar f tn My 6 yr old boxer is on prednisolone for the past 5 days. 31/2 tablets 2 x/ day for bronchitis. He's panting all the time, drinking lots of water and peeing a whole lot. This morning he has started peeing himself while lying down or sleeping. The pee just runs out. I spoke to my vet and he said to just stop giving him the prednisolone completely. Has anyone else had this peeing while lying down or asleep issue?
Avatar f tn I am worried that the prednisolone might react with the oroxine therapy which I am taking daily for my Hashimotos hypothyroidism. The amount of prednisolone is 25mg per day for 1 week, then 10 mg per day for 2 weeks, then 7.5mg per day for 4 weeks, then 5 mg per day until i see the doctor in 3 months time. The liver doctor has also put me on ursodeoxycholic acid tablets 1 tablet two times a day.
Avatar f tn You can also try other meds. Even over-the-counter dramamine can be used for dogs. Reglan and phenergan are two other considerations. As with any medication, make sure you check with your vet first. Does your dog actually throw up on car trips? Is there a certain amount of time it takes to get really sick or is it immediate? You're doing a great job taking Rocky on short trips to get him used to car travel.
Avatar f tn I have been on Prednisolone eye drops since December 8th 3 times a day for a week than 1 time a day for a week. Avatar m tn The possible side effects scare me. Can I gradually taper off the frequency of these steroids as long as the eye stays clear and comfortable? I saw some recommendations on-line for lowering frequency in 2nd week to 3x per day and 2x per day in 3rd week.

She also was running around with her hackles up and starting fights with my other dogs...She only had 3 or 4 days of it and then I took her off of it this last Sunday was her last dose...She still is not wanting to eat and not 100% back to herself? How long do the side effects last...It was taking me an hour and a half to get her to eat 2 cups of food...
7002065 tn?1443073614 there are people that use the drug for years for RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and there were trials that looked into the side effects of long term administration of low dose corticoid treatment namely Prednisone and Prednisolone, the side effects were minimal.
Avatar n tn In fact I wanted to ask you for what you are on prenisolone for?For the present episode or for some other problem, how long?sure prednisolone can cause stomach problems.Did not the prescribing doc told you to withdraw in phases?
9214378 tn?1408881584 The increased drinking is a marker for prednisolone, as it is a common side effect, however kidney disease can also cause this (as many of us know). With prolonged use, prednisolone can cause both Cushings and/or Diabetes, so it should not be prescribed over a long period. I am very concerned your vet stopped the prednisone suddenly, as this could have caused the dog to become seriously and potentially fatally ill. Prednisilone should never be stopped abruptly.
776872 tn?1247938680 So i was diagnosed yesterday with crohns disease in the small intestine, they have put me onto prednisolone tablets. The tablets are 5mg each but i have to take 30mg a day. I toke them yesterday and today everytime i've been toilet it has still been diaahrea but i don't expect this to get back to 'normal' for atleast a week anyways. i have also been put on calichew d3 which is calcium and vitamin D. Avatar f tn I do not know that this surgery is available yet for dogs, or whether or not there are any canine neurosurgeons who would perform it, but if it does exist, my guess is that it would still be cost-prohibitive for anyone but the wealthiest pet owners or people who have pet health insurance. A change in appetite is a common side effect of phenobarbital. Some dogs eat less and have to be cajoled into eating, others become voracious and can't seem to eat enough.
Avatar n tn Some of the side effects reported vary due to different breeds & several other factors. We have 1 Rottweiler mix male & 2 rescued dogs (German Rottweiler female & American Rottweiler female). German Rotty was approx 2 y/o when rescued. She had her first seizure approx 2 months ago. Scared me to death. A month later she had another so I knew some of the signs before hand. My mixed male & American Rotty female were going crazy when the seizures occurred.
