Avatar f tn I get Adult Croupe quite often. I have the onset now. I take Prednisolone to help. I also have a hiatus hernia. Do these two things go hand in hand? I have had both for about 10 years. Is it likely that I'll have to live with getting Croupe for the rest of my life? This is stopping me from working and being social.
Avatar n tn Normal, high energetic otherwise healthy child (may have had one antibiotic in her 9 years)...comes down with a croup like sickness 8 weeks ago. Normally, her past croup infections have all responded to steroids (although she hasn't had one in 4 years)...this time even on inhaled steroid, prednisolone and eventually decadron..her throat continued to close off...she was bedridden for 10 days with no energy and lost complete use of her voice for 6 days....
Avatar f tn Prednisone is activated by enzymes in the liver to turn into prednisolone. They do have similar uses but prednisolone is more readily absorbed by the body. Prednisolone is usually used when there is liver toxicity or liver failure involved. There is no great difference between them, other than the above, however ... it is normal practice to begin at a low dosage, rising to a level that's appropriate for the weight of the dog.
Avatar m tn Hi i took 30mg of prednisolone for 2 days. how long will the medication be out of my system?
Avatar m tn Few years back, when my mom was washing toilet with acid.. she felt some irritation.. suddenly her one of the eye got reddish.. she went for treatment, and after some days, the eye came back to normal. But now, the same got reddish again, after multiple check up with the eye doctor, she prescribed "Prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension USP" and she used for a week.. now her eyes are 70% ok.
Avatar f tn The next morning at 5am he was gasping for air. When I called the ped. she told that he had croup and to put him under a steam shower for 20 minutes. After about 10-15 minutes the breathing was better. When we went to the docter, he had an ear infection in each ear and sinusitus. She gave him antibiotics. After he took the med. for the 10 days,he still had a bad cough for a long time that wouldn't go away, and he was having coughing fits. When he was rechecked he had bronchitis.
Avatar f tn About 4 weeks ago I got a red itchy rash on my chest. The skin is red with what looks like ives or small bumps. I have used Eurax cream and Bach Rescue cream and Zertec. My doctor prescribed steroids "prednisolone 5MG which I have been on for 6 days now with no improvement. I have attached a photo of the affected area in my profile .
Avatar m tn i may have taken ofloxacin and prednisolone eye drops in my eye 5 times in a day instead of the 4 times like i was supposed to do.will it cause any harm?
1580703 tn?1651904887 The treatment went well and after a while she decided to lower the dosage step by step, it took 2 years for me to walk normally again (July-August 2009), during that time the dosage for prednisolone was 1 per a week. unfortunately the stiffness and swelling on my left ankle came back about 1 year ago and then again the doctors decided to increase the dosage of prednisolone (half 5mg pill 3times a day),and also add Methotrexate to my old prescription.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the comment. I am seeing a feline Neurologist today. I've been doing much research online and just seem to find much higher dosages of these drugs being dispensed for cats with similar problems. My vet seems to be afraid of liver toxicity. My understanding is that if that should happen it would be a distant event and the cat may not have long to go.
Avatar m tn Dogs don't do well on long term steroid treatment. Are you sure it's prednisone/prednisolone that he's taking? What is he taking the steroid for? Did he have seizures BEFORE starting the corticosteroid? How long has he been taking the corticosteroid? These are all important questions before an answer can be attempted.
Avatar n tn Also, for prednisolone and prednisone, the doctor doesn't just"advise" you to taper.
Avatar n tn Hi, My son has just come out of Intensive Care for the second time and has severe croup. I too am looking for answers. He has seen an ENT, cardiologist, respiratory specialist all with no answers. I can't sleep at night for fear of an attack. He is on pulmicort nebs twice a day, Intal forte, nasonex and maybe singulair if decided by drs this week. Any advice would be so welcomed.
Avatar f tn I had croup when I was 15. At the time I had undiagnosed autoimmune pernicious anaemia (vitamin B12 is essential for a healthy immune system). "Teens who have not developed antibodies to the viruses that cause croup and those whose immune systems are compromised can develop viral croup." - Livestrong - Croup in teens.
Avatar n tn My now 16yr old had her first round of croup at 8 weeks old and turned blue in her crib and her first diagnosed asthma at age 18mos ... so you have come to the right place for "Mom" experience with croup. She had croup no less than 6-8X a year and now looking back at her history (she is documented asthmatic) she was probably having RAD or asthma going on which was misdiagnosed as croup or was croup along with the asthma. She was on nebulizerr, etc.
Avatar m tn It was prescribed for me after cataract surgery along with prednisolone (a corticosteroid). My dosage of both was 4x per day for the first postoperative week, 3x per day for the second, 2x per day for the third, and once a day at bedtime for the fourth week. Since Nevanac is an NSAID, I think of it as "ibuprofin for the eyes". I had no difficulties with it.
Avatar n tn Nobody can explain why she gets it so much. She has never had any other illness or infection besides the croup. Never even rotovirus, only croup. A couple (2-3) times it has turned into pneumonia. The pediatric ENT did a bronchoscopy on her and it was perfectly normal. Now I have appointments with a pediatric pulmonologist and an immunologist. She has had allergy testing and is no allergies to anything.
Avatar f tn My 3 yr.old woke up this morning with croup! :/ I'm not afraid of catching a cold or anything that's a part of life but I'm 22 weeks pregnant and haven't ever dealt with croup let alone while pregnant. What are the chances of catching it myself and how will that affect my unborn baby???
Avatar f tn I am worried that the prednisolone might react with the oroxine therapy which I am taking daily for my Hashimotos hypothyroidism. The amount of prednisolone is 25mg per day for 1 week, then 10 mg per day for 2 weeks, then 7.5mg per day for 4 weeks, then 5 mg per day until i see the doctor in 3 months time. The liver doctor has also put me on ursodeoxycholic acid tablets 1 tablet two times a day.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed prednisolone eye drops with a tapering dose over a week or so. This seemed to take care of the issue. However, a couple of weeks later and after going off of the eye drops as prescribed, my eye flared up with the same symptoms. The doctor recommended the same treatment. The eye once again improved. 1 week after the second incident, I was nearly tapered entirely off of the eye drops. However, my top eyelid became quite swollen and painful.
17344032 tn?1455826300 Would it be safe to give my dog Flucloxacillin the human antibiotic and if so, what would the dosage be for my 7.
Avatar n tn We went to the ER 2 weeks ago and followed up with his md who gave him prednisone for 4 days to help with the inflamed airways for his croup, but it also lowers the immune system which is why we had to wait another week to get his vaccinations. He had an elevated body temperature last night, but it was 100.9 rectally so I wasn't too concerned. Last night and tonight he seems fussier than normal and just looks like he isn't feeling well.
776872 tn?1247938680 So i was diagnosed yesterday with crohns disease in the small intestine, they have put me onto prednisolone tablets. The tablets are 5mg each but i have to take 30mg a day. I toke them yesterday and today everytime i've been toilet it has still been diaahrea but i don't expect this to get back to 'normal' for atleast a week anyways. i have also been put on calichew d3 which is calcium and vitamin D. Have you been on prednisolone if so.has it worked did you have side effects.
Avatar n tn ve had bronchitis and only took prednisone for a small amount of time. The best treatment for me turned out to be switching from Flovent 110, my normal dosage, to 220 whenever I felt a cold coming on. If it did progress to get worse, then I would take Foradil (which really helped improve my night time lung function but typically isn't for a short-term treatment) in addition to whatever bronch medication they gave me and lot's of heavy duty cough syrup.
Avatar n tn ve noticed this happen after illness also. He suffers with Croup and takes prednisolone for 3 days when he gets it. He doesnt eat anything spicy or any food that would upset his bowels. I am 99% sure it is skin...which looks like bowel lining or something. The first time he got it I took him to the doctors, who sent some of his poo away to be tested. Everything came back normal and nothing more was done and they put it down to toddler diarrhea.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your answer. Is 4x per day for 3 weeks so standard? I never had any eye pain or irritation, and by now most of the redness is gone. I was worried about side effects that might be permanent. I guess I'll have to trust the surgeon and follow orders.
