Avatar f tn I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks. My total cholesterol dropped from 225 to 152, but what seriously concerns me is that my HDL dropped from 54 to 2 mg/dL!!! I just go the news last night and my doctor didn't seem overly concerned. He said I could go off the pravastatin and see how my numbers were with diet and exercise alone. I have been on a good routine with proper diet and regular exercise and I am at the low end of my healthy weight.
179856 tn?1333547362 Because statin hepatotoxicity is thought to be dose related, the investigators also used a high therapeutic dose of pravastatin (80 mg/d). The study cohort was large and the follow-up period of 36 weeks was reasonably long enough to detect most episodes of statin-induced liver injury. Ultimately, there are some questions that remain unanswered.

1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.

Avatar f tn Imagine believing that you are given a drug thinking it will make you better and you start complaining of all of these symtoms only to be told over and over again it is nothing and you end up fighting for you very life. Wouldn't you be pissed off if you found out the drug companies knew all along that this was happening and a heck of alot more than they told anyone. Sounds alot like "Vioxx" right? They lied big time over that!!
Avatar f tn Hello I have been taking generic Crestor for about two years. It has dropped my LDL to 39-45 range and blood glucose ranges from 105-111 fasting. A1c 5.1 - 5.3. Prior to the statin I was below 100. I am not overweight, exercise consistently and eat very healthy. So the statin is the culprit. I am wondering if being stricter on carb intake and supplementing with Berberine will help? Or has anyone had better outcomes with other statins like livalo or pravastatin?
Avatar f tn I have a bladder infection, I think. So I called my Dr and told him what was going on. He prescribed Septra generic DS. It made me so sick that I called him back and asked what to do and he said it would be alright to take a half pill twice a day instead of a whole one. This is the second time I've had a bladder infection in two months. The first time was when I was in the hospital. No catheter was used. They sent me home with a script for Septra and it cleared up with in 5 days.
Avatar f tn However, for some patients, it may take up to 2 months for symptom resolution. If you are still having horrible pain, it may not be a good idea for you to restart statin, especially after 2 trials of different agents, unless the benefit outweighs the risk. Also, it is very important for you and your physician to determine if the myalgia is truly due to the statins. Please note: patients with hypothyroidism may also complaint of myalgia, independent of statins.

Avatar m tn Please talk with your doctor before changing any does level for prescriptions. There can be troublesome withdrawal affects for some meds, including those used to lower blood pressure - beta blockers come to mind, and I don't seem to have withdrawal symptoms as I have moved up/down the dose level with advice from my cardiologist. Unfortunately blood pressure meds often (maybe always) have side effects.
