Pravastatin to simvastatin

Common Questions and Answers about Pravastatin to simvastatin

pravachol

Avatar f tn Both simvastatin and pravastatin have the same side effect profile, but it does depend on the individual as to whether one would cause more issues than the other." The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage. Most doctors have backed off of the 80 mg dosage as a result.
Avatar m tn s production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects. I also wouldn't mind getting more than a few hours of sleep per night. That said, am I taking a risk by switching statins after three decades? I haven't been able to find any significant and update research that covers this situations. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Have you discussed this with your doctor? I was changed to Pravastatin recently. You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar f tn i dont understand cholesterol issues, but anyways one of my numbers was low(im thinking good cholesterol)not sure though it was 35...one was ok...maybe it was the combination but he put me on simvastatin..im scared to take it.im on meds for thyroid and hormones, plus on a antibotic right now.......can any one tell me anything about this med?
Avatar n tn Thanks for the post, good info. Doctor wants to put me on either tri-cor, trilipix, or antara in addition to the simvastatin. Need to call my insurance to see what co-pays would be. I've really changed my diet and without taking supplements or vitamins I don't think I would be able to do much more as far as diet. I've cut fast food to maybe once a month and I watch what I eat there, no cheese or mayo on anything. Always use wheat bread and rarely eat beef.
Avatar m tn If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem. You should speak to your doctor.
Avatar f tn Lisinipril is $4/month and $10 for 90 days at WalMart and many other pharmacies that have the $4 precription plan. You pay out of pocket. Simvastatin isn't on that list, but lovastatin and pravastatin are, if your doctor feels like you could try substituting one of those. Metoprolol isn't on the $4/month plan, but atenolol is. Again, maybe your doctor would be okay with changing you from metoprolol to atenolol. It's worth talking to the doc about.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn I was told to stop Simvastatin until everything clears up...then we try something else.

Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
Avatar f tn 7 In this study, 522 patients with a history of myocardial infarction or unstable angina and with baseline levels of total cholesterol between 4 to 7 mM ( average to below average values) were randomized to treatment with a low fat diet plus pravastatin (40 mg daily) or to a low fat diet plus placebo. The Primary study outcome was the change from baseline in Carotid Wall Thickness after 2 and 4 years of follow up.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar f tn In most cases side effects can be managed with changes to dosage. Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if the medicine Pravastatin (for high cholesterol) can cause your sugar to go up? I had quit taking it for about 2 weeks and my sugar which is usually high came down to 90-120, when I started taking it again my sugar went back up to 180-230.
Avatar n tn In which case you may need to continue with this dosage. Pravastatin is generally well tolerated; adverse reactions are usually mild. Some common side effects of pravastatin include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and abnormal liver tests. So, if you experience e any of these effects, you can consult your doctor for dose alteration. Regards.
Avatar f tn I ordered an elliptical today to increase my aerobic activity, as I often skip the walks due to bad weather. I have decided not to take the Pravastatin - although I will discuss this with my doctor. But my ratio was better with a total of 225 to an HDL of 54 then it is to have a total of 152 to 2. Any thoughts, comments or advice would be welcome. I am pretty laid back, but this is freaking me out!
Avatar m tn I have recently had a cath. The doctor doing the cath said "everything here is clear, you're fine". The cardiologist I'm seeing said the cath showed a 30% blockage. I'm still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s). At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Is there any danger to take Ambien together with Pravastatin? I really very desperately need to sleep through the night... Thanks so much for your help!

Avatar f tn Do you feel adding Lipofen is the best course of treatment? I would like to trying increasing my Simvastatin dose to 20 mg instead to see if that helps. Thank you.
Avatar m tn however, it is worth it if you have side effects. My side effects range from crawly skin to coughs to aching muscles. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
