Avatar f tn I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.

Avatar n tn In early September, I was prescribed a statin for the first time, 40 mg of Pravastatin, to be taken at night. After 2 weeks, I started having muscle pain/weakness in my legs but for the first time in my life had very odd heart palpatations after lying down in bed for about 10 minutes when I was first trying to sleep. I stopped taking the Pravastatin after about 1 month.

179856 tn?1333547362 Pfeffer et al, in the prospective pravastatin pooling project, observed that 0.5% of the patients who received 40 mg of pravastatin had ALT levels >5 times ULN and 0.2% had ALT levels >9 times ULN (Circulation 2002;105:2341–2346). Interestingly, during several statin trials, investigators observed similar incidence of increased liver enzymes in patients receiving placebo.
Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
3539331 tn?1347554407 It is an injection of additional Cholesterol medication to the Pravastatin 40 mg I am taking now. I could get a plazebo or the real thing. So my question is..... Should I participate in this study even though I am not sure my palpitations have developed in something more serious? I do need the money and I am already on Pravastatin 40mg. I was hoping I would get an appointment with my doctor right away but couldn't. Thanks for reading.
Avatar m tn BP is 120/68, resting pulse =55, total cholesterol 181 (40 mg of pravastatin nightly); HDL 55 (ratio is 3.3), Triglycerides - 79mg/dl, and ldl 110 mg/dl I ride my bike 3x/week about 75-100 miles/week. No family history with parents, but grandfather died in 1964 of heart attack at age 65 (most likely no medications on board for him). Had a stress test about 3 years ago that was uneventful. This weekend I went on a 110 mile ride - 2 days. First day 55 miles and slept in tent.
Avatar f tn The effects of atorvastatin 80 mg/d and pravastatin 40 mg/d on CIMT were compared. Baseline CIMT and other characteristics were similar in both groups. After 12 months of follow up it was found that the LDL-C was around 76 +/- 23 and 110 +/- 30 mg/dl in the atorvastatin and pravastatin group respectively. There was a regression in the CIMT of –0.034+/-0.021 mm in the atorvastatin group whereas the CIMT remained stable in the pravastatin group.
Avatar m tn I was taking 100 mg of atenolol when it went to 132. My doctor changed me to 50 mg a day since my b/p is much better now. Did this affect my sodium or do I just need to eat more salt?
Avatar f tn Sodium restriction is 2000 mg per day. Never add salt to food. Read labels. Most processed food have too much sodium. Restaurant food is full of sodium. Eat fresh food. Lots of vegetables, fruits etc. Diuretic therapy is added if sodium restriction isn't tatoally affective. For cirrhotic ascites is the combined use of spironolactone (Aldactone) and furosemide (Lasix). Beginning dosages are 100 mg of spironolactone and 40 mg of furosemide by mouth daily.

1711722 tn?1356487554 Hey Karen. I threw out the container but I think it said only 40 for sodium. I have to watch that too, so I checked before I bought it. Oh wait, I just looked it up: “Research has found that natural coconut water hydrates as effectively as the leading sports drink, with significantly lower sodium (30 mg/8.5 ounces vs. 110 mg/8 ounces), fewer calories, less sugar, and much more potassium,” said Dr.
