Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.
Avatar n tn adverse reactions are usually mild. Some common side effects of pravastatin include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and abnormal liver tests. So, if you experience e any of these effects, you can consult your doctor for dose alteration. Regards.
Avatar m tn ) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease). Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects.
Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
Avatar n tn He stated new tests show that statins, especially prevastatin is causing some, and in my case irreversible muscle damage and waste. These side effects we are experiencing are also those of MS patients with lesion 2 expansion in spinal cord vertabrae. I will keep you posted on next Tuesday blood test. But he is good doctor, I trust him, and I see his concern on his face....stop taking it!!
Avatar f tn I have to assume you are on statins (cholesterol lowering medication). Statin drugs are often associated with side-effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10. If you aren't taking CoQ10, start immediately.
225237 tn?1333138999 This is a simple statin, it is very safe with a risk of side effects between 2% and 4% depending who you listen too and only .02% of serious side effects. These numbers make this a very safe drug. Look here for more; "Pravastatin is generally well tolerated; adverse reactions have usually been mild and transient. In 4 month-long placebo-controlled trials, 1.7% of Pravastatin-treated patients and 1.

Avatar m tn When you take a drug and have an unexplained symptom/s, look at the side effects. It is common to be taking one or more prescription drug due to the side effects of the original drug. The newest warning out for PPI's such as Nexium is magnesium deficiency.
Avatar n tn t treat these until they get over 150. Your doctor has weighed the risk of side effects to the benefit of your treatment and made this decision. I would not be too concerned about enzymes that high, I have seen these well over 300 and as I said, doctors don't usually give it a second thought until it spikes over 150.
Avatar f tn My dad, for example, it taking only one fourth of the low dose of Lipitor and it is working great at bringing his LDL down to 79. Muscle pain is the side effect of statins, but in a smaller lower dose you may not have the pain and it still may work for you. You may also want to take a look at your diet. Red meat, for example, raises LDL levels. I lowered my LDL from approximately 130 to 79 by eliminating red meat for one year (it has now been 13 years since I had beef).
Avatar m tn One can not rule out a chest-pain heart event, but the pain can be the result uncontrolled contraction of the chest muscle. It can produce intense pain and muscle cramps can develop in any muscle in the body although they most often occur in the calf or foot. Muscle cramps usually happen while lying in bed or playing sports or exercising. Overuse, injury, muscle strain, or staying in the same position for a long time can produce cramping.
Avatar m tn Yes, I've only been on it a week and I experience the muscle aches and bilateral flank pain as well. In addition, insomnia!
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar n tn After 2 weeks, I started having muscle pain/weakness in my legs but for the first time in my life had very odd heart palpatations after lying down in bed for about 10 minutes when I was first trying to sleep. I stopped taking the Pravastatin after about 1 month. I've been off of it now for about 3 weeks and am still having the palpitations but only after lying down in bed when I try to go to sleep. I've never experienced anyt type of heart palpitations befroe.
Avatar f tn ve stopped taking methimazole 12 days ago because of the strong side effects (hives, joint/muscle pain, dry throat). Though these effects are lessening, I wonder how long it might take for them to be completely gone.
Avatar f tn However, about 3 days ago I started having really bad muscle pain, burning, and aches in my legs. My muscles all over my body will twitch when I am trying to go to sleep. This is really the only w/d symptom I have but why did it just start? Or is this a side effect from the sub?

Avatar f tn Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity. Myopathy manifested as muscle pain and/or weakness associated with grossly elevated creatine kinase exceeding ten times the upper limit of normal has been reported occasionally. Rhabdomyolysis has also occurred rarely, which may be accompanied by acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria and may result in death.
Avatar n tn How long after taking gabapentin will the side effects last. I have hair loss. I stopped taking gabapentin about four or five months ago.
Avatar n tn Pravastatin works a little differently than Simvastatin so you may be fine, plus as you said you are on a very low dose which will help. I'm sure your doctor has already told you, but in case he did not, most side effects happen within the first 90 days. Mild side effects can start within a few days such as muscle pain, which is the most common.
