Pravastatin muscle pain

Common Questions and Answers about Pravastatin muscle pain

pravachol

Avatar f tn Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness. Both simvastatin and pravastatin have the same side effect profile, but it does depend on the individual as to whether one would cause more issues than the other." The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.
Avatar n tn Some common side effects of pravastatin include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and abnormal liver tests. So, if you experience e any of these effects, you can consult your doctor for dose alteration. Regards.
1817071 tn?1366228243 So, you may not have developed muscle aches with lovastatin and are experiencing it with pravastatin. Also, you may develop muscle aches after any number of years/months/weeks on a statin. You could go back to lovastatin if the HDL numbers achieved are the same. However, you may experience muscle ache with lovastatin too. However, you may also not have muscle aches as you responded well to it. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
Avatar n tn After 2 weeks, I started having muscle pain/weakness in my legs but for the first time in my life had very odd heart palpatations after lying down in bed for about 10 minutes when I was first trying to sleep. I stopped taking the Pravastatin after about 1 month. I've been off of it now for about 3 weeks and am still having the palpitations but only after lying down in bed when I try to go to sleep. I've never experienced anyt type of heart palpitations befroe.
Avatar m tn I have been having a constant chest pounding and pain radiating all over my left and right breast area, all tests done proved negative for heart condition but the pain rather than decreasing, seem to be increasing in intensity. I am on LISINOPRIL-HCTZ 20-25MG and BYSTOLIC for HBP I am also on PRAVASTATIN for Cholesterol. I recently had to stop the Bystolic because my heart rate was low between 45-62.
Avatar m tn ) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease). Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects.
Avatar m tn One can not rule out a chest-pain heart event, but the pain can be the result uncontrolled contraction of the chest muscle. It can produce intense pain and muscle cramps can develop in any muscle in the body although they most often occur in the calf or foot. Muscle cramps usually happen while lying in bed or playing sports or exercising. Overuse, injury, muscle strain, or staying in the same position for a long time can produce cramping.
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.

Avatar f tn Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity. Myopathy manifested as muscle pain and/or weakness associated with grossly elevated creatine kinase exceeding ten times the upper limit of normal has been reported occasionally. Rhabdomyolysis has also occurred rarely, which may be accompanied by acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria and may result in death.
Avatar f tn Chronic headache, neck and shoulder pain, ear aches, very weak and fatiqued. a dry course cough, no phlem, no fever even though I feel aching and stiffness all over, sometimes even my skin hurts. all my labs came back normal except for elevated cholesterol, c-reactive protein sl elevated, and liver panel barely elevated. I was started and pravastatin 4 weeks ago and my symptoms seem worse.
1688079 tn?1305854113 The Hospitalist put me on metoprolol 25mg every 12hrs and pravastatin 10mg once a day. Put me on a cardio diet.  What does all this mean and why am I on a beta blocker??
Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old, female. I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.
Avatar m tn m still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s). At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol. To try to make sure I get enough protein, I am using a protein drink (10-14 gr protein each). I drink 1-2 of these per day.

1806721 tn?1554333407 I started taking Pravastatin 20mg/d since one month ago. It wakes me up every night at 3 or 4am with body aches. My doctor did a blood test and my liver/kidney is ok, so he wants me to try to stay on statin. My question is: Is there any danger to take Ambien together with Pravastatin? I really very desperately need to sleep through the night... Thanks so much for your help!
Avatar n tn I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
Avatar m tn Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
Avatar m tn t take it very long because it made me feel sick so the doctor switched me to Pravastatin. I soon switched doctors because he was making me uncomfortable with the things he was saying and my new doctor did a liver enzyme test. It came back elevated so she took me off of the Pravastatin to see if my enzymes would improve. They did start to level out and she even said that my cholesterol had also dropped down to 150. This made me very happy and I continued to exercise and eat healthy.
Avatar n tn However I have to take a low dose of Pravastatin due to the side affects I get for muscle pain. I have notice a strong odor in my urine for awhile now and can not figure out why.. I drink plenty of water..
Avatar n tn My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?
179856 tn?1333547362 Pfeffer et al, in the prospective pravastatin pooling project, observed that 0.5% of the patients who received 40 mg of pravastatin had ALT levels >5 times ULN and 0.2% had ALT levels >9 times ULN (Circulation 2002;105:2341–2346). Interestingly, during several statin trials, investigators observed similar incidence of increased liver enzymes in patients receiving placebo.
Avatar m tn I take Pravastatin, and my liver Enzymes GGT are high, but ALT and AST are in normal range, not sure why, I have heard different answers some doctors ar concern and others are not
Avatar m tn old and since last summer I have been waking up in the morning with joint pain. My elbow joints, hip, and knee joints are all painful. 1383782 tn?1279392573 So I am on a lot of different pain killers (vicoden, percocet and oxycotten), never combined, but my pain fluctuates and I take what I need. I am on the pain meds for an injury to my hand that got infected and I ended up having a Proximal Row Carpectomy (removal of a row of bones out of the wrist). This has been a LONG process and that was not my only surgery just the most current.
