Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old, female. I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.
Avatar n tn Have you discussed this with your doctor? I was changed to Pravastatin recently. You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.

1806721 tn?1554333407 My doctor has put me on generic pravastatin 20mg. A few days after I started the drug, I had a fever with flu-like symptom, and when that went away in a few days, I have been having hip/knee pains and fatigue that gets worse over the course of 2 weeks. My question is: Could these symptoms be related with pravastatin? Will these symptoms go away after a while?
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar m tn 59 yo white male. 1 year post MI with two stents in my RCA. I am active and with high a normal BMI of 25 No problem walking a fast mile or with light exercise. My LVEF was 50% right after MI and 45% 2 months later. due for another echo in 2 months. my lipids are under control - LDL < 70 and TC < 140, with or without the 10 mg pravastatin I am prescribed as I eat mostly a quality plant based diet, low in fats and simple carbs.. My question has to do with drugs.
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
Avatar f tn They are also available in commercially prepared products such as margarine (Promise Active™ and Benecol), orange juice (Minute Maid Premium Heart Wise), rice milk (Rice Dream Heart Wise™), as well as dietary supplements (Benecol SoftGels and Cholest-Off). The margarines cost about five times what ordinary margarines cost.
Avatar n tn my husband has only 10 percnt of his heart working and need a heart transplant...
Avatar m tn t take it very long because it made me feel sick so the doctor switched me to Pravastatin. I soon switched doctors because he was making me uncomfortable with the things he was saying and my new doctor did a liver enzyme test. It came back elevated so she took me off of the Pravastatin to see if my enzymes would improve. They did start to level out and she even said that my cholesterol had also dropped down to 150. This made me very happy and I continued to exercise and eat healthy.
Avatar f tn There is no reason that you should have to suffer the same fate. Are you being cared for my a heart failure cardiologist who specializes in heart transplantation? If not, you need to see one. I'm not saying that you need a transplant today but you likely will. And it is what will allow you to become old, gray, and with achy joints! Do you have low blood pressure and dizziness? If not, you should try to get the doses of your medications increased.
Avatar m tn I am on LISINOPRIL-HCTZ 20-25MG and BYSTOLIC for HBP I am also on PRAVASTATIN for Cholesterol. I recently had to stop the Bystolic because my heart rate was low between 45-62. Avatar f tn I JUST FOUND OUT MY STEP DAUGHTER MAY NEED A HEART TRANSPLANT. SHE IS 36 YEARS OLD. SHE WAS JUST IN THE HOSPITAL LAST MONTH, AND IS NOW BACK. SHE HAS HAD YEARS OF DRUG ABUSE AND SHE HAS HEPITUS C. THEY SAY ONLY 15% OF THE HEART IS WORKING. SHE'S NOT IN ICU. SOUNDS ALITTLE STRANGE TO ME. SHE'S NOT AN HONEST PERSON AND DOES NOT GET ALONG WITH HER FAMILY. SHE'S HAD MENTAL PROBLEMS AS WELL. MY BOSS HAD A TRANSPLANT HER IN DALLAS A YEAR AGO. DOING GREAT.
Avatar f tn did anyone have a transplant and get better? and does the medications you take for your heart transplant make you very sick?

Is there a site where I can go to see what test they will be doing, what they are testing for, and if he is a canidate, what steps to expect pre surgery, post surgery and recovering at home.

Avatar m tn A 6-month prospective observational study was conducted with 84 CAD patients receiving pravastatin treatment in order to evaluate the relationship between lifestyle modification, in particular aerobic exercise, and plaque volume as assessed by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). Lifestyle during the study period was assessed by the-lifestyle modification score. A significant decrease in plaque volume by 12.9% was observed after 6 months of pravastatin therapy (P<0.0001 vs baseline).
