Avatar n tn t treat these until they get over 150. Your doctor has weighed the risk of side effects to the benefit of your treatment and made this decision. I would not be too concerned about enzymes that high, I have seen these well over 300 and as I said, doctors don't usually give it a second thought until it spikes over 150.
Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
Avatar f tn Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.

Avatar m tn t had any recent change in your medications, it is highly unlikely that these symptoms are side effects of your meds. It is also very unlikely your heart or lungs are causing the symptoms. If you are noticing progressive changes in your swallowing and persistent tinnitus, you should consider other conditions such as thyroid disease, autoimmune diseases, vitamin deficiencies, or neurologic conditions. Please discuss these symptoms with your physician so appropriate workup can be initiated.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.
572651 tn?1530999357 Dizziness is a fairly common adverse reaction listed for many medications including Furosemide, Diovan, Pravastatin, and Carvediolol. So it seems he is experiencing known side effects for these drugs, but not because they are interacting with each other.
Avatar n tn Cholesterol lowering drugs have a very long list of possible side effects. One side effect I found mentioned breathing issues... "A 53-year-old man who has a history of hypercholesterolemia with elevated triglycerides and LDL has been tried on different statins to bring down his LDL. He developed musculoskeletal pain even though his creatine kinase was normal. While on pravastatin, he developed shortness of breath, which resolved when the medication was stopped.
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar f tn I have to assume you are on statins (cholesterol lowering medication). Statin drugs are often associated with side-effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10. If you aren't taking CoQ10, start immediately.
Avatar n tn nt mean it can not be a side effect. You can ask your Dr or pharmacist if this is a possible side effect. This is a cholesterol lowering med. Are you on any other meds?
Avatar m tn I am a 62 year-old male who has been taking simvastatin for about 30 years. All of my cholesterol-related numbers are in a healthy range, and I have never experienced any serious side effects (e.g., muscle weakness, kidney and liver impairment, etc.). I have, however, had trouble sleeping for the past several years (perhaps caused by simvastatin, perhaps not). More importantly, I have been experiencing back pain for the past few months and would like to try CBD.
Avatar n tn I am now on Pravastatin 10mg. Hope I do not have side effects from this one. I am starting at a low dose, and if I can adjust to it, I can always go up on the mg's in the future. My numbers will be rechecked in December.
Avatar f tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/statin-side-effects/art-20046013 I would talk to your doctor about the best course of action. If supplementation will help, medication or a switch in statin.
Avatar f tn Do the new drugs come with their own side effects besides the ones that soc come with? Not sure if I asked that right, I'm still waiting for everything to come together but if the new meds come with even worse side effects than one might already get maybe that's another reason to treat now.
647330 tn?1232815819 I have checked every med I take against the use of one or two drinks on Christmas and they say it will enhance the effects but none say it will kill me. Clonidine, Metoprolol, Pravastatin, Lorazepam, Prilosec and Prednisone and Methimazole. Please respond if you have had adverse effects from such a small amount of alcohol with these drugs.
Avatar m tn Millions of people have taken SIM safely. While there are rare adverse effects, these sideeffects are well delineated. Moreover, it is even possible that SIM may become useful in the treatment of portal hypertension. Abraldes et al have extensively investigated SIM as an agent to treat portal hypertension (Zafra et al., 2004). They recently reported a 30-day double-blind randomized controlled trial using 20 – 40 mg/day of SIM.
3539331 tn?1347554407 m not sure if they are giving you an experimental medication or one that is already on the market. Experimental medications can cause new and unknown side effects. You may want to wait until you have sorted out all the other issues you are currently dealing with, particularly if you find that you are sensitive to side effects of medications. That way you are not complicating the picture with additional symptoms. Hope this helps!
18663 tn?1198171815 There are many medications that are ototoxic to our ears causing hearing loss and tinnitus, some have permanent effects while others have side effects only while taking the medication. On your particular list, Asprin stands out the most. Asprin does cause hearing los & tinnitus as do most of the NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). As far as the your other medications, I would consult your physician to learn more about the side effects of those particular medications.
Avatar m tn OH yes one more question Back in 199 was put on a statin and got cramps, and pain that would radiate up the right side and across a hold the bottom of the rib cage. So they took me off that statin put me on another same thing, this went on for 11 years different ones over and over again with the same thing. at the end was told to go on this new one back in 2009 the cramps did not happen but the pain up the side and along the lower rib cage continued.
Avatar m tn Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
Avatar f tn Unless you have experienced the full brunt of side effects from statins, you can not state "just stick it out". The side effects are unbearable. I finally asked my doctor if it was really healthier that i went from someone who worked out at the gym 5 days a week to someone gobbling pain medicine and laying on the couch. I had no life on the meds and so, I opted to take the risk.

Avatar m tn 28, 2012 -- Memory loss, confusion, high blood sugar, and type 2 diabetes are possible side effects of the popular cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins, the FDA warns. Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
