Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Avatar m tn Up to 40 percent of their patients either stop taking them or they refuse to take them in the first place! I’m not surprised. Statins carry a host of side effects, including gastrointestinal problems, headache, dizziness, fatigue, rash and sleep disturbances. More serious side effects include muscle weakness, myopathy, nerve damage, liver damage and rhabdomyolysis – the breakdown of muscle tissue that can lead to potentially fatal kidney failure.
Avatar n tn He left some samples at the front desk, with instructions to take one at night before going to bed. I read over the literature provided with the sample. I guess I saw "thrombocytopenia" but I really didn't know what it meant. After taking the medicine for several days, I noticed that I had some bruises, but couldn't remember injuring myself. However, since I work in a machine shop and am somewhat of a klutz, I thought I had just whacked myself and didn't remember.
Avatar n tn I am very active in running and watch my diet closely.. However I have to take a low dose of pravastatin due to the side affects I get for muscle pain. I have notice a strong odor in my urine for awhile now and can not figure out why.. I drink plenty of water..
Avatar n tn I can't remember how long I was on these medications, but I know that I had to stop statins in general, because my body just will not tolerate them. I continued to take Tricor for quite some time. Tricor carries the very same precautions as do statins.
Avatar f tn It made me so sick that I called him back and asked what to do and he said it would be alright to take a half pill twice a day instead of a whole one. This is the second time I've had a bladder infection in two months. The first time was when I was in the hospital. No catheter was used. They sent me home with a script for Septra and it cleared up with in 5 days. This time I'm on day 7 and I'm still having some pain and urgency.
Avatar n tn monitors the amount and which medicine I will take when. He tries to change it around to see which medicines work best together. So far it has not been successful. It has definitely gotten better since a year and a half ago, but a long way from being well. Needless to say, I'm confined to the house a lot. In answer to an earlier question, I'm 52 this year. Thanks so much for everyone's input.
Avatar f tn She was on 75mg since 2002 and we have noticed a reduction in the amount of Maxalt she needs to take since that time. At her last visit, her Neurologist recommended progressing to 100mg daily. So after eight years she will do so. It seems to have had a positive effect so far in reducing the number of migraines. But one migraine is to many in my opinion. It will be important for you to find what your triggers are.
Avatar n tn About a month later found my liver enzymes extremely high. pravastatin withdrawn. Three months later prior to bypass surgery, liver enzymes found to be still extremely high. Tests revealed I was contaminated with Hep C virus. Hospital refuses to give details of blood transfused as details lost. Hosp claim that I was a Hep C carrier (where virus was dormant) and the pravastatin triggered the Hep C virus to become active. Is this possible? has there been cases of this happening?
Avatar f tn Doc increased my thyroid meds from .100 to .125 mcg. He also prescribed pravastatin 20 mg for the cholestrol. After reading about hypothyroidism i saw that it can cause elevated cholestrol levels. Is this true and is it safe to increase my thyroid meds and start the cholestrol meds at the same time? I am crrently looking for a endo doctor because my doctor i seems to know very little about my thyroid issue. Please help!
544292 tn?1268886268 I sure hope you are all having a nice Holiday. Welcome to the room those who are new. Thank you so much for finding us. I know you can do this!
1128331 tn?1259946848 Computer usage at night they do say is not the best thing right before you go to bed. That's because it is stimulating to your eyes and brain and doesn't invite a restful state. But I've never heard of it causing a faint. Did they check your potassium level (low levels can cause muscle cramps)? Does it feel warmer to the touch than the skin around it where the cramp is (don't massage if this is the case, but make sure you don't have a clot on your leg).
Avatar n tn I'd certainly take note of the high numbers. In my case, I'm challenged to keep my LDL numbers below 75, and my HDL levels above 50, and no less than a 3:1 ratio. I'm a veteran of the cholesterol battle. You sound in good shape, congratulations for walking like you do. I resisted taking statins when I had numbers like you have, it was a wrong decision. In my case, familial cholesterol issues were an issue, so I take Vytorin, which controls both dietary and familial cholesterol.
Avatar n tn And also, the pravastatin that I take was originally given to me to help with the vascular problems, not because my cholesteral was high. I never, before now anyway, have had a high cholesteral level. I've also now had a severe headache for the last 3 days, and I keep getting a really sharp stabbing pain that runs from my left chest area straight down toward the left side of my abdomen (right next to my belly button).....I get it with every heart beat.
1982889 tn?1326395442 I'm a 52-year-old female, athletic, though maybe 20 pounds overweight, and my cholesterol medicine was recently doubled to 40mg pravastatin. This is the only medicine I take. I don't smoke or drink. I eat and sleep well-- maybe a little too well. There is no heart disease on either side of the family. I have pneumonia, and the doctor threw Levaquin at it [Levofloxacin]. The 3rd dose of 10 left me with shortness- of- breath.
535089 tn?1400677119 It seems that many members are often having "bad" drug screens so again, here is some information on why your Test may be wrong. Medications & Substances Causing False Positives According to a report by the Los Angeles times New Service, a study of 161 prescription and over the counter medications showed that 65 of them produced false positive results in the most widely administered urine test.
Avatar m tn is there a medication that might help..that I could take with current medicine..and would I have to take everyday..or just when performing?...I feel like it's mostly in my mind..I try to tell've done this 1000's and 1000's of much more important situations..TV appearances and big venues why worry about's not fear of not doing's the fear of the panic attack itself..usually if I get a few good laughs right''ll disipate..
343765 tn?1202526132 But I seem to recall it did take a few days to be effective and I think after about a year I had to up it to 200mg/day. I now have about 200 to 500/day but it is much better than 28,000! Hope it works for you too. Try it at night if you can.
Avatar n tn Uh, I meant NOW regulated at 250mcg. of levothroid. Sorry, and thanks for all the support, I so appreciate it. I tend to get really frustrated lately. I cannot seem to get myself motivated, and my body functioning properly still. I have been having difficulties getting myself going, and not wanting to sleep all the time. This is a bad thing since I need to study, attend classes, and find a job.
Avatar n tn You need to get up to at least 1 gram and probably more than that. I currently take 1.5 g or Niaspan. The best way to take it is all at one time before bed time. They say that you can get used to large doses of regular Niacin, but the Niaspan is easy to get used to. I don't take it if I have had a few drinks that evening, as I have had flushes when taking it after drinking. As far as the statins go, Lipitor is best of breed at reducing LDL.
Avatar n tn my questions are 1 is he in immediate danger 2 should he continue his other workouts 3 is he on the best drugs for regreesion 4 how much regreesion can be expected at best and how long does it take to strart the process.
376186 tn?1219283105 At age 62 and even tho I am healthy, I still worry about them morphing into something serious, but I am trying to get the anxiety, etc under control. I do not like to take meds so my goal is to try to find a natural way to do this!! So you do not get Trigeminy anymore? Did you start a med that reduced the frequency? Do you take any natural supplements? Thank you again for your post..I enjoy all of yours. I am new to this forum and find it so helpful and informative.
1383782 tn?1279396173 So I am on a lot of different pain killers (vicoden, percocet and oxycotten), never combined, but my pain fluctuates and I take what I need. I am on the pain meds for an injury to my hand that got infected and I ended up having a Proximal Row Carpectomy (removal of a row of bones out of the wrist). This has been a LONG process and that was not my only surgery just the most current.
Avatar f tn Drs answer to all of this is thyroid is Normal, wants me to take a breathing test to see how many calories I need for intake a day?, well I know I am eating healthy walking at least 2 miles daily. still gaining weight. (also going threw menopause ) said my levels are where they are suppose to be Testosterone total 21 progesterone 0.5 FSH 80.0 LH 39.4 Estrogen total 212 I have no idea on any of these, was not given reference ranges for theses .
Avatar f tn That said, Sotalol completely stopped working which was why I switched. I'm giving it time to work because I really don't know what else to do. I'm waiting for a consultation with an EP to discuss an ablation.
Avatar m tn That is rather exciting, as it makes statins safe to take during SOC. If one is able to get a doc to prescribe fluvastatin on top of SOC..makes sense to me that that also increases one's chances. As well, if one is wanting to lower viral load prior to treatment, seems fluvastatin is a good option. I really want to know more about this. Gawd, I need more hours in a day.
Avatar m tn ) Statins are processed in the liver and some are therefore told not to take them. The liver specialists I spoke to said Statins should not be a problem although I should monitor liver enzymes just to be sure. Certainly the agreement was that any potentially small risk is outweighed by the rewards of lowering cholesterol.
