Avatar n tn The pravastatin could be the reason, however which of his liver enzymes are elevated? Let us know and I may be able to help you out.
Avatar f tn t seem overly concerned. He said I could go off the pravastatin and see how my numbers were with diet and exercise alone. I have been on a good routine with proper diet and regular exercise and I am at the low end of my healthy weight. I have low to normal blood pressure. Anyway, searching for info on this today, I can't find anyone with such low LDL levels but the term "dangerously low" pops up for women with HDL less than 40.
Avatar m tn potential to increase liver enzymes and cause liver damage, patients must be monitored for normal liver function. At least, that's what the label used to say. Now the FDA has removed this long-standing warning and ruled that patients taking statins no longer need routine monitoring of liver enzymes, but instead can have liver enzymes tested before starting the drugs, and then only as clinically needed.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.

Avatar f tn Statin drugs are often associated with side-effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10. If you aren't taking CoQ10, start immediately.
Avatar m tn FOR ME, it did nothing as it did almost nothing for the cholesterol levels, and in fact some test for liver function was bad and I was taken off the medication and switched to another. Hopefully that does not happen with you. Besides the other statin they switched me to the co-pay was several times the expense of the pravatstatin.
Avatar m tn I have R upper quadrant pain at times and have had laproscopic surgery by my gyn (endometriosis) and the pain was still there when I woke up from anesthesia, then I had my GB out and pain was still there. It comes and goes and I have weakness in L leg that comes and goes and thyroid swelling that comes and goes. Last week went in for yearly and my liveer enzymes were elevated AST 48 ALT 105 (range 7-60) non-reactive hep panel. I am currently having RUQ pain thru to my back.
Avatar m tn I quit taking carvedilol and my statin as I thought I had my heart problems knocked, and soon afterwards, even though my cholesterol, diabetes and weight was normal, I had to have six more stents, a pacemaker, and eventually bypass surgery. Today at age 72 I'm back taking the drugs, but I also have Congestive Heart Failure, and believe me, taking carvedilol and Plavix was much easier. I have to sleep in a chair because my lungs fill with water.
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar n tn I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.

1806721 tn?1554333407 what is the point of keep taking the products that addressed helping to reduce the cholesterol and gave you all kind of pain, , body aches and woke up every night, and now your doctor suggested you to take statin? does he know that also gives lots of side effect by other users? tell you the truth ! search for yourself and use natural products instead! stay away from all of the above.
Avatar m tn ) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease). Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Pravastatin 40mg 15 years ago following a minor heart attack. For at least 5 years I was treated for Goat problems even though I was not having the usual swellings associated with the illness. During the past 3 or 4 years started with Cramp like problems both in my feet, ankles and legs which was getting progressively worse. I mentioned it to various GP's without help until about 3 or 4 months ago when finally one doctor asked "Was I on Statins?
Avatar f tn Did they check for impinged nerves? Have you seen a neurologist regarding your chronic headaches? Are they migrainous in nature, muscular or sinus? Did they do a TB test? Statin drugs frequently cause muscle cramps and you should talk to your doctor if this got worse after starting your cholesterol lowering medication, because there can be a serious condition that can develop called rhabdomyolysis.

Avatar m tn m still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s). At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol. To try to make sure I get enough protein, I am using a protein drink (10-14 gr protein each). I drink 1-2 of these per day.
Avatar f tn It has dropped my LDL to 39-45 range and blood glucose ranges from 105-111 fasting. A1c 5.1 - 5.3. Prior to the statin I was below 100. I am not overweight, exercise consistently and eat very healthy. So the statin is the culprit. I am wondering if being stricter on carb intake and supplementing with Berberine will help? Or has anyone had better outcomes with other statins like livalo or pravastatin?
Avatar n tn I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase?
Avatar m tn I soon switched doctors because he was making me uncomfortable with the things he was saying and my new doctor did a liver enzyme test. It came back elevated so she took me off of the Pravastatin to see if my enzymes would improve. They did start to level out and she even said that my cholesterol had also dropped down to 150. This made me very happy and I continued to exercise and eat healthy. Recently I went back for a follow up and to have my cholesterol checked again.
