I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.

Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?

t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.

Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.

I have my own suspicions about Statin Drugs. I’m fortunate that I only took 1/2 or 2.5 mg of Rosuvastatin. Within 15 minutes I felt like my heart was cramping in front and back. I had to wake up my husband, to tell him I have to take my B/P and he gave me his Oximeter which also showed my heart was skipping many beats, B/P was lower than it’s ever been. My Dr. said to switch to the other Statin. I finally discovered that Rosuvastatin contains Flouride.

does muscle problems from taking the generic pravachol include a burning feeling in the knees which causes pain when walking or bending knees?

It's probably best if you call your doctor or pharmacist, grapefruit can increase the effects of some medications; but I don't know it the same is true for anit-biotics.

Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain. The role of Co Q10 in lowering cholesterol is controversial and should not be tried without consulting your doctor. Please discuss these points with your treating physician.

t really say which one in the end caused it, although, I was on Vytorin at the time, but I had taken over the years Lipitor, Pravachol, Zocor and the last Vytorin, however, not even close to the dosage dimi8 is taking.

Lipitor has also been shown to have a minimal effect on raising HDL as well, but is primarily prescribed to individuals with high levels of LDL (over 130) or high total cholesterol (over 200) or people that have several risk factors for CAD along with high cholesterol levels. Lipitor is commonly prescribed to patients after heart surgery or stenting as well.

It has read the same since I have been on this drug. Would it be wiser to change either of the drugs or to add plavix? I have been on pravachol for at least 6 years and diabetic only two. Another area I have noticed in your forum, is the effect of caffine on blood sugars. My blood sugars do go up when I drink caffenated products. I can not have products with nutrasweet as they do make me ill. I am limited to what I can drink.

My husband was recently taken off of Lipitor and has been experiencing daily headaches. He's not a headache person. Is this a common thing when coming off Lipitor? Also, I have read that you should stop it gradually. Is this true?

Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabadolosis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.

My psychiatrist has me on Lamictal, Effexor, Neurontin, Wellbutrin, and Nuvigil. From my PCP I take Pravachol and Lisinopril. Is it safe to take all these together? All answers are appreciated.
