Avatar n tn I use Rovastatin 10 mg daily for more than 3 years. How long can we take this drug? Is it safe to use long-term?
Avatar m tn My three years old daughter has very high cholesterol level (Cholesterol total 458.00 mg/dl), she never had any health problems, she eats well, she is very active, and all other blood tests are in the normal values. Two doctors gave me two different advices, and none of them have any explication for this "abnormality". I've redone the blood tests and got the same results.
808904 tn?1307057809 My cholesterol and other lipids seem to be in the normal range and she upped my pravachol to 80 mg/day to fight this athrosclerosis. I am also on fish oil 3 tmes a day.. My blood pressure was doing fine for about 3 lmonths after operation -- the past couple of days it shot up to 143/79 and then higher (150's--bottom number stays pretty much the same) with my horrific anxiety. I has been around 110-120 over 55-65. By the way she did prescribe Klonipin .
808904 tn?1307057809 I eat nothing much but oatmeal, veggies, fruit and fish and whole grains. I am on 80 mg pravachol per day. I do have some stomach burning and take 300 mg. of rantidine twice a day. Never any shortness of breath or anything like that. My lipid numbers are all pretty good...total cholesterol was 151, HDL was 56 and triglycerides were 71 My glucose was 80. These numbers are all from a blood test in December. Have dr's appt for check up on 6/17. CRP is always .4 or .5.
Avatar n tn never came back), resurgence of the peripheral neuropathy which I first got years ago from a year on Pravachol (statin) all the way up to my knees, worsening of my lung disease (which I discovered started with the Pravachol, stopped when I was off statins, and grew again when I went back on) AND wildly erratic heartbeats and tachycardia (all the way up to 140 beats per minute).
Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
Avatar m tn No other symptoms what so ever. Find it hard to loose weight even I try, take toprol and pravachol, was on Z-pack for strep throat when CT was done. Someone?
Avatar n tn I am 69 yr old female. New symptoms of dizzy spells + hi systolic, low dystolic #. I do not take bp meds. Bp readings around 160/67 throughout the day with pulse in mid 60's. Family hx of diabetes, Parkinson, hypothryroid, pancreatic ca.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has me on Lamictal, Effexor, Neurontin, Wellbutrin, and Nuvigil. From my PCP I take Pravachol and Lisinopril. Is it safe to take all these together? All answers are appreciated.
Avatar n tn My blood preasure has been high since before I found out I was a diabetic. He also has me on pravachol. My cholestrol was high before I was told I was a diabetic. It has read the same since I have been on this drug. Would it be wiser to change either of the drugs or to add plavix? I have been on pravachol for at least 6 years and diabetic only two. Another area I have noticed in your forum, is the effect of caffine on blood sugars.
Avatar n tn I take prevacid for heartburn and pravachol for high cholesterol; also using mupirocin ointment since I had sinus surgery in September.
Avatar m tn I have been told by my Cardiologist that Lipitor has a protective effect for cardiovascular disease even in patients with normal lipids, if there are other risk factors, such as family history. Is there evidence to that effect? I am a 63 year old male. I was started on Lipitor in 2000 after some small calcium deposits were discovered in my coronary arteries on a screening CT scan (I was asymptomatic). Cholesterol was about 190.
Avatar n tn I'm a 63 year old male who had no risk factors for heart disease, exercised two hours a day, had no chest pain nor shortness of breath and had passed routine stress test with ease. However, after feeling faint lifting weights, an angiogram revealed major blockages and bypass surgery was done four weeks ago. It went well, except on the third day in the hospital I developed atrial fib which returned to normal rhythm in seven hours with the help of an IV drip of amiodarone.
Avatar n tn I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
Avatar n tn however, I have high blood pressure (norvasc), osteopena (sp) and high cholesteral (pravachol). I really don't want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar m tn Findings consistent with Vascular disease etc. Put on asprin and Pravachol for precaution. Had an Ultrasound of heart on 29/5/08, showed enlarged Aorta and Left ventricule. Never had High blood pressure, taken 120/90. No chest or back pain. No shortness of breath or any other symptons. Of note- Occassionally through childhood, adolescent and adult years when did high cardio exercise found it hard to get a breathe(scary), always ice cold feet.
Avatar f tn My doctor insists my cholesterols is dangerously high and prescribed Pravachol. Within two days the symptoms have returned. I now believe my RLS was in fact an early reaction to Lipitor and that my back and neck pain, etc. are an indication of increasing toxicity from statins. Is this an accurate assessment? I need to know what my next steps are. I can't tolerate taking statins any longer.
Avatar f tn It's unbelievable that I made so many mistakes just writing down my problems, the worst is I forgot I entered this and entered again tonight. I've been having problems for 7 years until diagnosed. I'm not sure how this site works. This cognitive problems is not good. Questions is this a problem of MG, drugs, alzheimer's, a stroke or depression. I haven't called the my nerulogist yet. He said to call if I saw double. Concerning county mental health, why county?
Avatar m tn I am 52, I take Nexium 40mg, Pravachol 40mg, Xanax 0.5mg and Microzide 12.5mg. My blood pressure was always around 128/80, but last month it jumped to 147/102 and has been staying around 138/98 thats when my doctor gave me the Microzide. It is still around 138/98. My doctor always use to tell me that my pressure was beautiful, then I woke up one morning feeling sweaty and clammy. Thats when for some reason I took my blood pressure and it was 147/102.

Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
