Avatar m tn I do have in my family some cases of high cholesterol, all temporary and diagnosed as stress related cases. Her daily diet did not changed, she eats well (meat without fat, vegetables, fruits) as I said, she is very active(she plays all day). The only difference about her is that she has swollen eyes when she wakes up or after crying(more then normal). Doctors said that is not a symptom and that she is in good health. The same doctors were wrong before so...
Avatar n tn I take prevacid for heartburn and pravachol for high cholesterol; also using mupirocin ointment since I had sinus surgery in September.
Avatar n tn Hi...I am on numerous meds...heart(tachycardia arrythmia)-ATENOLOL; High Cholesterol-CRESTOR; Hernia-PRAVACHOL; Fibromyalgia & Osteo-Arthrytis-KETOROLAC; water retention-LASIX; Sinus-FLONASE; Dysrythmia-ATIVAN. I have also been on EFFEXOR for 5 years for severe depression. My dosage has been increased twice in the past month--I now take 187.5 mg...I woke up at about 12 midnight last Sunday and I have no recall of the past 4 days; however, I apparently withdrew $7000.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar m tn Thanks. Yes, I went to MD because despite being UND 6 months post tx, and normal lft's during tx, most recent post tx lft's were like 1 point above normal (also cholesterol shot up greatly). I feel great by the way. Anyway, he did fibroscan, ordered repeat tests and labs (ANA, IG's, anti-smooth muscle antibody, etc), and a script for Pravachol. Sound right?

Avatar n tn Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.
Avatar n tn does muscle problems from taking the generic pravachol include a burning feeling in the knees which causes pain when walking or bending knees?
Avatar f tn 41:20 - 6:09 per mile! Following the race my Dr. told me that my total cholesterol was 303!!! So they instantly prescribed me 20mg of Simvastatin. With in a matter of 7-10 days I was nearly unable to run my legs became so heavy. Lead Legs! I lost all desire to run, slept all the time and was worthless at work - because I was constantly tired. I even had co-workers say to me "what happened to you at Houston - ever since you got back your not the same." I felt miserable.
Avatar n tn I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
808904 tn?1307057809 I asked my GP who seems to be very knowledgeable if I should see a cardiologist snd she did not deem it necessary at this time.. My cholesterol and other lipids seem to be in the normal range and she upped my pravachol to 80 mg/day to fight this athrosclerosis. I am also on fish oil 3 tmes a day..
1806721 tn?1554333407 Cr are also low. WBC still low and cholesterol still high. Currently taking Pravachol. No matter what I eat and how much I exercise, I cannot seem to control the symptoms of fatigue and massive body aches. Does this still look like hypothyroidism?
Avatar m tn According to research when cholesterol was diminished, whether from abstaining from cholesterol-rich food or from taking statin drugs, less synapses were formed and the ones that were formed were inefficient and under functioning. A European study documented in Science also confirmed that any decline in available cholesterol to the brain will impair the circuitry of mental function due to a drop in synapses between brain cells.
Avatar f tn And now I find out that this whole low-fat cholesterol scare is mostly drug company hype to keep the country on their medications. Do an internet search for cholesterol scam, cholesterol myth, or something to that effect, and you'll find a world of information that contradicts everything most doctors believe. Great site- spacedoc.com for more on what statins will do to you.
Avatar n tn (TSH was 1.28) He put me on 20mg Pravachol for the cholesterol. I also take 0.9 Premarin (estrogen) for a hysterectomy (TAH BSO) I had 2 years ago after years of heavy bleeding. My PCP did not think much of the symptoms after all this bloodwork but referred me to a neurologist to be safe. The neuro has done some test, MRI's, EEg, EMG, bloodwork and general neuro exam and so far says it is definitely not neuro and not MS.
189372 tn?1219833358 It is high but not too much. You'll probably need pravachol 20 mg once a day, that is what I was taking :) Try to increase your "good" cholesterol. This is more important than lowering the "bad cholesterol". Eat fish, nuts and DO exercise. If you can "really" change your diet you may not have to use cholesterol drugs for ever.
808904 tn?1307057809 I eat nothing much but oatmeal, veggies, fruit and fish and whole grains. I am on 80 mg pravachol per day. I do have some stomach burning and take 300 mg. of rantidine twice a day. Never any shortness of breath or anything like that. My lipid numbers are all pretty good...total cholesterol was 151, HDL was 56 and triglycerides were 71 My glucose was 80. These numbers are all from a blood test in December. Have dr's appt for check up on 6/17. CRP is always .4 or .5.
Avatar f tn The levels of cholesterol are influenced by the amount of thyroid hormones in circulation. As the thyroid gland becomes increasing inactive (hypothyroidism) cholesterol levels rise. Labs can show higher total cholesterol, lower HDL "good cholesterol", higher LDL "bad cholesterol" and higher triglycerides. When thyroid hormones are brought back into balance cholesterol generally returns to normal. "From WebMD New Warnings on Cholesterol-Lowering Statins: "Feb.
Avatar n tn never came back), resurgence of the peripheral neuropathy which I first got years ago from a year on Pravachol (statin) all the way up to my knees, worsening of my lung disease (which I discovered started with the Pravachol, stopped when I was off statins, and grew again when I went back on) AND wildly erratic heartbeats and tachycardia (all the way up to 140 beats per minute).
Avatar m tn No other symptoms what so ever. Find it hard to loose weight even I try, take toprol and pravachol, was on Z-pack for strep throat when CT was done. Someone?
Avatar m tn I just received the report from a heart scan that says: total calcium score 1241 with the left anterior descending artery taking the brunt at 782. Question: how long does it take to get this bad? I had a CT scan 10 years ago and they told me then that one artery was blocked 25% and that probably wasn't anything to worry about. I have no symptons at this time other then when I walk uphill (@~16min./mile) and have already put in ~2 miles, I get out of breath pretty fast.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has me on Lamictal, Effexor, Neurontin, Wellbutrin, and Nuvigil. From my PCP I take Pravachol and Lisinopril. Is it safe to take all these together? All answers are appreciated.
