Pravachol and liver

Common Questions and Answers about Pravachol and liver

pravachol

Avatar m tn No other symptoms what so ever. Find it hard to loose weight even I try, take toprol and pravachol, was on Z-pack for strep throat when CT was done. Someone?
Avatar n tn Pravachol (pravastin sodium) does not ALWAYS cause diabetes. The drug, however has a number of possible serious side affects. A discussion of these may be found on the United States government website for the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Go to their site and type in "pravachol" on their internal document search engine.
Avatar n tn Rhabdomyolysis, kidney problems so that I ultimately had to stop them, but knee burning/pain while walking wasn't one of them.
Avatar n tn Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.
Avatar m tn Thanks. Yes, I went to MD because despite being UND 6 months post tx, and normal lft's during tx, most recent post tx lft's were like 1 point above normal (also cholesterol shot up greatly). I feel great by the way. Anyway, he did fibroscan, ordered repeat tests and labs (ANA, IG's, anti-smooth muscle antibody, etc), and a script for Pravachol. Sound right?
Avatar n tn never came back), resurgence of the peripheral neuropathy which I first got years ago from a year on Pravachol (statin) all the way up to my knees, worsening of my lung disease (which I discovered started with the Pravachol, stopped when I was off statins, and grew again when I went back on) AND wildly erratic heartbeats and tachycardia (all the way up to 140 beats per minute).
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has me on Lamictal, Effexor, Neurontin, Wellbutrin, and Nuvigil. From my PCP I take Pravachol and Lisinopril. Is it safe to take all these together? All answers are appreciated.
Avatar n tn As far as the caffeine and Nutrasweet issue goes, you might want to try a natural sweetener called Stevia. You can get it in health food stores and it is all natural and not made from any chemicals. The only problem I have had with it is that it dissolves better in hot or warm drinks than in cold drinks. If caffeine raises your blood sugar, you might want to try some of the flavored herbal teas.
Avatar n tn I take prevacid for heartburn and pravachol for high cholesterol; also using mupirocin ointment since I had sinus surgery in September.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Also not mentioned, the FDA is eliminating the risk of liver damage from the list of side effects and that the link to Memory loss, confusion, high blood sugar, and type 2 diabetes are not proven, only an observation and NO LINK HAS BEEN PROVEN. This is typical anti statin rhetoric with only part of the data being given and the rest either ignored or taken out of context.
Avatar n tn Hi...I am on numerous meds...heart(tachycardia arrythmia)-ATENOLOL; High Cholesterol-CRESTOR; Hernia-PRAVACHOL; Fibromyalgia & Osteo-Arthrytis-KETOROLAC; water retention-LASIX; Sinus-FLONASE; Dysrythmia-ATIVAN. I have also been on EFFEXOR for 5 years for severe depression. My dosage has been increased twice in the past month--I now take 187.5 mg...I woke up at about 12 midnight last Sunday and I have no recall of the past 4 days; however, I apparently withdrew $7000.
Avatar n tn * Halcion, Versed, Valium, Xanax and quazepam * Norvir * Zoloft and Lustral * Statins such as Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, Simlup, Simcor, Simvacor, with the exception of Pravachol. Lescol and Crestor which are unaffected by grapefruit.
Avatar m tn Had to start new antibiotics, two weeks with a high fever, coughing so hard I threw up. I ask my liver doctor and he said it was fine what the other doctor was giving me for my pneumonia. But don't let it get worse cause we have no immune system and man when we get sick it's bad. God bless I hope yours does not get as bad as mine did. And I was still on all my treatment. No fun.
Avatar n tn Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain. Please discuss these points with your treating physician. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn however, I have high blood pressure (norvasc), osteopena (sp) and high cholesteral (pravachol). I really don't want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar n tn A couple of weeks later I had an US, it showed fatty infiltration, and my liver and spleen are enlarged. This week my blood work showed that my enzymes are down - AST is 98, ALT 124 and Alk. Phos. is 287. The hepatologist said that he wants to do a biopsy because he no longer thinks I have NASH. My numbers are too high for me to have NASH. He is now thinking along the lines of PBC or autoimmune cirrhosis. Can someone tell me how a liver biopsy is done? Is it painful?
1806721 tn?1554333407 Cr are also low. WBC still low and cholesterol still high. Currently taking Pravachol. No matter what I eat and how much I exercise, I cannot seem to control the symptoms of fatigue and massive body aches. Does this still look like hypothyroidism?
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Avatar m tn Findings consistent with Vascular disease etc. Put on asprin and Pravachol for precaution. Had an Ultrasound of heart on 29/5/08, showed enlarged Aorta and Left ventricule. Never had High blood pressure, taken 120/90. No chest or back pain. No shortness of breath or any other symptons. Of note- Occassionally through childhood, adolescent and adult years when did high cardio exercise found it hard to get a breathe(scary), always ice cold feet.
Avatar n tn I am a 44 year old female and I have been having symptoms on and off for 3 years. Some come and go. They all seemed to increase this January and I went to my PCP. These symptoms are fatigue, intermittent bouts of vertigo, intermittent sinus headaches or headaches when I am hungry, frequent dropping things, weight gain, inability to concentrate when really fatigued, intermittent tingling in hand, constipation, and what I describe as no temperature regulation.
Avatar m tn I have been told by my Cardiologist that Lipitor has a protective effect for cardiovascular disease even in patients with normal lipids, if there are other risk factors, such as family history. Is there evidence to that effect? I am a 63 year old male. I was started on Lipitor in 2000 after some small calcium deposits were discovered in my coronary arteries on a screening CT scan (I was asymptomatic). Cholesterol was about 190.
Avatar m tn Patients taking statins will no longer need periodic monitoring of liver enzymes, since cases of serious liver injury are rare and unpredictable in individual patients." The bottom line is that there was NO connection found between statin use and memory loss, but it was seen in studies so it was added to the list of POSSIBLE side effects. One needs to see all the story to understand the meaning, not just the headlines.
Avatar m tn I went to my doctor and told him about it and he never addressed them. And I also noticed that my head and face and around my mouth goes numb. Does anyone know what could be causing these headaches and the tingling numbness ? Its really strange that I get these headaches right after eating dinner!
Avatar n tn Pulse pressure is the difference in blood pressure between the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure. Pulse pressure in healthy adults in a sitting position is about 40 mmHg. Your have a wide pulse pressure of 93mmHg.
Avatar n tn Thus, atorvastatin 80 mg/day causes a greater reduction in LDL-cholesterol than pravastatin 40 mg/day, and this is associated with a reduced progression of atheroma and reduced clinical events. As a consequence of these findings, the National Cholesterol Education Programme and European guidelines for LDL-cholesterol levels should be lowered.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
