Potassium chloride versus potassium gluconate

Common Questions and Answers about Potassium chloride versus potassium gluconate

klor-con

Avatar m tn It also seems to make clear that the type of potassium salt you are taking (chloride, citrate, gluconate, acetate, bicarbonate, etc) does not matter. The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium. This means that if I am willing to take 20 of these cheap little pills a day to get my 2000mg (2g) of potassium that is just fine.
Avatar m tn In other words the amount of elemental potassium, that could POSSIBLY be absorbed, from 1ea potassium chloride tablet which is about 52% potassium is equal 3ea potassium gluconate which are about 17% potassium each.
Avatar m tn Recently, I tried a potassium gluconate supplement. I experienced rapid and dramatic reduction in all of my symptoms. This effect has been repeatable for 2 months. If I stop the supplementation, the symptoms return within a day. Severe, chronic symptoms improved: • Asthma and respiratory issues. • Nasal congestion. • Constipation. • Headaches. • Muscle cramping, weakness and pain. • Insomnia. • Palpitations. I’ve also suffered from unexplained osteoporosis since my twenties.
Avatar n tn what is the difference between Potassium Chloride, Potassium Nitrate and Potassium Citrate?

Avatar n tn Should I take Potassium gluconate or Potassium Choloride for diuretic induced hypokalemia. How much should I take. I have had leg cramps for the past 3 nights.
Avatar f tn will potassium gluconate 595mg help with dehydration. i am having hard cramps the diarrhea has stopped but i cant seem to eat and am getting weak. need help dont want to go to hospital. please help me....
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it. Avatar n tn Potassium and Calcium and important electrolytes in muscles. Potassium is one of those electrolytes you dont really want to be messed up in your body. High potassium levels can cause heart dysrrhythmias, since your heart is a big muscle, Other signs of hyperkalemia(increased potassium) are nausea vomitting, restlessness, irritability, I am looking in my book right now to make sure i can give you the most accurate information. Chloride there is not much on.
Avatar f tn My cat's initial symptom was constipation. Examination prior to teeth cleaning...basic blood work came back fine. After teeth cleaning 1/4 ib weight loss and muscle loss. Complete blood work showed potassium of 3.3 and CPK of 2707 and TSH of 4.7. No renal failure showing although my understanding is hyperthyroidism can mask renal problems. He's taking potassium gluconate 1/2 of 438mg tab twice a day for a week and 1/4 of 5mg methamazole once a day for 4 days so far.
1399363 tn?1462342610 Too little Potassium is not good, but too much in your body is deadly. Usually Potassium level variations are caused by diuretics, like HCZT, Lasik, and Spironolalone. Three month blood tests can easily track Potassium buildup or loss.
Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.
199980 tn?1233797404 Also you can get over-the-counter potassium gluconate tablets. These are very safe as long as your kidney function is normal. When I am on steroids I use about three of these tabs three times a day and the cramps just melt away. Since you are in such discomfort that is what I would recommend. Some sources of potassiium Many foods contain potassium. All meats (red meat and chicken) and fish such as salmon, cod, flounder, and sardines are good sources of potassium.
Avatar f tn In physiology, the primary ions of electrolytes are sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (Cl−), hydrogen phosphate (HPO42−), and hydrogen carbonate (HCO3−). The electric charge symbols of plus (+) and minus (−) indicate that the substance in question is ionic in nature and has an imbalanced distribution of electrons, the result of chemical dissociation".

456906 tn?1208569831 Too much potassium can be bad for anybody...they actually use potassium chloride in HIGH concentration for lethal injection. They use the same thing in IV's in low doses to keep people hydrated in the hospital. Too much of anything can be bad. I think it would be VERY difficult to bring yourself to the point where you had too much potassium.
Avatar f tn Could the potassium nitrate in toothpaste for sensitive teeth be enough to cause palpitations? I have used it for quite a while and ran out about a month ago. When I bought toothpaste got regular by mistake and used the whole tube. During this time my palps were the best they have been in a LONG time. Hardly even noticed anything. Ran out of toothpaste, bought the sensitive stuff and after about a week I'm flipping and flopping all over the place again.
Avatar m tn I can't find the source of my information but I remember reading that metoprolol is potassium sparing drug - meaning it doesn't cause potassium levels to drop. I don't believe that consuming fruit with a high K diet alone would raise K values to the point of side effects. At the moment I am more interested in the magnesium deficiency/arrhythmia information that I have read about. There seems to be something to that side of the electrolyte balance.
Avatar f tn Underlying cause can be excessive potassium intake, disturbed cellular uptake of potassium, or impaired renal excretion of potassium. My system is periodically tested to monitor renal excretion of potassium as well as liver functionality. An ACE inhibitor as well as a beta blocker can raise potassium to an abnormal level. Hyperkalemia has been reported in 1.3% (serum potassium greater than 6.0 mEq/mL) to 10% (greater than 5.3 mEq/mL) of patients.
Avatar n tn Liberal use of salt substitutes that contain potassium chloride can add to the potassium load. Liberal use of these products in people with kidney disease can cause dangerously high levels of potassium to build in the bloodstream.
