Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.
1618806 tn?1304734477 m highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it. Point of reference: http://www.mortonsalt.

Avatar m tn It also seems to make clear that the type of potassium salt you are taking (chloride, citrate, gluconate, acetate, bicarbonate, etc) does not matter. The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium. This means that if I am willing to take 20 of these cheap little pills a day to get my 2000mg (2g) of potassium that is just fine.
Avatar m tn Also buy the salt substitute potassium chloride. Try this it could take a few months to see an improvement.

Avatar n tn Liberal use of salt substitutes that contain potassium chloride can add to the potassium load. Liberal use of these products in people with kidney disease can cause dangerously high levels of potassium to build in the bloodstream.
Avatar f tn You can easily test for this by having your daughter use a salt substitute during an episode of swelling. Salt substitutes contain potassium chloride instead of the normal sodium chloride. If that doesn't help, keep track of the foods she eats to see if the swelling correlates with presence or absence of a particular food. Good luck.

5700631 tn?1372667575 7 is marginally high, but with electrolytes like potassium, a margiinal high at times can cause problems. Meanwhile limit salt intake, citrus fruits, potatoes, tomatoes, avocado, spinach, and juices of these. This should also lower the potassium levels. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn major electrolytes in the body are sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium (all various forms of salt)...... they must all be in balance and each have their own symptoms of deficiency, which can also overlap.

617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.

Avatar f tn We need much more potassium so start eating starchy fruits ie. bananas, cantaloupe, papaya etc. and many vegetables ie. potatoes, spinach etc. using the salt substitute "no salt" is the easiest way to add potassium to the body in large amounts. The cramping could be a combination of both so when it happens eat 1 or 2 bananas and drink lots of water. Some other causes are dieretic medications which can naturally deplete the body of potassium and dehydrate the body.
Avatar f tn I wake, almost nightly, with EXTREME leg cramps which typically begin in the inner thigh and radiate from the knee to the lower back. Most often in my left leg, these cramps will bring on uncontrolled screams and cries to God for relief, although I am typically a very reserved person. I wear Dansko shoes because I am on my feet all day, and although I try to avoid too many carbs I am not a true Atkins dieter.
