Avatar f tn I think I have post traumatic stress disorder. I was abused by my sisters father as a child. I'm a teenager now and I always have flashbacks of him hurting us. I flinch at any sudden movement. I have nightmares of men yelling a me and hitting me. I feel so alone and I need help. What should I do??
Avatar f tn Do you still see a therapist (or have you ever?)? Post traumatic stress disorder comes to mind but at the very least, working through the emotions and memories again might help you get back on track with your husband. I'm glad you have a loving man in your life and remember that------ he LOVES you. Peace to you.
993488 tn?1249453190 my doctor just told me i had post traumatic stress syndrome, and honestly i'm not sure what that means... why are the "symptoms" of this disorder? Are there any long term issues i should worry about?
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. I am posting because several months ago I experienced a very traumatic event which pushed my body and mind far passed it's limit as far as the amount of stress I could handle. Ever since then I feel like my body has stored an incomprehensible amount of stress because I never really expressed my emotions to anyone following the incident. My sister told me I sometimes yell in my sleep. Sometimes I would wake up feeling extremely enraged. Other times I wake up crying.
Avatar f tn Sounds like post-traumatic stress disorder with flashbacks of the traumatic episode being the leading the symptom. You should seek out a medical professional and get the help needed for it.

Avatar f tn Yesterday and today Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been associated with any traumatic event which leaves the witness/participant with feelings of helplessness. There are several definitions for PTSD however, I believe the most accurate is: PTSD is an emotional injury based on a catastrophic event.
Avatar f tn ptsd is very likely from traumatic event(s) that cause flashbacks & nightmares panic & anxiety attacks i believe that substance abuse go with it and intense fear for many years after the event :)
Avatar n tn I also take an antipsychotic though for psychosis related to whichever schizo disorder I may have and that seemed to make the flashbacks go away as my psychiatrist said it would help. I say this after six months of them being absent although I still have invasive memories.
Avatar f tn How will Post traumatic stress disorder affect me during pregnancy and the hormones?

This said, I think it important that you tell your parents what is going on and see if you can get in to see a therapist about it so you can sort out the dreams and hopefully resolve it. Take care. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn I was originally diagnosed as depression and panic disorder; then upgraded to PTDS. I don't visually have flash backs, but certain things affect me. I cannot be in a closed room with a man without hyperventilating because I feel trapped. I had been raped many years ago, wherein he locked me into my own home and had his way with me for about 2.5 hours till I tricked him into leaving.
510168 tn?1211327589 I used to work for newspapers, and I interviewed a director of psychiatry at the VA, and he talked about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is a condition that many soldiers have from the war experience, where they are mentally disabled by scary stuff that happened in battle, and they relive situations when triggered by noises or visual clues. This is a treatable condition. I have panic disorder from a car wreck, so cars are my trigger.
Avatar f tn I was suggested by a few people including family members and professionals to seek help for post traumatic stress disorder but never did. I then for 3 years pulled myself out of this deep unhealthy way of living. Still having the occasional dream and flashback but not enough to dibilitatee me like before. As of 3 years ago all that had happened right after the accident and more began to creep up on me. I began to not leave the house for months on end, not even on the front porch.
Avatar f tn Hey. My husband does as well. I'm an Army wife after 3 tours he had it bad. Not to mention tramatic brain injury. It took a few months if different meds he sees a Dr in and off post. The ones on post aren't much help and are quite overwhelmed w patients. Ask if you can gi w him to his drs. I've gone a few times w my hubby. He would tell them all was well and wasnt getting anywhere w it. I went in and maybe made him mad but told them what I saw daily.
