Common Questions and Answers about Post hysterectomy complications long term

hysterectomy

Avatar m tn It sure sounds like your surgeon was negligent. I developed the opposite problem (severe diarrhea) post-hysterectomy. I lost my libido too as well as my energy and motivation along with many other issues :( The patch did not work well for me. I had a long list of hormone deficiency symptoms, the worst being suicidal depression and fragmented sleep. Maybe the patch is not a good fit for you or isn't a high enough dose. Or maybe you need a different brand patch.
863457 tn?1239141724 Transfused 8 units as well as FFP and Albumin. Post op ileus 9 day hospital stay. Ok here is the current question. 2 weeks post op I was back in the MD's office c/o RLQ/pelvic pain CT w/contrast done 2/1009 showed Complex pelvic collection Cranial/Caudal distance of 6cm and about 3.5cm in transverse diameter. it is about 3.8cm in AP diameter." after consult with my GYN and no acute s/s of infection decision was to wait and watch.
Avatar m tn 2011 radical hysterectomy due to complications from multiple large fibroids. Left 1 ovary only (cerix, uterus, 1 ovary and both tubes removed). Post-op pathology showed small adenocarcinoma of cervix which was removed. I have had yearly f/u with my gyn-onc who did the surgery. Forward to 2014- nearing my 50th bday, my abdomen has been getting thicker and thicker, not sure how long this has been going on.
Avatar n tn While I am aware of these issues, my experience from researching the data I have access to is that these incidences are relatively rare, but that from my experience on various boards such as this one, just the opposite seems to be the case -- I am assuming there are more reports of post ablation problems on boards such as this one because those patients without problems have no reason to post, but it does raise the issue of just what the long term complication rates might really be.
Avatar f tn What many people don't realize is that the uterus and ovaries are needed for much more than reproduction. We need them our whole lives for good health. Numerous studies show that ovary removal or impaired ovarian function after hysterectomy do more harm than good. A search for something like "pubmed bilateral oophorectomy long term health" will bring up numerous studies that show all the problems associated with the loss of ovarian hormones.
Avatar f tn i was hospitalized the next day for complications from hernia surgery. since then i have had problems and now im bleeding vaginally which i shouldnt be considering i dont have a period from a hysterectomy. i told my doctor and she said it was from irritation where my ovary was removed but the bleeding went from spotting to a light period. what should i do?
Avatar n tn You are right to be concerned about the many long-term health issues of hysterectomy. Besides those you listed, there is an increased risk of heart disease, #1 killer of women (one study says it is 3x that of an intact woman if your uterus is removed). Hysterectomy also destroys the figure because they have to sever the uterine ligaments that are the support structures for the pelvis. And it's associated with increased risks of thyroid, renal cell (kidney) and rectal cancers.
Avatar f tn Hoping someone will post info on alternatives to hysterectomy or at least give some good info on how they are feeling post hysterectomy.
482924 tn?1333203671 Please, please, please do not just rush into a hysterectomy! I was forced into one at the age of 27 and my life has never been the same since. For one I almost died from the sugery and for two, there is a very long list of major complications/illness' that come with a hysterectomy. Some doctor's push for a hysterectomy because they make good money from them and will continue making more money off of you, because of the side affects and complications.
Avatar f tn It is likely to be just a coincidence that you have developed symptoms post your hysterectomy. Diabetes is a chronic disease and complications are unlikely to develop over a few weeks or months and alternative possibilities to the cause of your symptoms may need to be considered. I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician initially and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar f tn 7 percent) had serious complications, and 48 (4 percent) were readmitted to a hospital within the year following surgery because of conditions related to hysterectomy. The most common serious complications were related to the incision or urinary tract problems. Avatar n tn t want to go through a surgical procedure and then end up having to have a hysterectomy in the long run. Naturally, I also don't want to have a hysterectomy and end up with complications and am really afraid of menopause. Any advise you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn My OBGYN, who was insulted that I had the tummy tuck done at the same time as his hysterectomy, said it is not from the hysterectomy and that a Tummy Tuck can cause long term pain. Is this true, is there anything I can do?
Avatar m tn What is the normal time for the duration of this desease? I mean the time where the symptoms are normal and not long term complications.
Avatar m tn There appear to be no complications and no long term health impacts for either affected men or their sex partners. Evem acute, untreated NGU appears to be harmless when not caused by chlamydia, and no complications have been reported from NGU acquired during oral sex. So even if neither I nor your STD clinic can provide clear answers, you really shouldn't worry too much about this. As to your specific situation, I see two somewhat separate issues here.
Avatar f tn Hi- Just wondering if anyone out there had any complications post total hysterectomy? I had mine 3 months ago due to several cysts again! Paternal grandma died of ovarian cancer at age 50. I had 15 years of cysts, and a total of 8 laporosopies. I am not even 40 yet! Any how, at my 8 wk check up my oncologist said everything was fine, no infection, no cancer, etc., I can try having sex with my husband. We did everything was fine.
