Post hernia surgery bruising

Common Questions and Answers about Post hernia surgery bruising

hernia-surgery

It's been a week since imbilical hernia surgery and my belly button is black with a foul odor. what to do?
i had hernia surgery in january, did you have keyhole or open surgery? i have had two hernia's one three years ago and the other this year, if i had it all over again i would have got a double done the first time, first one was keyhole second was open.
It was an inguinal hernia and the surgery was done a week ago using normal methods, as opposed to laproscopic. It was not repaired with mesh but with a very thin steel thread (can't remember what it's called). This has been my first surgery and first reason to even go to a hospital so I have NO clue what to expect. Now that a week have passed, swelling is almost gone, minus the hardening of the fat, and bruising is going away.
I had three of them (one umbilical, and two by the testicals). Usually, surgery is the primary method of fixing a hernia and it usually costs around $15,000+ to have it fixed. If you don't have the money to have it fixed, by all means, if you are a US Citizen, check with your local Department of Economic Security (DES) and see if their health insurance program can help you. In my case, I was a college student (with little money) and they were my only option at the time.
I had left inguinal and umbilical hernia surgery at the same time, and on day 5 post-op, I couldn't stand it anymore and had to masturbate. It burned slightly immediately before and during ejaculation. I waited 2 more days, tried it again and everything was fine. I would say if you feel up to it, go for it!!

im scared now my 8 week old son has just had surgery to repair a inguinal hernia n he has severe swelling and bruising and the surgeon told me not to worry n that it was normal
I talked to the surgeon about it at my 6 week follow up, and he said it was probably bruising. My GP doesn’t think it’s bruising, because this long after surgery it should have cleared up (unless there’s fresh bleeding, which neither doctor thinks there is.) He thought it was a hernia, but couldn’t find one. He’s now certain that it’s not a hernia, and not bruising.
Ist was Novasure and 1 ovary removed. The second was hystertomy and hernia repair. Third was hernia repair from the 2nd surg. Ever since my last surgery in November I have had several UTI's (currently have dark red urine in the a.m.), bruising from Pubic bone to hip bone (Sometimes it is more bruised than others), and have incredible pain on my right side pubic bone and the groin area. I am able to do physical activity for about an hour and then the pain increases and the bruising worsens.
The theory that these symptoms are caused by infection has long since been discarded, due to the lack of response to antibiotics in these patients and absence of acute infection when epididymal and vasal sections are removed during surgery and analyzed histologically (Selikowitz and Schned, 1985; Chen and Ball, 1991).
I am probably having surgery soon. I have MANY chiari symptoms. 12+...After surgery do most people only have alleviation of headache or other symptoms too (i.e. - dizziness, imbalance, slurred speech, etc). Dr. Ellenbogen at University of Washington said all they can really guarantee is that headache will get better after PFD. But Dr. Di said all symptoms could get better. Anyone have input on this?
I was wondering if anyone out there has had a thoracotomy and could let me know if it is atypical to have pain 6 weeks after surgery. I have read about post thoracotomy pain syndrome and I'm concerned that this is what I'm experiencing. I sure hope it will get better because I can't imagine having to live with this pain for the rest of my life! Any advice/information would be appreciated. I'm especially interested in advice about long term pain management after a thoracotomy. Thanks.
I have a couple of questions about post surgery though.. its been about 8 weeks and my scar is still reddish.. the area around the scar is not red and is perfectly fine but the actual scar is still reddish. the doctors told me that if the skin around the area was red i should be worried about infection, but how long did it take some of the rest of you for the redness of your scar to fade? Should i be worried if mines taking this long?
I should add one more thing: a "slip" is not really a slip. What happens is that bands are there to restrict food intake. Some people try very hard to force food in anyway, and when that happens, the stomach above the band can stretch. In virtually all cases of "slip," it's due to the patient vomitting frequently from trying to eat to much. In other words, there is a small number of patients who do it to themselves: nothing is perfect.
I would just ask him if he thinks you are a good candidate for fundoplication surgery? If he says no, ask him why not? If he says yes, ask him how having the hernia repair will effect your activity level post-op? Lifting heavy items (over 10 lbs) will not be an option for many months after this surgery....Im in no way a medical professional just another pt.
i went for a workout and after i got home in the shower i noticed that it was slightly bluer then before... i think its something with the circulation..i've had surgery for a hernia before and it hasn't really bothered me either... i excercise regularly but i smoke 3-5 cigarettes a week.. and i've been smoking on and off for a few years... i tried googling my symptom and wound my way here so i decided to post my question and hopefully get an answer...
sensation deep behind my navel and I can feel a knot when I press in that area. I had quite extensive bruising below the navel after surgery, because that is the incision where the camera was inserted so a lot of manipulation went on in that area. But I am starting to have a deep, pulling, aching pain there daily and it's not very comfortable...could it possibly be adhesions forming? I feel like some little person is sitting inside me behind my navel and twisting and pulling it....Any ideas?
This pain goes right through to my mid back causing back pain sought of a bruising feeling. Also I burp alot. I have had ultrasound to check for gallstones etc, barium meal and endoscopy but nothing found. Pain seems to be more often now, sometimes goes away but comes back. I can't stop worrying about it.
Greetings & How do? I'm journaling to let those interested know what's been going on with me medically & to express my current mental & emotional state. I'd like to document my ongoing recovery & impressions for anyone who might have to go through the same. I'd also like to share my experience thus far with having to take opiate painkillers post-op & to be witnessed in that sense by you, my comrades-in-arms.
any ways i have fout scars on my belly where the doctors were trying to enter but couldnt because i had inguinal hernia surgery prior to this in 1998. well i had a ultra sound done to see why i have pain and nothing came up. well i still have pain especially when i spat down doing weight lifting. i owned squat with 50 ibs is this too much? should i go back to doctor?
Flow question... I am one week post catheter, four weeks post surgery. I'm experiencing a slow start to urinate, stream is strong once started but starts to slow down and sometimes splits. Anyone else experience this? I'm worried that the area repaired is starting to break down.
Yes, it's on Facebook somewhere (but I don't know where) that he went into surgery on Saturday at 5 pm and was closed at 11 pm. He did great according to the FB post and now we just have to send him the best healing Karma we can manage. What truly fantastic news! I don't belong to FB but I think I recall that he told me it was a 36 year old liver prior to surgery. I'm not sure of that but I think it's true. I was just too excited to think straight or hear straight.
I had a hernia in my tummy that required immediate surgery. The surgery went well. I was released after 2 weeks. I was weak, but healing. After 2 weeks my surgeon removed the staples & told me to let my surgical area 'air dry'. He told me that I could travel as long as I didn't drive on a 10 hour trip, if I stopped frequently to stretch. The DAY I was to leave my wound (8 inch cut) opened, a inch at a time. I was draining at a FAST rate. I called immediately & cancelled the trip.
Hi, As mentioned from the other post, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor or be referred to a nephrologist for proper diagnosis of nephroptosis. Direct clinical examination or physical examiantion and diagnostic tests like x-ray, cytoscopy or pyelogram may be indicated. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.
U may need meds in addition and could be y u r feeling worse as u r having an increase of acid... I had these issues for yrs, I also have a hiatal hernia, but since my surgery my reflux issues have diminished quite a bit...I am still very careful with my diet....
Took a swab from the knee to find it, but i had bleeding sinus, continous infection, severe ulceration, bleeding in the knee, swelling never went down after surgery. I had the stitches cleaned out and was fine after wards but had post op infection, but then another stitchure made its way out my knee by surfacing to the skin and making itself a hole to come out of, i wasnt allergic to the left over stitchure as it was different kind.
Two years ago I started a medication that "in rare cases lymphoma has occurred". Shortly after I started the med I started bruising easily an my hair fell out in clumps. I also got a weird chest pain that felt like a bubble was in the rear of my chest. I stopped the med, the bruising stopped and slowly my hair stopped falling out, but the chest pain only continued. My heart started skipping beats especially when I would bend over.
My daughter had surgery on Monday, on her leg., and my littliest grand daughter has an umbilical hernia surgery on Friday. so, we are getting kinda sick of Dr.'s. But, on the up, got to some gardening, and such, but today no breeze, and way to hot. I so agree with everyone, the summer if flying by for sure.
Two days later, we went to the emergency room because she was in severe pain (which she was complaining about immediately following the surgery also), she had high fever and had not eaten since her surgery.
I read this post in case my doctor tomorrow says "surgery for you!" - great advice. But I especially love the humor in it all. You are too funny and made me laugh this morning! Hope you are continuing to heal well and to Donna - glad you are continuing to recover nicely too. The butt wiping - priceless!!
