concussion

Avatar m tn Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern. Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar m tn now i have been diagnosed with post concussion syndrome.is it possible for this to happen and how long will it last.
Avatar m tn He experienced no loss of consciousness, but some dizziness, was dazed, and had a headache. About 3 hrs. post fall he had some temporary visual disturbances, seeing what he described as red flames and seeing pink when the colour he was looking at was grey. This was the point I took him to emerg. and he was dx with a concussion. His headache persisted for three days, on day 4 he had some visual disturbance, but no headache, we have him home, resting, no school, no sports.
Avatar f tn All the problems that go with a concussion. Anyways I have been to 3 neurologists and the last one finally said post concussion, I finally had my 3 year headache diagnosed as a chronic paroxysmal hemicrania and am on meds for it. Now I have sleep problems, I sleep to much. At least 4 naps a day, uncontrollable need for sleep. I went to a sleep study and have not heard the results yet. My question is, could this really be post concussion syndrome? does it last 3 years?
Avatar m tn I have suffered from 2 concussions. My first one happened tubing behind a boat in summer 2011. Fell off the tube and immediately felt dizzy, almost as if it took me a few seconds to regain myself. I had never felt that feeling before, but assumed the jolt my head took when it hit the water that I had suffered a concussion. I didn't begin to feel that "pressure headache" until a couple of hours later that afternoon.
Avatar f tn I had a metal iron shelf fall on my head at work 4 months ago, got a concussion and ended up with post traumatic concussion syndrome. He needs to go to the doctor!!!!! He needs to have a CT or MRI to check for headbleeding then he needs to see a neurologist and let them run test!!!!! It's so important. They told me if I hit my head again I'll have permanent damage.
Avatar f tn I had a mild Traumatic Brain Injury 1 year 8 months ago followed by Post Concussion Syndrome. I still have all the symptoms you mentioned and somethings got better. But the constant dizziness and fatigue disabled me at this point. You need to get a CT/MRI as Dr. Sharma suggested. Most likely it shows nothing but you never know. After my injury I pushed myself, went to work etc., and after 5 weeks it got extremely worse and haven't recovered still.
559187 tn?1330782856 Hi, I just wanted you to be aware that what you could be suffering from could be a concussion. I have had the lp headache and a concussion and I can tell you they are identical in the way they hurt. I do not know if you hit your head but that isn't even necessary. If you were jerked around at all your brain still can be rattled in your skull and that is all that is required to develop a concussion.
Avatar m tn Post concussion syndrome is a set of neuropsychological disorders including thinking, behavioral, and emotional disorders caused by traumatic brain injury or concussion. Post concussion syndrome can result from actual physical damage or injury to the brain and can become torn or sheared, crushed or displaced, can swell, bleed and shut down. You could use acetaminophen for headache, eat a light diet, light activity around the house, avoid alcohol etc.
Avatar m tn I spoke to my GP again and was given a leaflet on post concussion syndrome. I was also sent to the local hospital for a CT scan which showed no abnormalities. The symptoms have been very up and down. The dizziness and nausea have mostly passed and the main thing I am struggling with now is fatigue.
Avatar f tn She said all of his symptoms are from the post concussion syndrome. She said 1st thing is rest. My huband has sleep apnea so he must use the breathing machine every time he sleeps. If you are snoring you need to get a sleep study. We found out my husband was waking up 200 times a night. He was not getting true rest until he got the machine in March. 2nd, she gave him this med: AMANTADINE aka SYMMETREL. She said it works by improving brain function.
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.

Avatar f tn Friday morning, I was getting ready to take a shower. Due to my clumsy nature, I ran into the door frame on the left side (my left) of my head. It hurt for a few seconds, but afterward, I was fine and jumped into the shower. I didn't pass out, I wasn't dizzy, no nausea, etc. I've looked up symptoms of concussions quite a few times as I am a big worrier, and the only one I'm really experiencing is a headache, although it isn't severe.
Avatar m tn My daughter has hit her eye and we are worried about a concussion.
Avatar f tn So, I had a phone consult, my doctor sent me to the ER where they did a CT scan, no bleeding thank goodness, and diagnosed me with post concussion syndrome. After about a month and a half I went back to my doctor who told me he wanted me to see neurologist to make sure nothing else was going on. Throughout this time there has been a gradual, slow but steady improvement in the symptoms, but I am still having problems.
Avatar f tn Hi, The symptoms that your husband describes may be those of Post Concussion Syndrome. Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, I fell from an 18-wheeler onto pavement, hitting my left shoulder and then, my back and my neck and head 'snapped'....I had 11 stitches to close the wound in the back of my head. That was 3 years ago, and I still have dizzy spells, (if I turn suddenly) and occasional vomitting. Trouble sleeping if i end up on the back of my head.... A neurologist noted, the 'cT-scan is normal'....
Avatar f tn Light sensitivity, trouble focusing at near, difficulty concentrating, blurred vision are part of the post concussion syndrome. Not every person has every symptom and not every clears at the same rate. If you need glasses for distance generally you are myopic or nearsighted. That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
