Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? It is possible to have post-concussion syndrome for months and even years after the incident. This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from 2 concussions. My first one happened tubing behind a boat in summer 2011. Fell off the tube and immediately felt dizzy, almost as if it took me a few seconds to regain myself. I had never felt that feeling before, but assumed the jolt my head took when it hit the water that I had suffered a concussion. I didn't begin to feel that "pressure headache" until a couple of hours later that afternoon.
Avatar m tn I spoke to my GP again and was given a leaflet on post concussion syndrome. I was also sent to the local hospital for a CT scan which showed no abnormalities. The symptoms have been very up and down. The dizziness and nausea have mostly passed and the main thing I am struggling with now is fatigue.
Avatar f tn She said all of his symptoms are from the post concussion syndrome. She said 1st thing is rest. My huband has sleep apnea so he must use the breathing machine every time he sleeps. If you are snoring you need to get a sleep study. We found out my husband was waking up 200 times a night. He was not getting true rest until he got the machine in March. 2nd, she gave him this med: AMANTADINE aka SYMMETREL. She said it works by improving brain function.
Avatar f tn my symptoms are not getting better, meaning my speech, gait, dizziness ect. Memory is bad, and getting worse. I heard you can recover from post concussion syndrome and as time goes by you get better, but I keep getting worse. I dont even want to go out of the house anymore, I used to be a social butterfly. I hope you can at least lead me in some direction.
Avatar f tn So, I had a phone consult, my doctor sent me to the ER where they did a CT scan, no bleeding thank goodness, and diagnosed me with post concussion syndrome. After about a month and a half I went back to my doctor who told me he wanted me to see neurologist to make sure nothing else was going on. Throughout this time there has been a gradual, slow but steady improvement in the symptoms, but I am still having problems.
Avatar f tn Hi, The symptoms that your husband describes may be those of Post Concussion Syndrome. Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, I fell from an 18-wheeler onto pavement, hitting my left shoulder and then, my back and my neck and head 'snapped'....I had 11 stitches to close the wound in the back of my head. That was 3 years ago, and I still have dizzy spells, (if I turn suddenly) and occasional vomitting. Trouble sleeping if i end up on the back of my head.... A neurologist noted, the 'cT-scan is normal'....
Avatar f tn I had a metal iron shelf fall on my head at work 4 months ago, got a concussion and ended up with post traumatic concussion syndrome. He needs to go to the doctor!!!!! He needs to have a CT or MRI to check for headbleeding then he needs to see a neurologist and let them run test!!!!! It's so important. They told me if I hit my head again I'll have permanent damage.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion on Jan. 3rd and had just a bad headache,a little dizziness and a lump on the back of my head. Then a few days to a week the dizziness got alot worse, i became unsteady on my feet, developed ringing in my ears, nausea and the headache got worse. I've had an MRI and CT Scan and both were fine. Now I'm having a little problem with remembering names and other little things, plus I've noticed that loud noises and bright lights seem to bother me too.
Avatar f tn I have taken many MRIs (with and without contrast) after my mild Traumatic Brain Injury and diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Faced no problems with contrast. Very rarely I heard people cannot tolerate the contrast. Some labs do a Creatine (?) test before giving contrast. You can ask your lab about that. I have been suffering with Post Concussion Syndrome for 2+ years now. Headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue etc., and my symptoms got worse only after 5 weeks.
Avatar n tn Nausea is one of the common symptoms of Post Concussion Syndrome. I hit my head and had mild traumatic brain injury and then followed PCS. I have several other symptoms too (vertigo, fatigue, head pressure etc.,) and all related to the concussion. I too force myself to eat when I hit with nausea and it happens very often. I am surprised your Neurologist didn't suggest any drugs which in a way is good. Elavil (low dosage - 10 mg/day) helped some people with Nausea, sleep etc.
Avatar f tn i got hit in my head last week. i m suffering from severe headache. there's sharp pain at the back of my head. the pain towards my forehead too. what should i do?
Avatar n tn The main symptoms include headache, anxiety, depression, memory issues, and dizziness. There are no medications available specifically to deal with post concussion syndrome. Medications are given to take care of the symptoms like pain killers and antidepressants. The prognosis is excellent as most of the symptoms resolve completely over time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-concussion_syndrome Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I also hit the back of my head and had a severe concussion and brain contusion (bruising of brain) 1 year 10 months ago and still suffering with 24/7 dizziness, stuffy head, ringing in ears etc., When it comes to Post concussion syndrome it is really a collections of many many symptoms and confusing. You are only 3 weeks away so it may be too early to call it and most people recover within few weeks or months. I am the unlucky one.
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.
Avatar f tn Has anyone heard of post concussive syndrome happening even from a mild concussion?
Avatar f tn Hi, Your friend’s headache may be a symptom of Post concussion syndrome. Please ask your friend to take OTC pain killers for symptomatic relief. Symptoms of PCS usually subside on their own and may not require any treatment. A neurologist must be consulted if the symptoms persist. An MRI must be done to find out if there is any serious injury to the brain. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn Light sensitivity, trouble focusing at near, difficulty concentrating, blurred vision are part of the post concussion syndrome. Not every person has every symptom and not every clears at the same rate. If you need glasses for distance generally you are myopic or nearsighted. That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
