947226 tn?1245799962 i had went to a dr about this and he told me i had polymyalgia rheumatica. he gave me 20mg prednisone for about 2 weeks and my symptoms went away until now. i've just started doing research on this disease and i can not find anything about women my age having this. mainly in women 50 and older. i was wondering if anyone could help me if anyone has any information thats not on the internet. it does get better now with prednisone.
Avatar n tn Corticosteroids In most cases, the usual polymyalgia rheumatica treatment is a low, daily dose of an oral corticosteroid drug such as prednisone. Relief should be almost immediate. If you're not feeling better in a few days, it's likely you don't have polymyalgia rheumatica. In fact, your response to medication is one way your doctor may confirm the diagnosis. low dose prednisone my sister in law had left here so I took 5 mg.
Avatar n tn And after many doctors he was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. A close cousin to rheumatoid arthritis. At first they thought it was "frozen shoulder syndrome" not. After the shoulders then the groin area pains and back began. It got so bad until they gave him methotrexate and steroid medication. Shoulder pains can come from many sources like your cervical area of spine, etc. So I would suggest ruling out some form of arthritis or spine issues to start. Good luck to you.

Avatar f tn There is a light at the end of your poly tunnel! Normally it runs its course and goes away in about 5 years......normally. In answer to HVAC's question, basically its an inflammation that affects the hips and shoulders, usually hitting folks over 50 or 60, determined by blood tests, leaves them stiff, anemic, miserable basically! Welcome!
487531 tn?1217984348 ve had other symptoms as well such as, hard time walking, my legs feel very heavy at times, unable to bear weight, weakness in hands, blurred vision and feeling like I have something in my eyes and also a few times my eyes have acted seperately, one goes one way and the other goes the other way. And to top all of this, I've had problems with short term memory, to the point where I've just been at an intersection and once I go through, I ask myself if I even stopped.

Avatar f tn m on insulin plus pills, but my question really has to do with prednisone, 20/mg daily, which I have to take for Polymyalgia Rheumatica, an extremely painful muscle disease. Without the pred. I literally cannot walk. My sugar has been in the 300's & 400s no matter what I do - I've heard prednisone can wreak havoc with diabetes and I'd like to know if perhaps this is why my sugar level is so high? Thank you.
487531 tn?1217984348 I am not familiar with Chiari Frommell Syndrome, but I have heard of Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I believe it is an autoimmune disorder that primarily attacks the muscles? I have Behcet's Syndrome or Reiter's Syndrome, my doctors also can't be sure. With all these things I believe immune suppressants can be used to control flares.
Avatar n tn What was your cortisol level ?
Avatar f tn 1) A low dose, from 1 to 3 mg can do wonders for you if you have polymyalgia rheumatica [PR], or perhaps some other pain problem related to the auto-immune problem that causes PR and giant cell ateritis. 2) If Dr does not give it to you, you will have a feeling like the flus for a bit, then return to your previous problems. 3) Withdrawal: prednisone flue for a week or two. Muscle aches and flu feeling, but no infection.

Avatar n tn Even though it seems to help to some degree it also is putting weight on like crazy. I also have pulmanary problems and of course again more prednisone, is there anything else that I could take instead?
505094 tn?1240317431 Tomorrow morning I am going in for a double biopsy to see if I have Giant Cell Arteritis. I already have Polymyalgia Rheumatica and possibly Fibromyalgia...on top of MS. I've been taking Progesterone 40mg for 2 weeks and have stepped down to 30mg. My arms are shaking a lot, (they shook before, but not like this).

1586189 tn?1297099435 I have had Polymyalgia Rheumatica for 1 1/2 yrs. a few months ago I had several bad headaches and my eye sight deteriorated. An eye exam showed a loss of 2??. I asked if it could be GCA and he said, no your eyes look fine. Just not sure why your sight was worse. In the last two weeks I have had 4 days of bad headaches. Across the front of my head, down behind the eye and my teeth or gums ache.
Avatar n tn hi doctor, I went to the doctor today yesterday because I had terrible pain in my hips and lower back. the doctor told me that I may either have polymyalgia rheumatica or anklosing spondilitis. I have had arthritis in my fingers for several years and would like to know whether I can treat these new types of arthritis with my current medication. I have been taking ansaid, thanks.
Avatar f tn One year ago had Shingles and had weakness and pain. I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Eye problems and head pain. Giant course of steroids that sent me to the hospital at x-mas. My lungs filled with fluid. I had a temporal artery biopsy. I had a incident of loss of vision in Feb.Had another biopsy in July because the steroids might have altered the results. Both biopsys negative for Giant Cell Arteritis.
